Excerpt: Stanley Kubrick (July 26, 1928 March 7, 1999) was an American film director, writer, producer, and photographer, who lived in England during most of the last four decades of his career. Kubrick was noted for the scrupulous care with which he chose his subjects, his slow method of working, the variety of genres he worked in, his technical perfectionism and his reclusiveness about his films and personal life. He worked far beyond the confines of the Hollywood system, maintaining almost complete artistic control and making movies according to the whims and time constraints of no one but himself, but with the rare advantage of big-studio financial support for all his endeavors. Oscar nominated on several occasions as screenwriter and director, his only personal win was for the special effects in 2001: A Space Odyssey. Kubrick is widely acknowledged as one of the most accomplished, innovative and influential filmmakers in the history of cinema. He directed a number of highly acclaimed and often controversial films that have often been perceived as a reflection of his obsessive and ...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=26683 ... Read more

Product Description
Man's control over the machines he has created is absolute. He has manipulated his natural environment, conquered the problems of interplanetary travel, and is ready for what comes next. In the first year of the twenty-first century, 2001, you are commander of Discovery, a spacecraft traveling at a hundred thousand miles an hour. Your destination is a planet on the farthest edge of the Solar System. Your companions are a fellow navigator, three deep-freeze hibernauts, and Hal, a chatty computer who ceaselessly guides your course and your life. The mission you undertake through the abyss of space has been set off by a shrieking slab found within the Moon's crater Clavius. There is no possibility that this strange monolith is a natural formation. It is a deliberately buried calling card, left by an alien Intelligence millions of years ago. And you must find it, wherever, whatever, It is. ... Read more
