Love the man, love the book. The book is a wonderful reflection of how hard SRK works for his place amongst the gods. Wonderful insights into his privaate world with questions begging to be answered. And glorious pics.

Delicious!
This a big, big, BIG book.It's a somewhat extravagant treat, granted, but oh so worth it!Beautifully put together, excellent photographs, fascinating subject.Just one warning to non-Hindi speakers:Indians have the delightful habit of flowing in and out of several languages at once.It's a charming trait, actually, and it works well if you happen to be fluent in the two languages that are being used in the same sentence. This works well for the Indian market, of course, and the NRI market, probably.But it's not so great for the NII market (the Non-Indian Indian market)that a growing number of Europeans and Americans belong to.I am so fond of SRK films that I've started learning Hindi.But the pitiful few words I've managed to learn do not begin to help me understand some of the many Hinglish phrases contained in this book.Still and all, if you're a Khan fan, this book is a must.

Shah Rukh Khan- Coffee table book
I purchased this as an anniversary gift for a friend who is a huge SRK fan. I was very pleased with the service- I did expedited service and the book arrived in 2 days as I expected. It is a big thick coffee table style book with never before seen pictures of SRK and his family and interesting information. I would rate it 5 stars, if it were not for the price. At about $60 including shipping, I thought the price is a bit steep, although SRK fans might find it worth every cent!

A must-have book for all Shahrukh Khan fans.

The kind which makes you wonder if something like that had really happened in the actor's life. Thankfully, Mushtaq extracts quite some trivia out of the actor's life. So you get to know how Shah Rukh was offered the role of Anil Kapoor's car driver in 1942 - A Love Story, which he rejected (of course!). Eventually Raghuvir Yadav did that role. Or how Shah Rukh completely surrendered to the director's vision and withdrew himself when he couldn't follow the trajectory of Subhash Ghai's Pardes. It's a different matter though that Shah Rukh was appreciated for his performance in the film but so was he in Karan Arjun too, which by the way he dared not watch over the years because he didn't connect with the role.

There are number of such little instances that make 'Shah Rukh Can' an interesting read. But is it just about the actor and the trivia around his life? Not at all. Doing the Khan-Khan
The author (Mushtaq Sheikh) had written a coffee-table book called Still Reading Khan, and in a original plagiarization of self, has released this book (Shah Rukh Can) with all the same text and without most of the pictures found in the expensive version. I liked this book as (1) I didn't buy the coffee table book, (2) I am a fan of Shah Rukh's and (3) it's a quick, light read with some nice stories about SRK's early days. The most irritating parts of the book are when Sheikh tries to provide insight on cinematic trends or in any way deviates from the story of his protagonist. Guess the moral is .. A bit retro but not too bad
This was made in 1997 with an SRK still with his puppy fat. A lot of the feel of the movie is more the Hollywood romances of the 1960s than a movie of the 90s.
However SRK is always good (and better in the second half than the first) and there is good chemistry between him and the girl (Juhi Chawla).
I was tossing up about holding onto this as it feels a bit corny and dated but it does have a certain something given all those qualifications.

Hmm. The girl? Or the office?
Undoubtedly there are excellent, vastly entertaining Indian films out there (Black (Bonus - Free Star Dust Awards 2004 DVD), Main Hoon Na, Lagaan - Once Upon a Time in India, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Kuch Naa Kaho (2 Disc Set), to name just a few). But a very large percentage of Bollywood cinema requires from the audience - especially the Western audience - a grain of salt (maybe two grains of salt), a certain mindset, and lowered expectations. So many films come out of Bollywood that the law of averages dictates that a lot of them can't be quality stuff. And Bollywood is never too shy about borrowing plots and premises from Hollywood. This time around plot and premise ideas are lifted from the 1960 Jack Lemmon classic The Apartment and from 1993's For Love Or Money which starred Michael J. Fox and Gabrielle Anwar. YES BOSS, released in 1997, stars Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, although he gets second billing to Aditya Pancholi, who plays the bad guy.

Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) dreams of having his own advertising agency, a dream he believes can be realized thru the influence and financing of his boss Sidharth (Aditya Pancholi). Accordingly, he toadies up to the man, playing Sidharth's willing right hand man. But what happens when his philandering boss sets his sight on a girl Rahul himself fancies? Seema (Juhi Chawla) is a nice, beautiful middle-class girl who toils as a model and keeps very material goals in mind. She confesses to Rahul that if she herself can't achieve her goals, then she'll marry someone who can get them for her. In finessing things so that Sidharth gets close to Seema, Rahul has to face up to his own feelings, and eventually has to make a choice. The girl? Or the office?

Two and a half stars for this picture. YES BOSS is 2 hours and 37 minutes of corny film-making, but, if you're a Shah Rukh Khan fanatic, then it makes for decent watching. I didn't mind it. But if you don't know who Shah Rukh Khan is or if you haven't seen a Bollywood flick before, then you might want to wait on this one. The positives are that actress Juhi Chawla is lovely and does invite interest and sympathy and Shah Rukh Khan ultimately salvages his smarmy role. No, he's not as charismatic as Jack Lemmon or Michael J. Fox, but there's an invested anticipation as we await Rahul finally standing up against the domineering Sidharth. But, before he does, Rahul engages in so much unabashed fawning that I wanted to slap him. Meanwhile, Aditya Pancholi plays his reprehensible role with ease. His character just coldly keeps on dangling that ad agency carrot at Rahul. Pancholi is good to hiss at.

Sometimes I'm in the mood for classy Ivory Merchant stuff and sometimes I hanker for cheese. Overall, I found YES BOSS to be a slice of cheesy heaven. "Cheesy heaven," I call it, somewhat in appreciation, but I'm a Bollywood veteran by now and I know what I'm walking into. Inept acting (Johnny Lever continues to get on my last nerve), one-note characters, a plot drowning in soap opera suds, and tedious musical numbers. Yup, they're all here. But, as I've said, I'm used to the cheese, was ready for it and even had fun with it. But I don't really blame others for rolling their eyes at the blatant hokeyness of it all. And, ultimately, I can't really recommend YES BOSS. When Rahul and Seema finally declare their love for each other (in the middle of a fistfight with the villains, no less), this scene is fraught with so much cheese that I started laying out mouse traps.

First Bollywood movie I watched
This was a very good movie. I wasn't sure if I would like it at first because it's very long and a little cheesy... but once I got into the story and the characters I really enjoyed it. It's very comical and some of the songs are very entertaining.

Favorite Bollywood movie!
Like my title says, it's my favorite Bollywood movie, EVER! I just HAD to have it when I first watched it! The copy I purchased is in excellent condition. I expect nothing less from this comnpany, and they've never let me down.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
Superb.. More than I expected.. arrival was quick... now I remember why I wanted this movie. SRK, Rani and Kajol are excellent together.. KKKG was another trio favorite.. I would have liked to see him with Rani, though. They are so cute together. Paheli is my all time favorite. I need to order another because this one is starting to stall, I have played it so much.
I think the second half of KKHH is what captivates me. It is so heartwarming and funny at the same time. Must see in my book..

You don't have to be indian to love Bollywood!
I an not indian but I love Bollywood movies and to me, this is the best movie I have ever seen! This was the first movie and the first time I ever saw Shahrukh Khan and fell instantly in love! He is so funny, charming and when called for brilliantly serious and dramatic. This movie won my heart with its story and music. I really love just about every song in the movie; especially the title song. I just had to buy my own copy I love this movie so much and I will probably watch it every week! lol!. I am so glad that the availability of these movies are increasing to feed my addiction and to Shahrukh Khan! This is a must see movie, you have got to get it! I can't wait to see Shah in "My name is Khan" when it comes out. I have seen the trailer online (Google it)and it is very good!

Fun Bollywood

Shahrukh makes a handsome rich man
This movie was fun to watch and definitely had it's funny moments. However, Shahrukh Khan doesn't make an appearance until later on in the movie but when he does appear he makes quite an entrance- looking very handsome and says a very witty remark. It does have a different feel to it than the other bollywood movie I have seen- I can't quite explain it but nevertheless I loved this movie

Not worth a watch.. The dumbest thing the producers did was not branding it as a Shah Rukh film...

Fun, fun, fun
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.I should be upfront and say that I usually like SRK movies; however, he does not have a huge part this time.Nevertheless, the other characters proved to be memorable and the actors gave good performances.The story is not new (rich boy forced to marry to keep his millions, bride left alone after the wedding); however, Dulha Mil Gaya adds some twists and characters that make this movie very entertaining.Some of the lines have stayed with me and I still laugh when I remember them.If you take the time to see this film, I think you will be entertained. ... The first part of the book explores and documents the conditions under which the transfer of rural water supply schemes was sustainable and the conditions under which the transfer proved to be a failure. A bit dated but solid & well-acted
This is about a poor, high principled, recent engineering graduate from Darjeeling, called Raj (Shahrukh Khan), who moves to Bombay to become rich and successful. He meets the love of his life (Juhi Chalwa) and starts making his way. Forces start opposing his rise and he is forced to look at whether he can maintain his principles in the realities of Bombay's business world.
From 1992 it is looking a little dated. The songs and dances are fine but none particularly stand out. However all the acting is solid and SRK & Juhi are in the early stages of the great paring they continued with in other movies. There is good chemistry and they both are very watchable. SRK plays it straight and does both the conflicted aspirant and person of principles very well - as he later did in many other movies too!
Elsewhere on the Net it tends to score above average and that's where I'd put it too.
This is decent entertaining Bollywood and worth a watch.
