February 17, 1982) wasan American actor, director and acting teacher.Hecofounded, with director Harold Clurman, the Group Theatrein 1931, which was hailed as "America's first truetheatrical collective".In 1951, he became director of thenon-profit Actors Studio, in New York City, considered "thenation's most prestigious acting school".
