Pure faith

Don't waste your money!
Illiterate, uninformed, disorganized, free-flowing rant: obviously a weekend aggregation of Internet searches. Reads like a 5th grade class project -- and even in that case would merit no more than a D+. Of the book's 111 (not 120) pages, 24 are blank for the reader's "notes". Remaining pages filled with pictures, illustrations, and meaningless graphics in an attempt to disguise an amazing lack of content. Lists of long URLs and many sections of downloaded quotes. No index or table of contents. It does prove a point though: ANY book can be published!

Worth the investment
My daughter is autistic and it's not so much the math that confused her as the instructions by her teacher. She found the instruction/guides helpful and was better able to understand how to work through the problems.

ACT helps in GED prep to
My son is taking the ACT test soon but I got him this book to help with his GED. He was weak in math and the definitions in the book alone was worth it. It helped him to achieve a 600 on his GED. Great Book

Highly recommended for ACT Math review
I scanned through the ACT review math books before deciding to purchase this one.I am glad I did.This book provides a full range of the math problems on the ACT test and also provides full explanations of the answers if you come across a problem you just can't figure out.I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is planning on taking the ACT test.

Love this book but a bit easy
I think this is a great book for ACT math prep.It has 5 practice tests that all seem well written.It breaks down the math section into major topics (pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trig, etc), then covers specific types of problems within each major topic.There are mini-tests over each category too, which I think is really helpful.I've pretty much used the book cover to cover.I have found 2 errors though and it doesn't cover every math topic you need to know for the test.

March 2010 update: I now think this book is a little too easy, especially for those looking for a top score (say, 30 and up).I still think it's an ideal book for those looking for scores in the mid to maybe upper twenties (or below) though.The questions aren't quite as hard as those in the recent official ACT preparation booklets, so I think the scaled scores from here would be a little inflated.

Wonderful!
I purchased this book because math is my weakest subject on the act. I was scoring a 16 on the act test, I need a 20 for the promise scholarship in WV, it pays for your tuition. I just read some of the tips, and nothing else and it raised my score 1 point to a 17.Finally this summer I have used this book almost weekly, to get ready for the ACT test in September.

When I took the first diagnostic exam in the book it said an 16, I am on my second test and I received a 20! i am so excited because there is 3 mores tests to go and I think I will be able to raise it to maybe a 22, that way I feel like I can get at lest a 20 on the real test. In September I will tell you how it went.

Not only did I use it to practice fort the ACT but I also used it to practice for the COMPASS Math Test, I started with a 17 on the COMPASS, and raised it to a 44, I no longer would have to take a non credited math class in college. In my high school I need a 49 on the COMPASS test to taker College Algebra, I think with a little more practice I will get it before school starts.

Many repetitive and simple expressions.
This book contains a lot of expressions, indeed. Some of which are more common than others. Although, beware that unless your American English is very basic, a lot of these expressions you are likely to already be familiar with. Many expressions are also almost identical, with just a different word order, or one or two words replaced. To give an example, the book gives you the following three suggestions (among others) to express that you feel cool or cold: "Turn on the heat", "Turn up the heat", "Turn the heat up".

With that in mind, I would still say the book is worth its price. I just think that the author could have left out a lot of variations of the expressions and saved some pages.

extremely helpful dictionary
This is an extremely useful dictionary for an English as Second Language learner like me that has okay vocabulary and speaking ability but often doesn't know exactly how to express myself under some contexts.The dictionary cover mundane topics like "placing a telephone order for pizza", but I don't see that as drawbacks.Quite on the contrary, the book becomes so useful right because the topics and approriate expressions are very handy and can be applied everyday!

i found this book honestly not very useful, i mean, the context, and the purpose of this book is not clear, if they were trying to teach us how to speak in some basic places, they had to teach by writing a vocabulary list for each situation, not sentences, you can't apply them everytime in a daily life, but some works, i'm okay with that,but generally i perefer a vocabulary builder for that,...

Good tool for increasing your spoken expressions!
I found this book very useful for someone who wants to increase his conversational skills in a short period. You can find lots of expressions organized by topic. It is helpful in the sense that there are words with which you were acquainted at some point, and this book serves to refresh your memory of some forgotten expressions. It's just like entering data to your brain. This book is not intended to entertain you; it is rather in the form of a dictionary, and reading a dictionary is no fun. But if your ultimate goal is to broaden your expressions, this book is an excellent tool.

If you have the basic knowledge of English grammar and vocabulary, this book is definitely for you. The first complex phrase that I dared to speak in front of the native English speaker was from this book. The questions that I asked frequently in the public were from this book. The topics that we talked a lot were also from this book. The back of the book says the code is on the web. I looked and it wasn't there. I called MH and after 30 cell phone minutes got someone who said they would get back to me. I followed up with an email on 10/16/08 and still have not received a response.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Save yourself a lot of wasted time and simply avoid this book... I bought it at a half-priced book store for some extra practice. The math is more simplistic than that of the actual ACT, although anyone who has taken Trig in high school should do fine on math.I bought this primarily for the English review tests.I took several and found myself missing around 10-15 on each test. Now don't get the wrong idea, I'm not dumb. This book is awful. I had a teacher who used to do ACT prep look over my tests, and he openly admitted that the book was wrong.I then got an official ACT practice test from my guidance office, and it was a completely different story. I didn't miss any on the English section. Math was slightly more challenging (it took me more than 25 minutes to finish it). The reading and science are extremely easy sections, but still take practice tests for them, so you can learn how to pace yourself. If you have unlimited time, you could easily get a 36... Please, please, please do not make the same mistake I did and waste valuable time with this book.Get the official ACT Prep book, so you can get a real feel for the test. You will do fine once you get a handle on the structure. The biggest thing is confidence, and this book gives you both a false sense of confidence, and in some cases a false sense of insecurity.I got a 36, so if you are distraught over a poor performance on these tests, you shouldn't be.Go for the real thing, save yourself from the stress.

WORST BOOK!!! IT WILL MISLEAD YOU!!!!
Please do not waste your time with this book. I am a senior who is going through some stressful times with appying to colleges, however my ACT score isn't really up to par. I bought this book wanting more practice. After purchasing it and doing as many as five whole ACT practices tests from it, I developed a sense of confidence. I thought the real ACT would be a cinch, however it's nothing like the level of difficulty as the ones in this book. Please do not buy it. I've wasted enough time with it. It has gotten too many errors with the answer key, questions, etc. Buy Kapaln's or other books from the other companies. STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE!!! PLEASE!!!

Not the real thing
I'm a student, as of right now going into my senior year of high school. I've taken the ACT a few times and received a good score, but the scholarship I want for the school that I'm going to requires a score a single point higher than my current best.

To practice and make sure I got the ACT score I needed, I acquired 3 different books, and this was one of them. And I'd have to say, this is definitely the least helpful of those three.

Don't let the claim "as close as you can get to the real thing" fool you. As someone who has seen multiple real ACT tests, I can tell you the feel is completely different, especially the English sections.

Furthermore, there are multiple glaring errors, including grammatical errors in the questions and passages ("J. Dark matter has not effect at all...") as well as in the answer keys. In the first test, an explanation for a question told that using "it's" was incorrect for a possessive pronoun, right underneath bold letters declaring the correct letter choice was the one corresponding to what it had just explained as wrong.

And last, but not least, this book lacks entirely a subscoring key. The real ACT, as well as practice tests in better books, divide questions based on the skills they measure and give a score out of 18 (except the science test). Being able to get your subscores give you a more accurate picture of how well you do and where you need to improve. This book, however, simply tells you to divide your raw score by the number of questions, multiply by 36 and add or subtract a correction factor. This is not helpful in the least.

As advertised, this book does in fact have 10 tests that can be used for practice, but if you've already taken the test and you're really serious about improving your score, this is not the way to go.

Great Investment
I bought this for my daughter who is entering 12 th grade.She made what she wantedthe FIRST time she took the ACT.Now she can get the scholarship she wanted!

A waste of time...
I bought this book in order to practice for the ACT, since I found no other books whatsoever that offer that many whole tests. The problem is that the level of the tests in McGraw-Hill's is way below the level of the real ACT. I also practiced using Barron's ACT book and Kaplan's ACT computer program, both had very challenging practice tests, some even harder than the real ACT. If you are abundant in time and want to practice more, get the book, because in any case it's more practice. Otherwise, it's just a waste of time and money; the questions are way too easy than the real thing, and it might misguide you. ... Read more

I am a medical student who is getting his first taste of Dermatology. Since our notes do not include color photographs, I decided to buy a book. At first, I was tempted by color atlases but then I found this book. Notonly does it contain color photos, but each chapter is dedicated to aspecific problem (e.g. warts) and covers such issues as treatment andprognosis.
