Il est apparu dans plus de cent films et a été nommé quatre fois aux Golden Globe Awards. Il est principalement connu pour son rôle dans la série Kung Fu, diffusée dans les années 1970, et dans Kill Bill de Quentin Tarantino qui lui a fait retrouver le succès à la fin de sa carrière. Il y tient le rôle de Bill, l'antithèse du héros qu'il campait dans Kung Fu. David Carradine est le fils de l'acteur John Carradine et le demi-frère des acteurs Keith Carradine et Robert Carradine.
