5-0 out of 5 stars Passchedaele (Paperback)
This story is spellbinding. The movie combined with the book about fictional characters whose lives revolved around the World War I battle at Passcheondaele is a very compelling epic.I watched the movie then picked up the book and read it cover to cover.

3-0 out of 5 stars This book was NOT written by Paul Gross, though based on his screenplay
I feel duped, not by Amazon, but by the publishers of this book, Harper Collins. I bought it primarily because I wanted to read some of Paul Gross' writing, curious about his writing style. But Paul Gross confirmed in a recent interview that not only had he NOT written the book, but that he had "...very little to do with it". Which is why there are differences from the screenplay and movie, including the ending, again, not authorized by Gross, but purely invented by whoever wrote the thing. I don't know who the author of the novel is because the publishers do not mention them anywhere and in fact presentGross as the sole author of the book, which I find to be extremely deceitful and irritating.

5-0 out of 5 stars I really enjoyed this book!
Okay, I feel the other reviewers have said it all when it comes to this book, but I have to tell you I enjoyed the book, and hope to see the film soon.I guess we Americans will have to wait for the DVD.

I think english speaking people tend to forget thier country were not the only ones involved in both world wars, and this is a nice peak in to a Canadian solder's view.

Read the book, you won't be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Canadian (love) story in the middle of WW1
This is not great literature, if that's what you are looking for go read Tolstoy. However, if you want a story that makes you laugh and cry and really care about the characters, this is it. You are immediately pulled into the lives of these characters, it's what keeps you reading and in the end breaks your heart. I'm sure this will be a great story up on the big screen. Unfortunately, it appears that those of us who live in the U.S. will have to wait for it to show up on DVD. ... Read more

Product Description
With the emergence of "cultural studies" and the blurring of once-clear academic boundaries, scholars are turning to subjects far outside their traditional disciplines and areas of expertise. In this book, the authors raise serious questions about the growing criticism of science by humanists and social scientists on the "academic left.". ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a good book but badly written
I have to say that this book is very well researched, argued and presents a very powerful argument against post-modernism in all its different forms.

The one big problem I found was the way the book was written. It seems the authors either challenged themselves or have a talent for using very archaic or rare words and constructing incredibly complex sentences. The text is still understandable, although barely in places. It is a great shame because the authors could have presented an even stronger argument had they used simple and minimalistic english.

I gave the book 5 starts only because of the incredible depth of the research and argument.I feel that many readers would stop reading the book after the first paragraph and miss out lots of important information.

2-0 out of 5 stars rigor needed
Be warned: this is a polemic. It is an all-out play-dirty assault. It is no journalistic undercover. It is not a informative warning to the community. It is an attack.Admittedly, it is has a worthy target and there will be plenty of people who want to hear its attacks (and a dirty fight is always an attention getter) but to attack a group for using poor rhetoric by using poor rhetoric is undercutting your own objective.

The book does not try to hide that it is an attack. It claims on pg. 13 that "Nothing less will get attention." Perhaps that was true in 1994, but now it seems like angry men shouting.

The book waits 25 pages to define science as "internal logical consistency and empirical verification".It never clarifies that.It never nails down what its opposition is saying and use the definition to show that the opposition does not know/accept/understand science.

The book does not acknowledge that scientific reasoning uses rhetoric and logic and that those might fall under the realm of the humanities. The book cites the sociologist Kuhn in a footnote but does not accept that (1) science is done by a community which can be studied by sociologists and (2) that Kuhn saw that scientists did not always follow their own claimed "scientific method".

This is bad rhetoric attacking bad rhetoric.A dirty fight is always a spectacle and those who are already won over might get fired up by this book. But it certainly won't convince any of those on the other side.(Sokal's brilliant stunt did more for attention and skewering the opposition with less work.)

Perhaps, all of this means that there is a good place for a book that _is_ well structured, rigorous, and convincing. I'm a scientist and I think science has been one of the best boons to humanity these last 300 years. However, this book is not a service to science.Or, if it was a service in 1994, it strongly needs to be replaced by a more solid case for its argument.

4-0 out of 5 stars Many valid points. Could use a bit more work.
The bad points, first:

1. For whom was thisbook written? There was lots of strange, inaccessible vocabulary throughout the text that made this suspiciously like many other texts that a person might encounter in a Philosophy class in undergraduate. (Think back to all those classes that you sat through where you thought that you might perish of boredom before the 50 minutes was up.) There are other books that have dealt with pseudoscience in a much more engaging manner (notably the Robert Park book, "Voodoo Science"). If the point was the let people know about the fraud that characterizes American academia, why not write the book in a way more accessible to the hoi polloi?

2. The tone of this book was extremely bitter/ acerbic/ angry. I know that it is hard to be patient with people that are uttering nonsense with seeming profundity. But it is hard to separate a point about the seriousness of someone's scholarship from the bitter, ranting tone of this book.

3. I tend to think that this book could have been a lighter read if fewer examples of academic foolishness were chosen and dealt with at slightly greater length. To be sure, there is NO SHORTAGE of topics that could have been chosen, and I'm sure that it was the authors' first instinct to try to include them all. But the book suffered as a result.

Good points:

1. It was so refreshing to hear that, yes, the emperor has no clothes. The same 3 credit hours of tuition will buy a course in engineering as will buy a course in "Marxist Interpretation of Feminist Literature." It is amazing that more people don't know that taxpayer dollars and federal subsidies are funding money that could better be spent on research into preventing rectal cancer.

2. There were some very clever uses of words. One example is the comparison of Marxism to a priesthood (with which I'd agree). Another was the comparison of intellectuals to "philosopher-kings" a la Plato.

3. The authors were very perceptive in recongnizing that most intellectuals seek INFLUENCE more than anything else. Helping the oppressed or having more noble motives is merely a pretext.

All in all, worth purchasing second hand on Amazon.com. A good week of evening readings.

4-0 out of 5 stars why academics can't think
A thorough examination of the results of applying a confused literary philosophy to science. Covers postmodernism, feminism, radical environmentalism, multiculturalism and AIDS activism -- each of these areas has tremendous strengths, but the deconstructionist approach (aka political correctness) often leads to absurd positions.None of these discussions can be dismissed with sound bites, and this book is heavy going in places, but essential for anyone trying to work or think within modern science and academia.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still relevant after all these years...
Academic fads have a startlingly brief lifespan:Last year's new thing is supplanted by this year's new thing, which promises to transgress all previous boundaries and explode the oppressive partiarchal paradigms that are crushing the unprivileged.Everything that lies under the vague umbrella of "postmodernism" is one of those this-year's-new-things.But most of those academic fads didn't really go away; that's why, even though it was published in 1998, this is an important and still-relevant book.

Gross and Levitt examine and systematically demolish a number of postmodernism's anti-science subspecies. In a way, this amounts to no more than swatting at a swarm of annoying academic insects; Gross and Levitt are genuine scientists, so, unlike the academic postmodernists, they are good at analyzing data and presenting logical arguments. And that's what they do, devastatingly and humorously. It seems unlikely that a densely footnoted and referenced academic study could be laugh-out-loud funny, but this book is.

However, there's something important here, too. That is that the academic postmodernists' attacks on science have a cumulative harmful effect of deflecting young people away from real science, confusing the scientifically illiterate public about scientific and technological principles and policies, and, most dangerously of all, creating the impression that science is just one of several possible "ways of knowing," all of which are equally valid.

No, they're not.The plain fact is that science works; it accurately describes physical reality.Diverting intellectual effort and research money to the study of alternative "ways of knowing" is wasteful and academically bankrupt.

Read this book. It's still relevant and important. And it's very, very funny. ... Read more

Product Description
The Great Doubt is is a book about letting go - surrendering our manic scraping for more knowledge, more ideas about right and wrong, and more tools by which we can judge ourselves and others.Drawing from biblical traditions, Buddhism, Taoism, 12-step recovery wisdom, New Age/New Thought teachings, and the author's experience in the academic study of religion, it offers a spirituality aimed toward becoming authentically human. It asserts that alternative ways of knowing - namely, love and meditative awareness - are necessary to help individuals and communities transcend the limiting and limited capacities of their thinking minds. These ways of knowing are essential aspects of walking a pathway not based on dogmatism, rigidity, or static ideas of truth - one that is instead open to change, questioning, and continual transformation. The Great Doubt is more than just a book; it is a journey.Throughout, it not only posits ideas ("normal" book writing), but also intersperses personal reflections on the writing process itself. These reflections allow the reader to journey with the author as a real human being engaged in real human experiences - hope, fear, doubt, uncertainty. The goal of these reflections is to embody something of the spiritual path to which the book invites its readers - a path of authenticity, uncertainty, love, and surrender. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars There is no doubt in my mind that this is one of the most profitable reads I have EVER encountered
This book is perfect for the already-spiritually-inclined with either postmodern, integrationist, or interfaithing tendencies.

This is one of the most honest and authentic books I have had the utmost pleasure of not only reading, but being able to completely immerse myself in and identify with.

Living in such a religiously pluralistic culture in which we live here in Amercia, it is my hope that other works such as this will make their way into the hands of those seeking for much deeper meaning in their lives apart from unloving, dogmatic and authoritarian religion.

The author shares his views with such raw honesty and humility. His aim is not to coerce anyone into his way of viewing matters of ultimate concern, but to offer up hope, especially to those who have found themselves struggling within their own religious communities demanding uniformity, which causes the individual seeker for Reality to lose sight of ever discovering their true Self at the expense of institutionalized, conventional and shallow teaching. If you are interested in discovering your own truth, and meeting with the G-d (I use "G-d", because, afterall, God cannot be named with any real sense of certainty) that can only be discovered through brutal honesty with one's True Self, others, and Ultimate Reality. This author can set you on your own course of the discovery of Divine Love without the all-too-common three-easy-steps approach.

I think that this book will appeal especially to the already-agnostically-inclined, people who find themselves asking more questions than they could ever find the answers to--the kind that aren't afraid to say "I just don't know for sure."It could also deliver some much-needed epistemological integrity to all those inside and outside of religion who not only think they have everything figured out, but then burden others with their attending expectations predicated upon their very narrow ways of perceiving reality.

Jonathan Gross speaks of the "pathless path" which all serious spiritual sojourners can ponder, and begin to discover the many ways in which G-d can be realized and experienced in the most authentic and accessible of ways. He brings into view the whole concept/reality of the importance of Oneness as a Process thinker who is not afraid to incorporate the beneficial teachings of other religions and philosophies of life.

I am a God-experiencer who attends an inclusive evangelical church seeking to open its arms to the whole of humanity, where Love is the predominant center by which God (as understood primarily through Jesus Christ--it is an evangelical church, afterall), andupon finishing reading Gross's book, I'm ready to jump right back into it as soon as I finish writing this "review."Really, what I am writing is simply a kind of praise report believing that a wide range of people can be benefited immensely by this book's contents. I have already begun to recommend it to many of my friends, because doing so is one of the best ways I can think of to show my love and appreciation to them.

Lasty, this is not a book to breeze through. Practically every sentence demands that it be read and then pondered over with whatever time and concentration the reader finds to be necessary. A true gold mine of a book this is for me. If you should decide to purchase this book, ready yourself for the kind of personal transformation that many of us secretly have longed for, but have, unfortunately, found lacking to a degree we never thought possible. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Preaching Paul
The author is sympathetic and understanding toward those who dislike the apostle Paul and see no need to preach his letters. She hears the voices of those who contend that Paul's letters simply need to be read rather than preached. She also affirms that there are passages in Paul that may offend modern sensibilities.

Yet she feels that even Paul's letters are God's word to us, and that they are witnesses to Jesus Christ (sounds like Karl Barth). She points out that many preachers have either ignored Paul, or they have preached topical sermons based on one word he says, or they have used select verses out of Paul to support a main point they are making from another non-Pauline passage.

The author says that this is unacceptable. She lays down a few ground rules. She states that we cannot know the mind of Paul and that exegesis of his letters will only rule out false interpretations rather than reveal to us the correct interpretation (that was weird to me).

She feels that there are multiple possible meanings to Paul's letters (I disagree, i would say that there are multiple applications to the single main point of the passage.

The author (Nancy Lamers Gross) goes on to suggest that homiletics should be the last stage of our interpreting process, and that we should reflect on the passage (but she says that our goal is not to preach the text expositionally but to preach the gospel.

She gives four or five of her own sample sermons. I felt that her reflections on Pauline texts would have been better if she had reflected first on the main point of the book she was preaching from, and if she had reflected on this book's place within the canon of scripture. Once you grasp the overall message of Colossians, for example, you are in a better position to interpret a particular text in Colossians. And once you understand the main subject of the Bible (God's plan to redeem the world through Christ), you are in a better position to understand Colossians within this matrix.

But I was helped by this book and impressed with the author's desire to read commentaries and talk with other pastors as part of her sermon preparation. ... Read more

Product Description
Sand Castles: a collection of writings by Aline Dorothy Gross, who died of cancer, at age 24, in 1980. At that time she was a graduate student in biochemistry at Cornell. It includes diary entries, letters, reflections on contemporaries and culture, and poetry. Beginning at age 14, she was treated for Hodgkin's disease, eventually with success; but in the end she died of treatment-induced cancer. Despite the catastrophe, she managed to become an honor student at Yale, a promising biochemist, an athlete, and a writer of growing sophistication and power. These selections, assembled by her father, tell the story-primarily in her own eloquent words. It transcends the fate of one young woman: this story is about facing calamity with courage, wit, self-respect, and intelligence. ... Read more

In 1979, a movie was released that was to capture the imagination of the world, and become a science fiction classic — Alien. 25 years later, the Alien franchise is stronger than ever!

The Book of Alien is the definitive companion to the movie, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2004. Taking you right behind the scenes of the production, there are interviews with the key people involved, including legendary designer HR Giger and director Ridley Scott. Lavishly illustrated with scores of stunning design paintings, production art and film stills unpublished elsewhere, the book covers every creative stage, and graphically demonstrates just why the ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Preproduction Art
If this book was written today, it would be one of those "The Art Of...." books. It is full of conceptional drawings and art for the movie, from the space suits, equipment, spaceships, interiors of both the Nostromo and the Alien ship, and much more. There are a lot of color pictures as well, of the many sets used. This book gives you a good idea of how the initial concepts formed and morphed into the classic film we know today. Great names in art are represented here, from FOSS, to MOEBIUS, GIGER, to Ron COBB. Some of their art work here I have never seen anywhere else. If you are into scifi-art, you will really appreciate this book beyond just the movie tie-in.

4-0 out of 5 stars PICTURE book of Alien is more like it.
Paul Scanlon and Michael Gross (Burt Gummer!?!) offer very litte text about the actual making of the movie. There is a token segment about the genesis of the script but the rest of the book is focused strictly on the visual aspects. No comments from cast, production crew, or composer Jerry Goldsmith are offered. Those (like me) expecting an in depth look at the making of a genre milestone will be a tad disappointed.Nonetheless, the countless conceptual drawings (both for used and unused concepts) from the pre-production of the motion picture and the generous amounts of stills will get the mouth of any Alien fan watering. An essential for the drawings and stills, but the text is strictly behind the scenes filler that is lacking both depth and insight.

5-0 out of 5 stars the book of alien
To all the film buffs, as you good people are aware this book dealt with the how and why the film,ALIEN, was filmed,i just wish that i had bought this, book in 1979 when this film was first shown.Overall a nice piece of history of horror set in space. This book is quite rare and is hard to find....please bring it back............. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A life and mind saver!
Its not as raunchy as it sounds...it shows different ways for sex, differences in the bodies and most importantly, the differences in sexually transmitted diseases and ways of birth control and that condoms are your friends :-) Highly recommended for sex ed for both male and female young teenagers. Explicit..yes but believe me they hear worse at school or on the streets and not in an informative way as this book does it.

at 13 this book and a box of condoms was given to my kids...with the repeated mantra after answering every question they had thrown at me from the age of eight, Condoms are your friends. With that I have piece of mind the chances of me hearing those dreaded nightmarish words of, "Mom I got some girl pregnant," or "Mom I think I need a doctor," will less likely happen...I have three healthy grown kids (my eldest now 25)and nope have never heard either statement that would have been the end of the world for me...better them educated and knowledgeable then sick with a deadly disease or trapped into early parenthood and ruining their lives. Knowledge is power.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't leave this lying around unless you plan to buy more copies!
This is an amazing, down-to-earth, gritty guide recommended by Rolling Stone magazine, Oprah and a host of other famous personages and entities. This book is simple to read and answers questions in a frank, honest manner.Dr. Joannides is easily approachable and his companion website:[...] is an excellent resource.

I am a Psychology and Human Sexuality instructor for a community college district and a student recommended this book to me a few years back.I have since used it as a supplementary text for my students, although I would love to adopt it as the text for the class. My students have had their parents, their significant others and even their teenage children steal this book and they've had to buy second or third copies for their household.Thank you to Dr. Joannides for acknowledging my students in this edition!

5-0 out of 5 stars awesom book
so this book is super awesome, it describes things in super good detail but without being crude, and at the same time there is humor involved. overall highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Guide to Getting it on Awesome service!!
Shipped fine, Not too much packaging as is typical of other Amazon items I've bought and of other online purchases in general so it's not as bad for the environment.

4-0 out of 5 stars Reasonable sexual health information
First of all, this book is over 600 pages long, and chock full of information (and nifty drawings of people having sex, etc...). I purchased it because I wanted a plain speaking book about sexuality that covers the gamut. I wanted something that provided helpful information to a married couple without the pornography, discussed sex during pregnancy, and helped explain sex to kids. Even though this book is huge with lots of technical information, it is very well written and easily digestible. In other words, it is written in plain-speak.

Some of the more helpful chapters included information about how to keep your stuff clean and healthy, clarified or dispelled sexual myths, and provided information that helped us just relax and enjoy each other (warts and all). This book also offers helpful information about dealing with sexual problems, rape, and sexual orientation. Like I said, this is a huge book filled with lots of reasonable, well thought out, information.

Lastly, this book has a small chapter devoted to explaining sex to children. If you have kids, or were a kid at one time, you know that everyone develops at different rates and in different ways. When those awkward one-on-one moments are in need of a clear explanation of sex, this book offers one approach. I'll admit, I didn't completely agree with everything in this book. Fortunately, the author is not arrogant enough to claim this book is the end-all be-all resource for sexual advice and information. But, it's a great place to start or continue your search.

I recommend this book, but keep it hidden from young eyes. No color pictures, but the illustrations get the point across. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A new way to look at "super" fruits
This book was a refreshing change to the hype that surrounds the claims for many fruits that claim to be super. The criteria for inclusion in this list rests on more than claims made by a company to sell its latest and greatest find.

I have seen the hypre for years and had even been drawn to items like the ORAC score to help determine which fruits are better than others. The criteria that Dr. Gross uses to judge whether a fruit is truly super is well-balanced and cuts through the marketing noise and gives the reader a more informed reason for choosing one fruit over another.

I was pleasantly surprised to see mango as the #1 superfruit and one of my favorites, acai, was at #19. I now add more mango to my daily ration of fruit.

As someone who works in the smoothie industry, I am always looking for which fruits pack the highest and best nutrient density so I can inform my customers. This book gives me great information to share and to use in my daily pursuit of delicious fruit to eat.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful New Book on Superfruits
The new book titled Superfruits is truly excellent.Dr. Paul Gross presents five criteria to analyze whole fruits.Using those criteria, he then ranks the top twenty which he calls Superfruits. Each of the twenty is described in detail including practical ways to get each Superfruit into your diet.Major research topics involving the Superfruits are treated in such a way that they are easily understood--if the reader desires more information, the book contains a reference section for that purpose.Every chapter contains highlighted sections with titles like Science Behind It and Myth Buster that add spice to the main focus of the chapter. This book is so well written it is a pleasure to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eat Quality Foods
The author names a series of superfoods. i.e.
o acai berry
o blueberry
o strawberry
o cran and red grapes
o anthocyanins

The body needs plenty of fiber and micronutrients
from these superfoods. In addition, antioxidants
are mandatory; such as the vitamins A,C,E, Selenium.
Kiwi has Vitamin C, fiber, Omega 3,6 and Vitamin E.

Resveratrol inhibits inflammation, anti-clotting
and the onset of cancer. The book has some classic
menus.i.e.

Citrustonic consists of banana, mandarin orange,
grapefruit and lime.Salmon with superfruits is
a powerhouse meal.

A strength of the work is that the author names both
the food groups and sample recipes concurrently.
The book is highly recommended for health buffs
everywhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiration for moreantioxidants & nutrients in your diet!
We've all heard of superfoods. In fact, I have an entire shelf filled with books whose sole focus is superfoods, some common and some exotic--but all packed with so much nutrition that they warrant being a base of one's diet.

What sets this book apart is that the 20 superfoods are all fruits. Nowadays hybrid fruit is often so sweet and high in sugar that it might be little more than junk food. The impact on blood sugar often makes it only a step above a sugary dessert. But these superfruits are packed with antioxidants, and 9 of them are berries, making them low glycemic (little impact on raising the insulin levels). The 7 criteria the author uses to pick the 20 top fruits are that the fruits should be rich in the Vitamins A, C, E; rich in B vitamins; rich in minerals; rich in amino acids and protein; rich in fiber; rich in omega fats; and rich in phytosterols. (We are given a page or so explanation of each of these 7 categories.) The author warns us that superfruit juices (diluted with concentrates) or supplements cannot replace eating the fresh superfruit in its natural state. I absolutely agree--processing nearly always diminishes the nutrients.

The book is divided into 3 parts and 4 appendices. Part I enlightens us on essential nutrients and what the author calls "superfruit signatures" -a specific nutrient feature that makes it exceptional among other plants. The four he cites are dietary prebiotic fiber, Vitamin C, carotenoids and polyphenols. 6 of the fruits contain all four of the signatures in high amounts (mango, red guava, dried goji berry, orange, seaberry and papaya). In part I we also learn about the phytochemicals and the health value of the different colored fruits. For example, red-tan, blue-purple-black colored fruits, such as dark berries or red grapes, often contain resveratrol, the nutrient being hyped up as a longevity factor. It has helped in avoiding cancer, Alzheimer's and metabolic syndrome. Page 41 provides a chart on the colors, with their phytochemicals and what they are good for.

Part II is all about the 20 chosen superfruits. Each fruit is given several pages. At the top of the page we learn where it is grown. Below is an "info-box" titled "Superfruit Snapshot" which provides its nutrient content, phytochemical content, and color code (so we can refer back to page 41 to see what it is good for). Some of the fruits also have an info-box entitled "Fun Facts" in which we learn interesting tidbits about the fruit. (For example, in the University of Maine, hamburgers mixed with blueberries were preferred over regular hamburgers, and leftovers lasted longer in the refrigerator due to the antioxidants!) Next, each fruit has a section explaining why they are super, followed by a section on what health benefits the research has shown the fruit to have, followed by a section that discusses how or what research has been done on the fruit. Near the end is a section giving us suggestions of how to get it into our diets (where to find it, how it tastes, how to use it--as in smoothie, yogurt, fruit plate, etc.) Finally, we have a "Superfruit Score" info-box. This gives us 7 rankings for each fruit, including nutrient content, phytochemical content, rank among the 20 in the book, medical research activity, popularity and more.

Part III gives us practical uses for the fruits. We learn which fruits fit under the color codes, and to go shopping for all colors for a well-balanced diet. We learn to think about the superfruit signatures while shopping. As a raw fooder, I would only buy them in fresh or sundried form. But for those who still buy processed, bottled things, we are given info on how to navigate various brands of bottled smoothies, 100% juices (better than the highly processed, nutrient-poor juices we are warned to avoid early in the book), and even superfruits in cereals, granola bars and packaged products. There is a chapter with suggestions on incorporating the fruits into your daily diet (ex: use of jams, sauces, side dishes, salads, etc). Finally, we are presented with a recipe chapter: 75 simple recipes in 6 categories (smoothies, breakfast and snacks, salads, sauces, seafood entrees and of course, desserts). Though there are no pictures, just reading some of these smoothie recipes makes my mouth water!

At the back of the book are 4 appendices, including one on 10 superfruit candidates for the future, 8 of them of which I have never even heard of! There are some advantages to the day and age we live in; we import exotic fruit from all over. (Note: the 20 tops fruits are ones that can easily be found in the USA, though you might have to go online for a few, such as goji berries, if you don't live in a city.)

This book is easy-to-read and makes a great reference. Everyone serious about adding antioxidants and phytochemicals to their diet needs to get a copy! This book will definitely inspire you to eat more of these fruits.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super Informative Book on Superfruits!

Product Description

Don't like the weather in Michigan? Wait ten minutes.

It's an old joke, but one that shows how temperamental the weather in the Great Lakes State can be---and how much the residents enjoy talking about it. Paul Gross, a popular Detroit television meteorologist, shows readers exactly how extreme the weather in Michigan can be, from heat waves to bitter snows, ice storms to tornadoes, floods to high winds.

Gross delves into the mysteries of extreme weather, explaining how the state's harshest extremes and biggest storms come to be, helping readers to understand and truly appreciate what greets them when they step outside each day. Weather in Michigan is memorable---nearly everyone can remember when an ice storm knocked out power for a week, when lightning hit a tree nearby, a snowstorm interrupted big plans, or record high temperatures allowed people to play golf in January. This is an opportunity to understand how those things are possible.

In addition to an exploration of the state's weather extremes, Gross also provides detailed weather data (daily record highs, lows, precipitation and snowfall) from twenty-two cities around the state, allowing you to see just how normal---or unusual---the day's weather might be.

Paul Gross is a Certified Consulting Meteorologist who works as a broadcast meteorologist for WDIV-TV, Detroit, Michigan.

5-0 out of 5 stars An absolutely wonderful book
I had to read this book over this past summer for Leadership Team on my college campus and loved this book. The chapters are short so it is easy to put the book down if something arises (you won't want to though...) and the lessons and insight is simply wonderful.I think that anyone that is of college age or older should read this book and try to take the lessons learned to heart. It reveals the wonder of God and the depth of his love and power like few books I know, and I can't fully explain my love for this book.A definite must read for anyone serious about strengthening and developing their faith! :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have For Christians
If you don't want to be challenged as a Christian, do not buy this book. The writers cover many areas of the Christian life from faith to fellowship to what it means to truly be a follower of Jesus. The writing is down toearth and honest . These people have lived what they write about and do notpretend to be super-saints. Every chapter ends with suggestions for furtherreading which is invaluable. I highly recommend this book to anyone wantinga deeper, more committed Christian life. ... Read more
