Pure Amy
I have always loved Amy Grant's music, whether labled Christian or secular. I think all her music is of the soul either way, and you can hear the songs as heartfelt poetry. The book puts into words the real Amy Grant, and you get to know her as a very spiritual person who is always growing and seeking to know more. She is a sincere woman of God, and her book is a joy to read. It keeps you captivated from the first to last page. I enjoyed all her poetry, journal writings, and the explanations of her songs. A great read.

Not an autobiography, but doesn't pretend to be
I'd like to start by saying that I think the 3-star review written on this site by "mir" says it all, and better and more graciously than I can!But, there are just a few comments I'd like to make about this eloquent and affecting, if limited, book.

I appreciate the fact that Grant does not present this sensitively-written collection of memories and mini-meditations as a fully fleshed-out autobiography.It is valid to say, however, that even within its intended parameters, the utter absence of any substantive mention of Gary Chapman mars the integrity of this book.Celebrated over and over again throughout its pages are the themes of family ties, fatherhhood (earthly and Heavenly), and childhood; Grant connects these themes, over and over again, not just to her life today but to her young womanhood and her children's early years.Unless she is forbidden by the terms of her divorce from Chapman to discuss him in print, there simply is no decent explanation for his absence from the narrative.Whatever the reason, I hope that Grant has thoroughly explained it to her children, for whom the book was written and to whom it is dedicated.

Secondly: Given that Grant explicitly intended this book for her children, its relentless singing of Vince Gill's praises, contrasted with the stark absence of even the briefest positive anecdote regarding Gary Chapman, is -- frankly -- shameful.

Amy teaches us what's important
I first saw the audiobook in Cracker Barrel and HAD to have it. I'm a fan of both Amy & Vince, but have never been to a concert. I received the book for Christmas and as I read it, I could hear Amy's gentle Southern accent reading to me all over again.

I was curious as to what happened between her & Gary Chapman, her first husband, to cause a divorce. Then I reminded myself that it was THEIR business. Just because she's famous, doesn't mean that ALL her life has to be public. And I was very happy she married Vince Gill.

Reading Mosaic will remind you of what's important in life: your family, friends, and keeping those memories alive. After reading it, you feel as if you have a new friend, who just happens to be a famous singer. It's not about the dirty details of her life, who wronged who and so on. It's about different pieces of her life - like the title says. Stories about her mother's tablespoons and how they always went missing, sitting in church and listening (or not) to the sermon, spending time with friends and making memories. You can tell that she values the people she meets and those in her inner circle.

I recently re-read it and came away with a renewed respect for not only Amy and her family, but also for my better half. She reminded me to value him every day of our lives together.

Moments in a Life
Those looking for a real autobiography, tell all or otherwise, look elsewhere.That's not what this book is.Instead, Amy Grant shares vignettes from her life and weaves them into musing on life and faith.Interspersed are lyrics from her songs and a few as of yet unrecorded songs or poems.

Amy tells stories about her extended family.Some are intimate moments.Some are fun.Some are very sad as she shares stories of loss.But through them all, we see lessons learned and are challenged to remember that people are what makes this life worth living.

I've been a fan of Amy's for years (although I never have made it to a concert).Yet most of these stories were new to me.They are touching and heart warming, sometimes at the same time.

Those looking for details about her divorce can move right on by.While she mentions the aftermath once near the end, she never talks about it as such.In fact, she goes out of her way to mention Gary as little as possible, especially by name.Yet we are treated to stories with Vince.Frankly, considering the type of book this is, I wasn't bothered by the lack of "dirt."It would have felt out of place.

Each chapter is a self contained story, usually only three or four pages.Most chapters have a song in between them.The book is just over 200 pages, including a timeline and discography, so this is a very fast read.

Even when the book gets into hurt and pain, it seems to rush by them to more pleasant topics.Even so, it was an enjoyable read that is challenging.While I wouldn't consider any of what she shares to be intimate, I do feel like I've spent time with a good friend.

Now I'm anxious to pull out some of her CDs again for a new listen.Fans will love seeing these stories in print and anyone will be better for the reminder that people matter. ... Read more

What an experience!
First of all, the song is one of the most beautiful songs ever written!I am not exaggerating. The first time I heard it, I cried.Growing up Catholic, this song meant so much but it doesn't matter what denomination you are affiliated with.We all understand the fear and struggle when asked to follow God's plan but we know that he will bring us through.That is what this song is about.It is one of the most beautiful Christmas songs ever written!

The story that Amy Grant writes to accompany the song is heart-wrenching.It's a modern-day version of the song.This song will bring comfort to anyone going through trials.This is an especially great gift fot expecting mothers.

I highly recommend this CD/book to all customers.It also makes a very nice and unique gift.It's for both the music lover and book lover.

Breath of Heaven
I was introduced to the song my senior year of high school when my choir sang it for the yearly High School Christmas concert. The teacher spent a class prior to the concert explaining the meaning of the song. I, and many others, were humbled when we discovered the power of the message that we were conveying. On the night of the concert it took all my skill as a singer not to cry as I sang the song. Just this last christmas I recieved the book and CD from my grandma. Even though I recieved several great gifts, it was this book and CD that touched me the deepest. The book gave the song a greater depth and meaning, and hearing the song again was a magnificent experience. I would recommend this book to everyone, but especially to women. It offers a message of strength and hope in uncertain times.

Beautiful book
I received this book in the mail and was excited about it because I had not really wanted to spend the money on it, but did want to read it. I have to say I was nearly brought to tears and certainly humbled by the experience of reading Amy's words and listening to her beautiful song in which she pays such a loving and reverent tribute to Mary. I remember Amy saying once at a concert just before she sang the song "Mary was not better than anyone else...she was just willing." I STRONGLY urge you to read this book and then sit and listen to the song while looking at the incredible illustrations.

A Beautiful Book with a timeless message!!
I got this book at the annual Amy Grant Christmas concert but was very happy when I saw it on Amazon the next day so I could buy it for presents for family and friends.The book tells the story of how Amy came up with the lyrics to one of the most powerful Christmas songs ever written "Breath of Heaven."The song is about Mary and the way she must have felt with all the responsibilty of carrying the savior.

The book itself is very colerful with pictures and verses throughout it.And the best part of the book in My opinion is the Story written about Amy on the reasons behind the lyrics to the song!As an added bonus the Book comes with the Single to the Song the book is about as perfprmed by Amy!A must for any Amy Grant fan or Christmas lovers! ... Too simple
The music in this book is very elementary (think beginning piano). I was looking for choir music which this is not.

Good for piano solos; satisfactory for vocal solos
The songs are written in the key which Amy sings them and are decently arranged for piano. I was disappointed that the arrangements weren't strictly written for a vocal soloist, as in Amy's original Christmas album book of the 80s, which had some wonderful piano accompaniments. Interesting, but not outstanding
Because I am a fan of Amy Grant, I like to read anything written about her.This book gives a good back ground for how the industry of Contempory Christian Music evolved into the big business it is today.However, I sometimes got lost in the details of the different religions and history of the churches.Since it isunauthorized, there wasn't much written that I didn't already know-being a long-time fan.The book does re-inforce her rock-steady faith and love for God.Overall, the book gives a good chronilogical view of how Amy got into the business and made it what it is today ...
