What's Good for the Gander
This book has big delicious pictures of full autumn weather and big friendly animals, notably "Gooseberry Goose."Gooseberry is wonderfully drawn, in flight his webbed feet look humorously oversized, and his long thin neck doesn't seem proportional to his giant two-layer wings and his hefty, round body. Gooseberry lives in a river community where all thefriendly, but very busy animals prepare for winter in their own way.The brown beaver must finish his dam, the deep auburn squirrel collects acorns, and the rabbit has to cozy up his den (the entrance to which looks very much like the outline of a bunny!). The bright colors and very approachable animals make for a joyous story.

But Gooseberry hears his own call of the wild, and that call commands him to practice flying. He has a bumpy takeoff near the beaver dam and soars happily among the orange and yellow leaves. There's just enough tension as we see all the animals gathering food for winter-except for Gooseberry. Even Gooseberry is concerned:

"Winter's coming! And I'm not ready!' said Gooseberry. Mama laughed. "Little gooseberry, don't you remember what I told you?Geese don't stay here for the winter. It gets too cold." We'll be fling south, where it will be nice and warm," Papa said. "It's a long, long trip, and that's why you need to practice flying. You've been getting ready for winter all day!"

In a final picture, we see Gooseberry and his parents flying high above the pond, where Gooseberry's non-migrating friends wave goodbye. It's a lovely picture of purple hazed mountains, golden-topped trees, autumnal leaves, and evergreen trees.This is a gentle story with friendly, inviting animal characters, a nature-driven plot, and excellent color quality.

An enjoyable and highly recommended picture book story
Gooseberry Goose is an upbeat children's picture book about a young goose who loves to practice flying. All his animal friends are preparing for winter by storing food or building a warm den, yet though Gooseberry Goose wants to prepare too, he can't bring himself to abandon his flying. Then the big day of migration arrives, and the accomplished goose learns that he has been preparing to deal with winter all along. A wonderful book
My son is 9 months old and just LOVES this book already. The cadence of the story is soothing, and the pictures are lovely and bright. He's reached out and touched "little duck" when I read to him since he was 7 months old... it is that vibrant. (Don't worry - nothing neon or electric here. Just a nice, bright yellow lead character who appears prominently on each page.)This one is a MUST for your child's library.

Sweet book
My son (almost 2) and I love this book. The rhyming story tells of a little duck going through his day: wiggling his tail, swimming, chasing a dragonfly and bee, watching a frog, going to sleep, etc... It is a sweet story and not as sappy as some other "mommy" books.

Highly Recommended
This book has absolutely beautiful painted illustrations and the story is a lot of fun to read. This is the book that I read once a day to my baby. He seems to really enjoy the illustrations as well. I definitely recommend this to any parent!

Best children's book I've come across
We've been fortunate to receive many books, including some "so-called" best sellers, but this one beats them all hands down. My 11 mth old loves it - she literally races over to sit on my lap as soon as I start reading the first page. It's a lovely simple story, great for any time of the day and I never get tired of reading this one. Beautiful illustrations as well. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Sweet book, my 2 year old loves it
THere are so many children's books out there and its so hard to know which are good and which are dumb.So, I had to write a review for this one.I've been so pleased by it.I love the board book binding, and yet its large.I get tired of all the board books being really small.My two year old loves books, but still rips them to shreds.I love the board books.He's a real duck fan and so when I saw this book I decided to give it a try.He just loves it.The pictures are really sweet and I love the poetry form of writing.I read it to him 4 or 5 times in a row each time.He won't ever let me spot at just once or twice.Absolutely give this book a try. ... Love it
My son loved this book so much that the pages wore out (in a good way; it has good construction).Has a great little rhyme, and the button with the duck noises isn't that loud unlike some other toys.Would highly recommend (with supervision) to any child 12mo+I agree with the other poster that even though it's marked 3+ it's appropriate for a younger child as well.

Five Noisy Ducks - Fabulous
While this book is marked for 3+, I bought this book for my 10 month old daughter.The pictures are great.It really helped her to learn the work duck.She loves to press the big button to hear the duck sound.There are some textures in the book which adds to the overall visual impact of the book.The pages have some 'holes' to them which are great for little fingers to explore.I loved this book so much I came onto Amazon today looking for similar books by this author. ...
