Adventure, danger, and bravery
Life is never boring for the brothers Bruno and Waldo Gillespie; since they were orphaned they have lived in the Pacific Northwest of the United States with the eccentric scientist, Professor Phaeton Featherwit. When a tornado approaches, they take off in the Professor's aerostat to investigate, and begin a hair-raising adventure. After being sucked right into the tornado, they find themselves transported into a desolate and uncharted part of the Olympic Mountains, where they find something beyond belief - a long lost city of the Aztecs - filled with Aztecs who may not want to be discovered. If only the boys can survive this adventure, they'll have quite a story to tell!

This book was first published in 1898, as a dime novel. This is muscular fiction such as boys used to grow up on, filled with adventure, danger, and bravery. Though the author does use such words as "redskins" and "heathens" when discussing the Aztecs, I did find his treatment of them very fair, especially for the era. So, if you are interested in young adult fiction, with fantastic encounters and derring-do, then you must read this book! ... Read more
