Product Description
Animal tracks in the snow of the mountain forest, in themud along a streambank, or in the sand of the desert are much morethan footprints. James Halfpenny’s Field Guide will allow the naturelover to satisfy his or her curiosity by identifying the animal thatleft the prints. But identification is only the beginning of afascinating activity: interpretation is the rewarding goal of thisbook. With it anyone can be a nature detective, able to reconstructthe behavior of mammals from mice to moose. Tracks tell stories andthe user of this book can read them. Based on field research, much ofit the author’s own, the book brings the amateur naturalist the latestinformation on animal gaits and the interpretation of scat. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This book belongs to the serious tracker
Great book to have on a tracker's shelf. I do not think this book should be the "soul" book an individual buys. If you would like to have just one book on the subject, Elbroch and Rezendez are the book you need to look at. This book is for gaits and behavior.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not all north american species
I like this Tracking theme and I wonder why there are many species living in North Mexico and South USA that are not included, like the Jaguar that still lives in Sonora and occasionally in Arizona. I will recomend other track books as:
Mammal Tracks & Sign: A Guide to North American Species

5-0 out of 5 stars The answers you need
Many times in the field you only see a small portion of a track, or an indistinct line of marks, like in snow a line of tracks may be a line of little holes in the snow. . is there a way to still tell what the animal is and what it was doing. . YES. The answers are in this book in Dr. Halfpenny's methodical way of measuring gaits, stride, animal size and other clues. With this guide, as well as Mark Elbroch's heavier one on Mammal Tracks & Sign you can learn to track animals.By that I mean you can tell what animals were there, what they were doing and when, even when you can't see picture book examples in the mud or dust. This book (my third copy) is in my pack, and Mark's is in my car (with a second copy at home).

5-0 out of 5 stars Better Than Tom Brown
More in depth tracks, skills, info, much better than any of Tom Browns books, also does not contain T.B.'s spirituality. The actual art this man retains is amazing!!! GREAT BOOK!!! There is a reason this book is almost always sold out!

4-0 out of 5 stars Written for the detective in you
Animal tracks are more than just impressions in the snow, mud, or dirt. They are a record of what an animal was doing, where it was going, and what it was thinking... IF you know how to read them.

Jim Halfpenny has spent most of his life following, recording, and interpreting the elusive tracks of animals. This book focuses on mammals.

Now there are a number of books on bird and mammal tracks.A Field Guide to Mammal Tracking in North America is much more than a collection of diagrams. This book:

*discusses the anatomy and behavior behind tracks

*develops a rationale on how to look at and measure a track

*revels the differences between a gait, a step, a jump, and a straddle

*discusses tracking techniques (Halfpenny gives seminars on this topic, and it is included as Chapter 4 in this book)

*reviews track characteristics of canids, felids, lagomorphs, ungulates, and rodents, along with bears, weasels, raccoons, opossums, and shrews.

*discusses "scatology"

*presents a number of interesting cases that he then works through to show the reader how to approach a mystery track and identify the animal, and its behavior, correctly.

This is not a very expensive book.It could have been even less expensive with the elimination of the 12 full-page color illustrations of selected mammals in the center of the book. They were nice, but distracting, and most of the drawings don't even have pictures of tracks, the point of the book!

This book would have been improved with use of a digital camera in capturing images of tracks. However, Halfpenny has been collecting them his whole life, certainly prior to the common use of this technique! This is a "must have" book for the serious tracker.... a bargain through and through. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A romance you will want to re-read because the journey is amazing
I love romance novels where I feel like I get to know the characters and the author takes me on a 'journey' through their lives. These are the types of books that you can read over and over again. It's not about getting to the end of the book or 'finding out what happens'... the story all along the way is such a great one that you want to lose yourself in it whenever you're in the mood for a great read.SEP does not disappoint! The circus scene might seem like an unlikely one, but as you get into the book and live through Daisy, you will quickly change your mind.I felt myself falling in love with Alex, Daisy and even the circus animals Daisy started growing attached to (especially considering when Daisy arrived she was afraid of animals)! As you read you also grow to understand Alex just as Daisy does and you live for those moments where you see more and more glimpses of him starting to change.

This is SEP's best book and I just completed my 3rd reading of it in about 5 years. It never disappoints!

2-0 out of 5 stars I can't believe this book got so many 5 starts!!!!
In a word, odd. This book is just bizzar.

There is just so many weird things with this book I don't know where to start.First, the fact that this took place modern day yet the h parents pretty much arranged a marage to a man with little concern to her happiness. This seemed more like a historical plot to me but whatever, kept reading. The fire thing didn't bother me as much as the other reviewers but I must say, also odd. Also weird is the entire circus thing. As a reader it was just hard to understand the H choosing to live with the circus after so many bad memories in his childhood. Wouldn't you want to never come back? ***SPOILER ALERT*** I am also wondering how one "tampers" with birth control?Again, just weird.

What I found most odd of all is that so many other reviewers found the H to be anything other than a jerk (I would call him something else but Amazon frowns on profanity).I love Alpha H characters but this guy was a Alpha-hole.He spends the entire book demeaning the h followed by a quick "sorry."He threatens her, intimidates her, accuses her of stealing, flirts with other females in front of her, really do I need to go on?Essentially, the entire book is a whole bunch of awful behavior followed by half-hearted sorrys and some sex in between. If that is what you are into then this book is for you.

I bought this book because of all the great reviews and because I was told that the conclusion of the book made you love the H.I'm disappointed in you, Amazon reviewers, usually I so agree with you!I kept reading this book waiting for me to like Alex (I knew I would never love this guy) but he was just too much of a jerk.***SPOILER ALERT***When Daisy finally comes to her senses and leaves this idiot he finally finds her but instead of lovingly winning her back he makes her come back to the cirus when he threatens to have her fired. For all that Daisy put up with, I think in order for this to have read better, Alex needed to make some serious ammends to Daisy and that never really happened in my opinion.A few jestures and a lame stunt was not enough for me to forgive all his behavior or to forgive telling Daisy to get an abortion when she told him that she was pregnant and scared.Just a very disappointing read.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a MUST!
I loved this story.....It really is very good and Susan Elizabeth Phillips as always came through with everything you would want in a love story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ignore the cover...
I have seen two covers for this book, and neither one has *anything* to do with the book.Having said, what's within the pages doesn't need a flashy cover.

Daisy's had a rough life.A bastard, she followed her society beauty mother across Europe her whole life, dabbling at an education, mostly just being in the shadows of an exibitionist.Upon her mother's death, Daisy finds herself with no skills and an boatload of inherited debts. Her biological father - a Romanov historian and European ambassador - agrees to give her a clean financial slate (as well as money to live on until she can find herself an income) if she can prove she's capable of living an ordinary, no-nonsense (glamour-less) life for six months. He mistakenly thinks she's as superficial as her mother was.

The deal includes a husband - Alex Markov manages a circus, and has no use for a society bride like Daisy, but is paying off a debt to her father by marrying her for six months. He thinks she's trite and spoiled and obnoxious; she thinks he's brutal and unfeeling and frightening.Neither knows the truth about the other.Or the truth about why Daisy's father ulterior motives in this crazy pact.

Honestly, I didn't expect to like this book.Daisy seemed ridiculous and too 'Paris Hilton' for my tastes, and it seemed sadistic of Alex to bring Daisy to the lowest low he could manage, intentionally. But there's more to these characters, a depth that the reader is lured toward, that is riveting. And as the story unfolds, the vacancy transforms to innocence and beauty, and the blackness transforms to pain and desperation, and when these things mix, it makes for one heck of a story.

Throw in a tempermental baby elephant, a fiery bullwhip, a few sullen showgirls, a motherly gorilla, and an angsty tiger, and the ride becomes unlike any you've ever read before.

5-0 out of 5 stars Such a great read
I've been waiting to read this book for a while now and I was absolutely not disappointed. The characters are rich and believable, the plot keeps you reading...What more could I say? One of my favorite books ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Gun Digest Book of the 9mm
Alot of great infomation on the catridge as well as the handguns. Covers lot of defferent info not covered by others.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting but outdated.
This book is a good read, with fine information on some of the morepopular nines, including the Beretta and the SIG.Ammunition is alsodiscussed. There are also lots of pictures (b&w).The potentialreader should, however, keep in mind that this book was published beforeour rulers passed another of their baleful edicts (1994 "CrimeBill") from Washington. This was also before the"resurgence" of the .45 Automatic pistol and was more or less atthe start of the .40 S&W's dominance as a police pistol caliber.I wasalso a little shocked at the author's equivocation of the .38 Special withthe .357 Magnum! But for fans of the 9mm round, the book is worth checkingout.Look for it at gun shows (I picked mine up for $5) or just buy ithere if you can't find one.

4-0 out of 5 stars 9mm handguns digest
excellent book with many informative pictures, but a little out dated in the handguns that are avalible today. it has an excellant section on ammunition for these handguns but is also a little outdated

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good Reference Book
I collect knives of all types. This book has strengthened my knowledge in blade.Good enough to give advices to other collectors.Very good writing and photos. Don't worry about the year it was published. You will need it all the times. Own One !!

4-0 out of 5 stars A Slice Of Life.
I have every edition of the "KNIVES" annuals since the first one came out in 1980. As a knifemaker and collector I like to keep up with the state-of-the art knives that these amazing makers present in this book. The photos are plentiful and the paper quality of these softcover books has greatly improved since editor Joe Kertzman has taken over the helm.If you like knives in all their glory, then all of these books are highly recommended. The only reason that I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I feel that Mr. Kertzman gets a little "ornate" in some of his descriptions. Let the knives speak for themselves, Joe. Hee hee.

2-0 out of 5 stars Knives 2006
Not the book I wanted.I wanted a book listing Case and Buck knives values. My mistake.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Photos alone are worth the money.
I decided to buy this book basing on the pictures of the knives inside.Once received, the pictures are worth more than the price I have paid for. Details with each knife is the extra bonus to the owner. Very good especially for custom knife collectors, and myself as a trader on ebay's -unclevit- listing store. I will buy more from this writer, perhaps every year. Recommend. Good Value.

4-0 out of 5 stars Knives 2004
As a new knife maker I found this book to be very helpful in visualizing knife design and the different styles. You wont believe the craftsmanship displayed in this book.I would highly recommend this book not only for knife makers but buyers as well.
Criticisms; I would have left out the ads in the back of the book and had fewer "factor trends", personally I would have paid a few dollars more to leave them out and see more custom knives. More color pictures would be nice as well. But still overall it has definitely set the bar for me in quality knife making. Great job Joe and staff I look forward to the 2005 addition. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Text for entry level students
Students will find this book easy to use and understand. The material allows students to start their learning experience at an easy level and movegradually to higher levels.Vocational students will achieve success in reaching their entry-level health career goal with this book.Students easily follow the workbook guidelines and teachers appreciate the easy to follow instructors materials.

5-0 out of 5 stars The intent of this book
This textbook and accompaning materials is written for a specific audience. It is a text that helps English as a second language, returning adults who may not have completed high school and for those needing simple and careful information. In some cases a student in the class may excel and the material seems redundant, etc.The text meets a very important need and the course instructor purchases texts to meet the need of her students. The previous reviewer was very disappointed in the book because of the level it is written for.She is probably a more advanced student.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrendous
This text is absolutely the most horrendous book I have ever used in a college class. It is written at about a 4th or 5th grade reading level, and within the text will highlight common, everyday words like "familiar", "prioritize" and "accurate" and then in a sidebar will actually define the words for you!I have never been more embarrassed to own a book (which is required for a health care class I must take). In another unbelievable chapter the reader is even told how to add numbers like 2 and 3!I kid you not.(check page 131 for verification)I cannot believe this book is marketed for a college audience, and will most certainly sell this book back at the end of the semester, as it is TOTALLY useless. The writers of this text definitely display a lack of knowledge in the fields of medicine and physiology.Don't waste your money on it. ... Handgus 2007
Edited by Ken Ramage

Gun Digest 2007
Edited by Ken Ramage

What can I say?
They don't make them like they used to.
This is not your father's gun digest.

It has been a long time since I bought a Gun Digest but I am about to retire and I want to revive my interest in shooting spoorts. My primary interest is target shooting with handguns.

I expected to catch up on all the new stuff and read dozens of interesting articles and seel all the new models and perhaps some fondly remembered old ones.

Well, they don't make them like they used to.
I was severely disappointed. Only 17 articles total. Many of them historical. The ones that are not historical tend to have long, boring, historical introductions.

The Photography is absolutely beautiful. If you are interested in beautiful pictures of beautiful guns, buy the Gun Digest. If you are looking for information about guns, shooting, or hunting, stick to your regular magaziine subscriptions.

If you are interested in handguns, Handguns 2007 is worth the money but just barely. It does not have the slick paper photography but it does have 21 articles. Still a lot of boring historical stuff about how one company morphed into another 75 years ago but a decent amount of real information.

The catalog portion is a disappointment, it is neither organized or comlete. There are photos of guns with no descriptions and descriptions of guns with no photos. There are manufacturers who are not represented at all.

Summary:
If you are interested in handguns, buy Handguns 2007 only.

If you are interested in beautiful pictures of guns, buy the Gun Digest 2007.

If you haven't seen one on quite a while be prepared for a disapointment.

1-0 out of 5 stars Save your money
This is an incomplete list of available guns in 2001. It also has guns listed that are no longer available. The pictures do not match up to the descriptions. There is a lot of useless information ie. air guns, lists of books about guns etc. I was disapointed with this book. I expected to see more information and reviews on available models. Did not even list Khar's 9MM, Guns and Ammo's Magazine Handgun of the Year winner in the book anywhere.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a good book, BUT!
It plays second fiddle to the Ken Ramage's other more comprehensive book on all guns- Gun Digest 2001.It basically features a broad selection of popular handguns... specs, data, pictures, etc.I'd recommend getting the full Gun Digest 2001 instead unless your love for firearms is reserved exclusively for handguns. ... Product Description
Golfing expert Dave Pelz focuses on putting in this guide - golf's least understood skill. Because a putt is the terminal shot on every hole and there is no possibility of recovery from short misses, putts count almost a disproportionate amount. As Dave explains, putting is actually simple to understand and do. Once golfers grasp his concepts they can perform on the greens as never before. Using decades of scientific research from studying thousands of golfers, Dave shows readers the simplicity of putting that escapes most golfers and lays out the 15 well-defined building blocks of the putting game that each of us already has and owns.Amazon.com Review
Golf's foremost apostle from 100 yards in, Dave Pelz follows up the bestselling Short Game Bible--his essential testament on how to get on the green--with chapter and verse on what to do once you're finally there. The lower your handicap, the more of a religious experience it should be.

While you don't have to be a rocket scientist to explain the forces at work in rolling a small, dimpled ball over changing terrain toward a cup that looks far too small for its purpose, Pelz was in fact a rocket scientist by trade. His approach is analytical, theoretical, mechanical, and systematic, brimming with graphs, charts, and illustrations. But don't let that scare you--for all the science, Pelz and the gospel he preaches are as inspiring as a good sermon and readily understandable regardless of your skill level. Yes, advanced players will no doubt be more intrigued with the depths Pelz plumbs, but high handicappers can draw solace from the quality of the supplicants who've sought his counsel--Lee Janzen, Annika Sorenstam, Steve Elkington, and Colin Montgomery, for starters--and proceed from there. Dave has a lot of knowledge and an inquiring mind. His explanations are lucid and logical. I have taken what I wanted from his theory and feel that my putting will improve because of it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dont waste your time
Holly cow was this book a huge waste of time and money. I have read about a dozen or more golf books, and if i can gain, at the very least a tip or two I consider it time and money well spent. NOT THIS ONE. My favorite line in the book is that "only 10 percent of golfers" will improve on their own. Really? So why sell the book at all. Here is Dave's best advice in the book..... GO to one of his schools.. or contact a pro to get more advice..I dont know about you but i bought the damn book because i cant afford to go to a golf school.
