Product Description
The author of this little volume has no other apology for offering it to the public, than the hurried manner in which it has been composed. Being detained in the city of New York on business, he seized the opportunity of a tedious delay, and wrote the work in the inside of one month, attending to other business through the day, and lecturing on physiology sometimes in the evening.

Product Description

Claire and her mother are running out of time, but they don't know it. Not yet. Claire is wrapped up with the difficulties of her bourgeoning adulthood—boys, school, friends, identity; Claire's mother, a single mom, is rushed off her feet both at work and at home. They rarely find themselves in the same room at the same time, and it often seems that the only thing they can count on are notes to each other on the refrigerator door. When home is threatened by a crisis, their relationship experiences a momentous change. Forced to reevaluate the delicate balance between their personal lives and their bond as mother and daughter, Claire and her mother find new love and devotion for one another deeper than anything they had ever imagined.

Heartfelt, touching, and unforgettable, Life on the Refrigerator Door is a glimpse into the lives of mothers and daughters everywhere. In this deeply touching novel told through a series of notes written from a loving mother and her devoted fifteen-year-old daughter, debut author Alice Kuipers deftly captures the impenetrable fabric that connects mothers and daughters throughout the world. Moving and rich with emotion, Life on the Refrigerator Door delivers universal lessons about love in a wonderfully simple and poignant narrative.

An original to be sure. I experienced intimacy and truth through this book's simple (yet poignant) use of personal notes. I've revisited them in thought several times since reading it... authentic art does this for me, regardless of its adherence to or departure from convention.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Peak Into Their Lives....
Life on the Refrigerator Door is about the relationship between a mother and daughter who get along but both have very busy lives. It is also about their struggle with breast cancer when the mother is diagnosed with it. I enjoyed this novel ; the notes offer us an intimate glimpse of their lives, but that's it, a glimpse. It didn't make me feel like I knew the characters or like I was one of them, which made it an easier read and the sad parts less heart-wrenching.This is a very short read, took me maybe a half hour, so if you like a lot of book for your buck, I'd get this from the library.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great novel about mother daughter relationships and hardships
Claire and her mom don't have a lot of time with each other. Claire's parents are divorced and her mom works a lot delivering babies. Claire is also quite busy socially, with her boyfriend, homework and babysitting. When her mom goes to the doctor's office, she doesn't not come back with very good news. As their time together ticks by Claire and her mom get into a few verbal fights. Claire's mom just wants to protect her from having to go through this too, but she might find she needs her daughter's love and support even more.

This was a touching story told in brief notes left on a refrigerator in a house rarely occupied by it's two tenants simultaneously. Claire and her mom seem to constantly miss each other. Some things are easier to say on paper, but some things need to be said out loud. This novel discusses growing up and growing closer to those you love and care about. I do wish the notes looked more handwritten, instead of typed out paragraphs.I think this is a great book that shows the dynamics of mother-daughter relationships. A must read for teen girls and their mums. It may bring you closer to your loved one than before.

First Line:

Favorite Line:
"I feel like all the colors in the room have got more intense."

5-0 out of 5 stars Life on the refrigerator door- review
One of my friends lent me this book 'Life On The Refrigerator Door', when I was in 4th grade.I absolutely loved it.I felt that it was such a touching, original story.Though some people flip through the book and say, "What is this? It's just a couple sentences on each page."That may be true, but some people look at it as a couple sentences, and some people feel these couple sentencs are so deep, that you appreciate the ability to read.

I still remeber every page and word, and still thank my friend for lending it to me.I think though you also need to buy or rent this book with a box of tissues, it's truely a beautiful book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Touching
I read this book at the library while my children played (It only took about 1/2 an hr or so) and it was well worth it. I found most of the "notes" realistic and touching. I did get very teary eyed at the last few. The relationship between mother and daughter made me think of all the times I should have verbalized in my own life. Life is precious. It made me appreciate it more. ... Read more

Since the days of Coronado, explorers have been captivated by the search for Quivira, the fabled Lost City of Gold. Now, guided by a mysterious letter, archaeologist Nora Kelly is about to remount an expedition her father conducted 16 years earlier -- before mysteriously vanishing in the remote canyon country of southeast Utah. For her, it is a journey that could solve numerous mysteries, personally and professionally -- or it could be the last trip of her life. ... Read more

why is Amazon Kindle recommending these titles for me if they are NOT available in Canada??

5-0 out of 5 stars Topnotch Action Thriller
Preston & Child do it again in Thunderhead, which is just about the best thriller I've ever read.I don't say that lightly. This book has it all, an engaging young intelligent heroine, mystery, action, Indiana Jones puzzles and one wholloping big surprise. The historical research into Native Americans and the Aztec culture seems realistic and is definitely gripping.

My one complaint with this dynamic duo remains true.Once again there is a secondarycharacter who is so wildly obsessed with achieving hers goal that she'll stop at nothing when any sane individual would quit (thus pushing the heroes into further trouble). Otherwise the story would peter out.Preston & Child's books are always a great thrill ride, but the repetition in the plots seems to be a staple.Neverthess, fantastic stuff.

Top recommendation.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great read!
A great tale that includes journey, purpose, discovery, clashing egos, character, suspense and is everything ever wanted in one book! This novel informs, entertains, and triggers the imagination all at once! While action filled, the book also contains quiet depth and wonderful insights.I particularly liked how the authors defined evil, not only perpetrated by malignant spirits, or easily identified monsters, but also accomplished in everyday life by every day people. It is a small quiet point near the end but one that shows the depth and intellect of the authors.

The breathtaking landscape (hostile, beautiful, secretive, and dangerous) scripted with such incredible detail that the reader sees, feels, and experiences it in a way that exceeds imagination. Both the landscape and the intriguing cultural aspects are rich in detail and as important to the story as the diverse talents and personalities of the book's characters. The story instantly comes alive with intrigue that educates and entertains all at once.It is without tiresome or tediously presented background, and skimming is not even a temptation. If the only scene in that book were the flash flood, it would be utterly enough.

The one criticism I did have involved female characters and a reliance on cliché "crucial timing - dumb decision" as a tension builder especially when it seemed out of character. However infrequent, it does happen.Nora never seeks help when wolf-people are OBVIOUSLY after her, not imaginary, and indeed following her.A reasonably smart terrified heroine in OBVIOUS need of help who cannot tell the whole truth is way more believable/interesting than a person who appears to be a stoic idiot in the face of spectacular insanity. Two guys dressed like wolves, who growl, smell like flowers, can nearly outrun a speeding car, and she just goes about her normal day?I doubted her intellect. Her situation would escalate from reasonable fear right straight to irrational terror and should have. In reality the police could not have helped fast enough. The aggressor has to commit a proven physical crime against the victim before they can really do anything beyond paperwork. Then there was the business of both intelligent physically fit females climbing up to escape murderous enemies and they (TWICE!!!!) throw the ladder down where the bad guys ARE (duh???) while cutting off their only means of escape (huh???)!Oh sirs, oh sirs. If the bad guy(s) were half way UP the ladder, I could see it but a one story wooden ladder is not going to be too heavy to pull up and keep.

That is absolutely the only criticism I can offer and it is a nit-pick when compared to the seat-of-your-pants novel in its entirety. This book was a tremendously rewarding read, written with rich detail, complex believable characters (except for that ladder bit, ahem), a universal theme involving both spectacular setting and circumstance.A GREAT READ!

5-0 out of 5 stars Keeping it Professional
Everything posted was found in the same condition when received, and sent in the estimated time period.

5-0 out of 5 stars A DRAMATIC TREK IN THE FAR SOUTHWEST
Timing could not be better given the current attention being paid to THE LOST CITY OF Z and the mystery of Colonel Fawcett (not Brad Pitt). This is a thrill a minute adventure into the Four Corners in search of the mythical city of Quivera. I would applaud the authors not only for plot development but for that of the central characters as well. Having read all of the Tony Hillerman novels I would argue the presentation herein of the tales of the "skinwalkers" is a chilling as anything the late Hillerman wrote. Most impressive is the list of sources consulted by the authors in preparation for this fantastic book. In terms of visual images no one has done better. ... Read more
