Golf Monster is the story of courage, devotion, dedication, and faith.We are rightfully awed by Alice Cooper's place in history as he combines Gothic horror with rock 'n' roll, which nobody had done previously.We respect and admire his love for first and foremost God, and secondly for his wife, family, and friends.We marvel at the way the Holy Spirit brought him through two deadly diseases, and while much has been said about his triumph over alcoholism, very little has been said about his miraculous survival of peritonitis when he was eleven years old.Cooper describes, in detail, how he, as a little boy, nearly died as, the doctors, upon discovering that his appendix had burst, in Cooper's own words, ". . . realized that every organ was poisoned. . . The Man With the Golden Golf Club
The title of this book, "Golf Monster: A Rock 'n' Roller's 12 Steps to Becoming a Golf Addict" can be a little misleading since Alice Cooper's book is not only about golf but also about his life in and out of the fast lane.Known to be one of the most shocking entertainment acts in rock history, the Alice Cooper that readers meet within these pages is far from the image many may have of him.He is honest and straightforward, pulling no punches as he delves into the deepest nightmares of his past and the joy he has found with his healthy addiction to golf.

Cooper begins his narration with a brief overview of how the game of golf saved his life when he was an alcoholic.Cooper then begins his tale with his childhood in Detroit, his band's move to Los Angeles and their susequent return to Detroit before breaking into the big time.Alice has a lot of memories to share about his friendships with famous stars and his experience as a rock star traveling around the world.All of these stories are interspersed with his steps on playing golf and how he became a golf addict and a rather good and respected amateur player at that.

At times, Cooper's narration can seem a little disjointed.There seem to be a few recollections that get repeated or half-repeated, and some chapters are a little choppy.But for fans of Alice Cooper's music and the man himself, this is definitely a must-read, for it offers unique insight into one of the most unique recording artists of the 20th century: there is a reason this man, a seeming bundle of contradictions, is still making good, relevant rock music.Even if you are not a fan of the game, "Golf Monster" is a thoroughly enjoyable journey through Alice Cooper history, filled with his trademark humor and irony.

Even non-fans would find this book entertaining

I was not an Alice Cooper fan; if I thought of him at all, I was probably appalled.Back in my teens or 20s, (actually anytime before last year) I'd never have believed I would voluntarily listen to, much less enjoy, anything by Alice Cooper.His music might still be a bit much for me, but I thoroughly enjoyed listening to his book.

Not being a fan begs the question:why did I decide to listen to his book?I heard him on Letterman and he was funny.He talked about how golf helped him beat his alcohol addiction.I do enjoy golf, so when I saw his book, I decided to give it a chance.I'm very glad I did.

The book is more autobiography than golf book.He ties golf into various aspects of his life so there is a lot about golf but if you'd rather watch paint dry than hear or read about golf, most of the golf stuff is in concentrated parts you can skip.The book starts with his childhood back in Detroit and continues to the present.It is about Alice Cooper the person, Alice Cooper the crazy rocker and a bit about the music culture.Oh yeah, and about golf.

Alice Cooper was born at the right time to have interacted with musical and cultural legends of the 60s, 70s and beyond.As a member of a struggling band in LA, he met Frank Zappa, Janice Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and others.As a golfer, he met musicians and comedians of the Rat Pack generation.As he and the band became more famous, he met more famous entertainers.There is a fascinating story about his meeting with Elvis and his feelings about the sheltered life Elvis had to lead because of his fame.Salvadore Dali did an art work of him.

The chapters on the band, how they got their name and look, the development of the albums and how they went from struggling to get gigs in bars and clubs to playing in stadiums is interesting even if you never liked their music.On a personal note, he talks about the toll constant recording and touring took on him, his alcoholism and what it took for him to finally get sober.He talks about his faith simply and without being preachy.(This was a big shock to me -- wild Alice Cooper is a Christian?!?!)

Alice Cooper narrates the book himself and does an excellent job.The listener feels as though he is sitting and telling you these stories.When he is relating conversations with famous people, he does imitations of their voices for their ends of the conversations.

My only complaint is that I wished this was an unabridged recording; I could definitely have listened to more.I would definitely listen to it again.

Good Golf Tips and Great Reading for any Alice Fan!

Alice Cooper Rocks!
We have only looked at a few pages, but is a very informative book. I will definitely add this to my collection after reading it. The Illustrated Collector's Guide to Alice Cooper

No question, the best book ever on Alice Cooper Collectibles ever!
As author and co-author of the Beatles collector book series for nearly 28 years, I know how much time and effort goes into compiling and assembling a book of high quality like this. Mr. Sherman's first offering was outstanding on it's own right, but in this 2nd edition "10th Anniversary" offering he raises the bar even higher. This book details and lists just about every prominent record, book, and video release ever issued by our hero (and his band(s)) for the last 40+ years. As well, he covers many very obscure issues many of you probably didn't know existed. It's a huge bonus that AC's TV appearances are included here as well making this a pretty complete and comprehensive media reference. This book is a bargain at twice the price. If you're an Alice Cooper fan or you are into collecting him at all, you absolutely have to have this book. Great work Dale! This was clearly a 'labor of love" for you and it shows.

Impressive!
I was very impressed with the intensity of the research and detail of this book. The author takes you chronologically through Alice's career, focussing on recordings, tours, film and television and books. He goes bit by bit, album by album, single by single, and fills each entry with loads of detail. Minutiae including who played what, on which song, how the song did on the charts, variation in design, dates, formats, catalogue numbers, trivia-pretty much everything I wanted to know about Alice's output from 1964 to 1998. The book is split into five periods: 1964-74, 1975-79, 1980-82, 1984-1990, and 1991-1998. It is chock full of photos (many of which I had never seen before) both in black and white and in color and information (much of which I didn't know). It is a fascinating read for the Alice Cooper fan, and written so it can be read like a book (I read it cover to cover the first day I got it), or used as a reference guide (I have referred to it many times since). Welcome to his nightmare...
Fans of the radio show "Nights With Alice Cooper" will know what to expect with this book.

Alice Cooper is easy company and a great story teller.He is open with his thoughts about everything in life, frank with his views and has a dry sense of humour.

He bounces the reader between his passion of golf (you don't have to be a fan), his development of "Alice" (again, you don't have to be a fan), backgrounded by his long battle with alcohol addiction - by the end of his story, you will be a massive fan!!

How Much of this Really happened?
Half of this book is golf tips and golf philosophy from Alice. The other half is his autobiography. Alice has apparently met many celebrites. He always did like to name drop but there are plenty of photos of him with Hollywood royalty so he did meet a lot of show biz people.

Alice has been known to be a story teller though. In the 70's he used to get bored answering the same old questions from reporters so he'd start to make up stories to shock and amaze reporters and amuse himself, like starting the rumour that he was really the actor who played Eddie Haskell on Leave It To Beaver.

One of the new wrinkles in this auto-biography is how he met his manager Shep Gordon. In his 1976 autobiography, "Me Alice", Alice decribes how his then drummer Neal Smith's sister Cindy Smith ran a clothing boutique in LA. Shep Gordon and his pal Joey Greenburg came into the boutique for some reason. They mentioned to the sales lady that they were rock n'roll managers. Cindy overheard this and convinced Shep and Joey to check out her brother's band who were in desperate need of a manager. Shep didn't seem too receptive at first until she told them they were to receive a six thousand dollar advance from Frank Zappa to join his record label. All of a sudden Shep and Joey's ears perk up and the rest is history.

In Alice's 2nd auto-biography, "Golf Monster", no mention is made of Cindy Smith. Alice and his original band mates were staying at the famous Land Mark hotel in LA. Shep Gordon was also staying there. Jimi Hendrix was also there and met Shep Gordon. In casual conversation Jimi asked Shep what he did for a living and such. Then Jimi said, Are you Jewish? "You should be a manager." Jimi arranged for Alice to meet Shep and the rest was history.

I guess this is more exciting story than the first one with Cindy Smith. It's better to say that Jimi Hendrix introduced me to my manager. What's Jimi going to do, deny it?

So take whatever you hear from Alice with a grain of salt..still interesting reading though.

Alice, your the best
If your a fan of Alice Cooper (like I am) this Is the book to read. His hole life story. I know he loved golf and Music but had know idea how much. read it you'll Love it.

Great book for fans, Good book for any reader.
This book was a great read.I am an Alice Cooper fan, and an avid Golfer which is why I found the book so good.Alice's stories about his rise to stardom and his experiences overcoming his alcohol adiction are really interesting and keep you turning the pages.Anyone would like the book, even if you're not a big fan because the stories are interesting, and the golf sections could be applied to whatever your hobby may be.

A Lot of Rock N' Roll History...And A Lot Of Golf
I've never been into football.Nevertheless, I really like the TV show "Friday Night Lights," even during the football scenes.It's all about football, and yet, it's all about people.

I have a similar like for "Alice Cooper, Golf Monster."

I don't golf.I would tend to agree with Mark Twain when he said, "Golf is a good walk spoiled."But even though ACGM is filled with lots and lots of talk about golf, and a good swing, it manages to remain interesting.Yes, it's about golf, but it's still about Alice.There are stories about Elvis, Donavan, Groucho Marx, Zappa, and dozens of others.

I've always liked the music of Alice Cooper.When I learned, years ago, of his Christianity, I felt like a brother had come home.No, I've never met the man, but somehow, I feel a connection.Silly, maybe, but I do.(I've seen him once in concert, and can't wait for him to return to Fort Wayne, IN.)

So, reading this book was, to me, like listening to an old friend.The stories, the insights, the drama, and the humor; they're all there.Occasionally, I find his theology a little too religious for my tastes, but I'm big on "agree to disagree."

If you enjoy golf, or rock-n-roll, you find this a very interesting read.If you hate golf, or rock-n-roll, you will still find this an interesting read.Addiction.Redemption. The return of the prodigal.Timeless themes as seen through the mascara-laden eyes of rock legend.

If Only
I read this book when it first came out.I have been searching for many years to find it.I was so taken by the story.I have checked every library search only to find it not in the inventory. No wonder! With a value this high it won't be found anywhere but here.If I could afford it, I would. Just not possible.I was and am a fan from his beginnings.A hard life, a fast life and now a long deserved relaxing game of golf! How fitting....xxoo

What's it worth to you?
I read this book in high school in the mid eighties, having been a fan since I was about nine years old.After seeing the prices wanted, I wonder if I would pay that amount.You have to be a hard core Alice fan , and if you are it may be worth it! It gave me a glimpse into the inner workings of my favorite showman at that time. Great stories that will make you laugh and cringe! P.S., the prices are steep because it's an out of print book that probably has only a handful of readable copies left in the world, and it probably won't get a re-print.Remember the Coop!

Oh Come ON!!
I've never read this book. At the prices being asked, I wouldn't buy it if Alice Cooper himself delivered to my house. What gives sellers?

I remember actually having a copy of this book that I bought a year after it came out in a Waldon's book store.Oh,it makes for good reading and all.But take it from me,DON'T even think about spending over,say $50 for this book.Simply because you might end up regretting it.Talk about regret:I know for a fact I don't have my copy anymore.'Me,Alice...' features plenty of inside info,specially on the band's early days of survival and all.Obviously,this book is in much need of being reprinted.Hint:maybe have a limited 'live' vintage CD of one of the band's early gigs,that has never been available elsewhere come with the book.Dealers THEN could likely ask a higher price for it.

Only You can decide if it's worth it...
For the price that people are charging for a used version of the book, you might want to see if you can borrow it before you plunk down the cash.

The book was written when Cooper was in his late 20's.There's a lot of declarations he makes in the book that probably were absolutely true when he was that age, but obviously are not now.Like telling us that in his lifestyle, he finds three things useless.Marrage, funerals,and underwear. Well, he's married with kids now. He's been to at least one funeral, and...well, we'll just let the underwear remain one of life's mysteries.It's rather interesting to see how we change in our values and opinions as we get older, and how no one is immune to change.We have a tendency to think that celebrities somehow get frozen in time and will be the same person at 40 as they were at 20.

The book is not for the faint of heart, but then again, Alice Cooper fans are known for not being faint hearted anyway.The general tone of the book makes me feel like I happened to get stuck in a broken elevator with the man, and just to pass the time, we're telling each other our life stories.It's got that casual semi-friendly feeling to it.A few times though, had I been on the elevator, hearing the life story, I would have probably cracked up and said, "Wow, TMI!"You will not look at jelly donuts again without either cringing or laughing.

If you're an Alice Cooper fan, you will want to read this book.You'll probably want to own it, although for the price, it might be too steep. ... Read more

Attention Alice Cooper Fans!!
A large sized hardcover book that is crammed with photos of Alice Cooper, group and solo. The publishers have used quality paper for the photos. The book deals with one photographer's collection of Alice Cooper photographs taken mostly from Alice Cooper's The Billion Dollar Babies tour of 1973 and The Welcome To My Nightmare Tour of 1975.
A large number of the photos are full page with some spanning 2 pages and all are in colour. The only negative is the limited amount of captions but there is a small essay on each section which explains the following photos. The book has its essays in English on one page and German on the other.

I would recommend this book as a book on Alice Cooper is a must for any Alice Fan.

Belivin The Beatnik
Michael has written a brave and adult book that will strike a chord with millions of Alice Cooper fans dismayed at the bands breakup.
Michael's opinion will not be shared by everyone but it is really about time we got a perspective from outside of the Alice Camp who rarely see beyond stary eyed hero worship at best.
The facts do not particularly favour either side. Alice Cooper split up with just one album to make. This deprived the band of some richly deserved royalties but it hardly pointed to Alice jumping ship at the first hint of commercial success. Alice himself points to a band that wanted to ditch theatrics and go more mainstream. True of Michaels solo album, but the Billion Dollar Babies BattleAxe album? and tour with its stageshow designed to rival anything Alice had done? Somehow it seemed hollow.
Michael possibly minimizes the strained relations between the band members at the height of their success. But band members Neal & Dennis were prepared to go on record as saying that current writing was overstating them# (#Bob Greene/Billion Dollar Baby).
Muscle Of Love had resulted in lawsuits which must have put pressure on the bands management. But Warners suing as it was the wrong type of product seems a gas in retrospect given the course Alice's solo career was to take.
Michael's suggestion that it was Shep Gordon who persuaded Alice to leave the band for a 50/50 split will always have some resonance just as long as rock n roll is rock n roll. All major bands have argued over this issue at some point.
Dont know for a fact, will never know for a fact and three decades later dont really want to. My judgement is just a musical one. Alice is for me rock's greatest performer he can make the most ordinary session musicians look great. But without his band he lasted for just one album before thirteen years obscurity set in. Something too many devoted Yes Men! were never concerned about.
Alice for me should have realised that it wasn't working without the band and at least offered the possibility of a reunion even if this meant splitting with his managment. Alice had every right to grow older, get married change priorities. I always had every sympathy for the pressurethe original Alice caricature put on him. But what no one can expect is for rock n roll to change with them. It never changes and once the personal stuff came into Alice's music things were going to get tricky.
Michael has written a book for the grown ups and not one for those more comfy with the no drugs just booze all nice guys legend. Michael has rightly or wrongly said what most of us secretly believed. The music industry was wrong. The men in suits were wrong, unforgivably wrong. They all took their piece of Alice and weve all paid our price.

Excellent!
This is an excellent book by Michael Bruce (Alice Cooper Band Original Guitarists) and Billy James (Ant Bee) which follows the Bands History from Arizona to Los Angeles To Michigan to Superstardom. It is well written and tells the story in an engaging way with much humor and candor. This is a MUST HAVE for any Alice Cooper fan and really any Rock Fan.

Better Songwriter Than Memoirist - But The Story's Good
Maybe Michael Bruce should have hired a ghost writer. But don't hold it against him. Until a better writer happens along, this will probably have to be the definitive account of Alice Cooper's early life---as in, when the name indicated a band first and foremost, even if the lead singer decided to adopt the name as his own stage name, too---if only because it comes from the man who was probably the real most valuable player in the band.

Though they began as a gang of rabble-and-rollers who also had a sense of the absurd which veered between the surreal and the downright insane (you have to hear their very first album, the Frank Zappa-produced "Pretties For You," to understand), it didn't take long before Alice Cooper began shaping into a slashing band with hooks to burn---the maturity which began on their second album ("Easy Action") and all but exploded on their third ("Love It To Death"). They may have been a rather watered-down and cartooned-up version of the Stooges' genuine teenage-wasteland angst, but there was no escaping the quick grip of songs like "Eighteen," "Under My Wheels," "Be My Lover," "Caught In A Dream," "School's Out," "You Drive Me Nervous," "Dead Babies," "Gutter Cat Vs. The Jets," "No More Mr. Nice Guy," and "Billion Dollar Baby." And it was predominantly Michael Bruce---who was actually the better musician between the band's two guitarists, though fellow guitarist Glen Buxton usually earned the raves for the spiky lead guitar work even when he didn't play it (which, beginning with the impossibly best-selling "Billion Dollar Babies," was damn near all the time; the stories abounded about the band using unseen guitarists to cover for Buxton while Bruce actually switched between lead and rhythm guitar onstage)---who provided the hooks and the overall balanced structure that made the songs workable even without the stage act whose shock value, in hindsight, wore off into self-parody rather quickly.

It probably should have surprised no one that the overworked Alice Cooper five delivered something less than their front line with 1974's "Muscle of Love." But what happened next proves somewhat tawdry---announcing a temporary hiatus for the band, on the pretext of regrouping and refreshing, Cooper the singer cut a well-received solo album ("Welcome To My Nightmare") with most of the band he swiped from Lou Reed (the famed "Rock and Roll Animal" group, spearhead by twin guitar slingers Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner)...and then some solo concerts with a few new variations on his old stage tricks...then another solo album...a few hit singles (especially 1977's surprisingly masterful and haunting ballad, "You And Me")...another couple of solo albums, including a live album at least a third of which was stuff from the old band. Meanwhile, the old band twisted in the wind and figured out the hard way that Alice Cooper the singer had no intention of ever reuniting Alice Cooper the band. (Almost a year and a half later, while Cooper was riding his slowly swelling solo success, the band gave interviews in which they assured one and all that yes, they were only on temporary vacation and they were just waiting for Alice to pass the word it was time to rock again.)

The band was fool enough to try it on their own for awhile (minus Buxton, apparently), changing the name to Billion Dollar Babies, and cutting an album which had plenty missing beginning with the foolishness of their new name. From there, they drifted apart to various ventures none of which came even close to their old glory, and practically the whole world forgot Alice Cooper was born as a band.

As all but the musical director of that band, Bruce has all the reason in the world to be bitter over their shabby treatment. He may not be David Niven as a show business memoirist, but given his limitations as a prose writer he's telling a story fans of the 1970s (remember: Alice Cooper the band was the hottest act in American show business from 1971-73) and of Alice Cooper will want to know, and if you get past his stylistic flaws as a writer you'll be surprised at how well he keeps the bitterness down to a dull roar and still has a stubborn pride (as he should) in what he did accomplish.

The Tale of Alice
The book began with a girl named Alice.Though you do not know much about her you see her world beginning to change.As you embark on an exciting journey through this life she is living, you begin to realize how strange, but fun it really is.You first begin by experiencing a great fall through a hole that does not seem real.It last for an incredibly long time and seems to set the stage for what the rest of the book will rely on.
Once the fall has ended the story begins to take place.You begin to see what kind of a place she has come into and how mysterious it is.Once again the rabbit she has seen out of the hole, has come into contact with her in the hole.She attempts to follow it, which then leads her into a room with many doors.This room will be where most of the journey occurs.As you see her going about trying to open each door, she comes upon something remarkable.A key to open a very small door and also a bottle that says drink me.So first assuring herself it is safe she drinks it and becomes an incredibly smaller size enabling her to be able to go in the door.
Though she is not small, she has forgotten the key on the table and must find it.This is how many of her adventures were spawned.She was attempting to get into the door that she saw inside when she was taller.It was a beautiful place with shrubbery and flowers that just amazed her.It was so amazing she would spend a lot of her time trying to reach the destination inside of the door.The things she does are so remarkable, like meeting different animals that are alike the rabbit.One of my favorite of the animals is probably the mock-turtle.He is just so interesting, but you will see what he does as you read in the book.
Lewis Carroll was able to fascinate my mind in this book.He has an interesting way to grasp the reader by the way he says and describes objects.The idea that animals can talk and can be part of a society that views this as average is outside of the normal belief.So once you let this book take hold on your emotions and let it grasp you, you are able to enjoy this book immensely.It may have been written for more of a childish level, but there are even deeper concepts that adults may enjoy.The humor that was placed inside of the book had me laughing and gave me a much more vivid imagination of the animals personalities.
I enjoyed this book greatly and would suggest it to anyone who has time.Though it may not be an enormous book it has become one of my favorite books.Many people know this story, whether they saw it in a movie or they read it, so you are able to speak with others about this as well.I believe Lewis Carroll to be a remarkable story teller and author.Also if you enjoy this book it does not just end here, he has written Through the Looking Glass as well.This is a continuation to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland so the attachment you have gained from his prior writings, you may continue.

An Inimitable Masterpiece and a Timeless Classic
"Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" is one of the most beloved children's classics. It has been adapted into numerous cartoons, films and plays over the years, and it has become an important backdrop of the World culture. It is a brilliant and zany fairy tale that remains fresh and engaging well over a century after it had been written. This is in large part thanks to the unforgettable and unique characters that are as famous (if not more) as Alice herself: the White Rabbit, the Cheshire Cat, the "Mad" Hatter, the Queen of Hearts and many more. They are among the most idiosyncratic characters in all of literature. However, the aspects of the book that I found the most fascinating were the clever use of language, the numerous puns, and the plays on the difference between the literal and actual meanings of different expressions and saying. It was very amusing to read these, and realize how clever and verbal this book actually is. The book made me reflect again on so many aspects of the world that I take for granted, and it made me feel like a child exploring and learning about various objects, ideas and relations for the first time. This alone makes this book worth reading and rereading, and I expect to come to it many times again.

Don't Pay Attention to the Editorial Review...This Book Rocks!
I have to say that I completely disagree with the editorial review of this book. My daughter is 4 and I have tried to get her to listen to the original Alice in Wonderland many times, but if you are a fan at all, you know that it is pretty advanced material for little kids. This version however, is so beautifully illustrated that it totally keeps my daughter's attention! Personally, I find the different illustrated versions of Alice fascinating rather than confusing, and my daughter does as well. It was the first book the we ever just read and read and read and read......and after an hour or so I realized she had finally fallen asleep just dreaming of Alice! What a beautiful version of this classic tale

Alice, Again and Again
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, a Classic Illustrated Edition compiled by Cooper Edens and published by Chronicle Books, offers illustrations from the late 19th and early 20th centuries from multiple artists. The cover opens up to reveal a four-and-a-half-page collage of these illustrations. The art was compiled by Cooper Edens who, according to the publisher's website, "owns one of the largest collections of vintage picture books in the world."

As a lifelong fan of the original story, it's neat to see different interpretations of the same characters almost side-by-side. For example, the first four pages of Chapter IV: Pig and Pepper offer three different depictions of Alice with the frog footman, one of which is a full-page color illustration by Harry Rountree. This volume included some of my favorite Alice illustrations, such as the trial scene in Chapter XII: Alice's Evidence as drawn by both Tenniel and Arthur Rackham. (Note that this edition colorized Tenniel's courtroom scene and flipped Rackham's card-tumbling image.) It also introduced me to other lovely pieces, including A.A. Nash's tall Alice and Maria Kirk's sweet-looking brown Cheshire Cat, blending in with a tree. The book closes with an alphabetical list of acknowledgments, noting all of the persons whose collections are included.

The original text has been kept in tact. My favorite piece of emblematic verse, The Mouse's Tale, which can be found in Chapter III: A Caucus-Race and a Long Tale, retains its intended, poetic tail shape rather than being flattened into sentences.

All in all, this is a nice addition to the bookshelf of an Alice collector. Thank you, Chronicle Books, for including Alice's Adventures in Wonderland in your library of Classic Illustrated Editions.

Beautiful Fully Illustrated
I wanted to read Alice in Wonderland to my 3 year old daughter.She will listen to stories, but has a much better attention span if they are illustrated.This book has illustrations on every page.I know some people hesitate because the illustrations are not all by the same artist, so depictions of Alice are not consistent.I certainly didn't mind that, and my little girl didn't, either.She was ENRAPTURED.
We LOVE this book.It's become nightly reading at bedtime.It's large, easy to share with a little listener.It's also beautiful enough for a keepsake.Highly recommended for anyone who wants to share this story, or wants to see all the glorious illustrations done over the years, by many talented artists. ... A novel you won't put down until the final page, and one that you will surely pick up again and again.

The writing, the language, the often sarcastic and witty interactions amongst characters makes this novel one of the best I have read in years.It will keep you coming back for more.

A terrific book
This is a novel you can't read just once. I finished "The Real Alice Cooper Wants To Be Famous" on a Monday night and the next night started in on page one again. It's addictive like that.

The second time around, you can open it up anywhere and just start reading. It's so engrossing, and the language is so flowing that, right away, you'll be caught up in the story again. You might be reading about flaky "Alice" herself . . . or the straightlaced Brother Gilroy . . . or the hugely-endowed Benjamin P. Cooper, CPA . . . or poor, tubby old Dottie Rosenthal . . . or wistful little Cathy Moriarity . . . or one of the two coolest monks you've ever met, Brother Zachary and Brother Brother . . . or a group of local townies who are unintentional comedians . . . or even a pair of Dobermans who smile and never bark. Whichever character you chance upon, it's like meeting an old friend -- and hearing them talk to you in their own distinctive voices.

"The Real Alice Cooper" is a genuine trip because it pulls you in and it doesn't let you go. You get wrapped up in all the people who pop in and out of the book and you find yourself enthralled. Just as amazing, the novel doesn't insult your intelligence. The action is always logical and plausible. The same with the characters: Even when two women take up with the same lunatic man, one after the other, it's somehow so inevitable that you know this is why they say life imitates art.

Alice manual still has me in Wonderland.
This bok was highly recommended for students learning to program with Alice. The Alice program is supposed to be adaptable for all ages but I would have to really adapt the info in this book to pass it along to my middle schoolers.I am finding it somewhat useful for mysel but I found it a bit tedious at the beginning and would like to see somewhere a more concise, better diagramed version.

For the Alice Cooper Completist
I actually bought this book just for the "Dave Mc Kean" value. I was surprised to read a sick and twisted tale that rivals the comic series Todd McFarlane has done for KISS. It also has a great art by Michael Zulli, although I like his pencilled art on the Sandman series: the Wake. ... not a big Alice Cooper fan. I heard that lots of Cooper maniacs are after this gem from the now defunct Marvel Music series...
