Product Description
The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars.
Delve into what it was like to live during the eighteenth century by reading the first-hand accounts of everyday people, including city dwellers and farmers, businessmen and bankers, artisans and merchants, artists and their patrons, politicians and their constituents. Original texts make the American, French, and Industrial revolutions vividly contemporary.

Well put together. The research was impressive. This is a very informative work on a subject that has enjoyed little attention. Great understanding of the importance of Chief Bowels in Texas history. A standard on the subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars This author understands the East Texas Cherokee:
The Texas Republic
Chief Bowles and the Texas Cherokee tells of the life of the Cherokee tribe after their move south to Texas. This book gives many of the important details that most authors omit: as far as telling the cause of their move to the Piney Woods, andthe quest of new settlers who wanted the land of east Texas for themselves. This is a difficult story to tell and this author has done this very well. As an author on Texas history I know how important it is to stick to the details and shed light on those things that are lesser known to give a full vision of the plight of the Cherokee as they were forced from their land by Texas President Mirabeau Lamar. Chief Bowles was a great leader and he died a terrible death trying to keep his tribe intact. People like him are often misunderstood, and misrepresented in most literary works, movies, and in most general school textbooks. I recommend this book and I respect the way this book honors the Cherokee by remembering them properly.
Thank you, Joe Blevins Author of The Texas Republic, After the Republic, and Goneto Texas. ... Read more
