Excerpt: Jonathan Peter Wilkinson OBE (born 25 May 1979 in Frimley, Surrey) is an English rugby union player and member of the England national team. Wilkinson rose to acclaim from 2001 to 2003, before and during the 2003 Rugby World Cup and was acknowledged as one of the worlds best rugby players. He was an integral member of the 2003 Rugby World Cup-winning England squad, scoring the winning drop goal in the last minute of extra time against Australia. He plays his club rugby for Toulon following twelve seasons in the Guinness Premiership for Newcastle Falcons. Wilkinson has also toured twice with the British and Irish Lions, in 2001 and 2005, scoring 67 Test points in the 6 Lions test matches he has started. On 3 April 2009 at Guildford Cathedral, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Surrey for services to the sports industry. Wilkinson started his career at Newcastle School of Rugby as an inside centre, competing for a place with international veterans such as Inga Tuigamala, and British Lion Alan Tait. Daisaku Ikeda was born of seaweed farmers at ta, Tokyo. He was the fifth son. He had four elder brothers who fought in World War II and also had two younger brothers, and a sister. As a child, he suffered from poor health and later tuberculosis, and doctors predicted that he wouldn't survive beyond the age of 30. Ikeda's family endured the hardships of the war. In his youth, he lost his eldest brother Kiichi Ikeda (19161945) to World War II, which developed in him a strong opposition to war. In his late teens, in August 1947, he learned of Nichiren Buddhism through Josei Toda, a Nichiren Buddhist, educator and peace activist, and then president of the Soka Gakkai. In 1948, he quit night school, in order to help and work for Toda's publishing business. In return, Toda taught Ikeda literature, history, chemistry, physics, political science, economics, law, mathematics, and Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhist philosophy.
