4-0 out of 5 stars Great for Young AND Old Adults
Kassy Tayler really has a great voice for the YA market! I liked the believable 14-year-old-ness of her characters. It was fun without being too didactic, but still had good pieces of morals running throughout. Enjoyable, even though I'm an old coot! :-)

4-0 out of 5 stars Obsessing Orlando
Even though I only gave this book four stars, I really did like it.
I found I was able to relate to the main character incredibly well - she plays volleyball, likes boys, listens to good music, chats with friends, and deals with annoying siblings.
There seemed to be something small missing - maybe a sequel is needed?
I recommend this one to anyone who likes a light read and wants a little romance.

5-0 out of 5 stars First Love...Celebrity Style
Jenna's life was perfect. Her high school years had begun, and while everything within the school hallways - upperclassmen, cheerleaders - could really ride on someone's last nerve, Jenna was lucky to have her Orli sanctuary in her bedroom at home. Everytime something went wrong in her life, she would simply lock herself away in her Orlando Bloom shrine, and stare at her posters, pictures, pillowcases, and whatever else had Orli's face on it. But one day, her sanctuary is gone. Her crazy mother has gone "Trading Spaces" on her, and stolen all of her Orli memorabilia, sending Jenna's life into a tizzy. Until she meets Will Addison, the cute new guy in town, who looks like he just may be the perfect first boyfriend. But Jenna is torn. She doesn't know whether betraying her ridiculous crush on Orli and taking the plunge with Will is the right thing to do. After all, Orli had her heart first. But Will is right in front of her, and kissing an actual guy - instead of a poster - would be a nice change.

Kassy Tayler - better known as Cindy Holby - has captured the essence of being a teenage girl, and having a crush on a celebrity. A crush that causes you to question your relationships with in-the-flesh guys. Her descriptions of first love - even if it is one-sided - are absolutely wonderful, and will have pre-teen and teenage girls giggling in agreement with everything in Jenna's life. Tayler is a fabulous new addition to the SMOOCH team, and her writing is sure to be a hit with all. An enjoyable look at first love...celebrity style.

4-0 out of 5 stars strong look at young teenage love
Jenna Wheeler loves Orlando Bloom and dreams of one day marrying the actor. Her bedroom is dedicated to the star with posters everywhere and even her pillowcase contains a picture of his bod. That is until her mom decides to redo her room in "Pepto Bismal" pink while Jenna is away. Her beloved "Bloom wallpaper" resides in her closet as her mother explains that as a fourteen year old entering high school she needs to behave accordingly.Knowing she lost the battle, Jenna thanks her mom for doing such a nice job with her room while her older brother teases her about the demise of Jenna's love life.

At high school, Jenna meets cute boys that she likes. However, there is one particular teen Will Addison that makes Jenna wants to forget her Bloom. She agonizes over begin unfaithful to her crush yet the temptation is clearly there.Should she choose the handsome student who seems to like her as much as she does him or wait and hope that one day her unrequited Hollywood Prince Charming will sweep her off her feet?

OBSESSING ORLANDO is a fabulous teenage character study that follows the frustrations of a girl whose crush is way beyond her reach, but can dream that one day her prince will come for her.Young adult readers will feel for Jenna as she wonders if she should drop her vow and switch her allegiance to cute Will.Kassy Taylor provides a strong look at young teenage love starring a high school freshman who seems like the real deal as she struggles with radical stressful changes in her life like entering high school and liking the local boys especially the newcomer.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Generation Gap is not so narrow as we imagine....
....because a few things don't change. Every chick can look back on her childhood and remember the celebrity heartthrob of her day.

It's difficult for adult writers to pen works that real teens can relate to, but Kassy Tayler obviously did her homework in this entertaining work that blends current pop culture with her subject matter. This really isn't a surprise, since Kassy Tayler is better known as Cindy Holby of the bestselling "Chase the Wind" series as well as Colby Hodge of the sci-fi romance "Stargazer."

If the novel has a flaw, it's the part where the parents not only force Jenna to get rid of her beloved Orlando Bloom collectibles, but take them down and throw them away herself - I thought it overdone, bordering on downright vicious; surely most real parents humor the Obsession Of the Day and wouldn't be so cruel - but the rest of the novel is highly realistic as Jenna moves from adolescent fantasy to interest in a real, accessible hottie.

This novel is highly entertaining and would make a nice stocking stuffer for a young reader. Moms - if you love Cindy Holby, be sure to check out Kassy Tayler, and span the generation gap with your daughter for the holidays. ... Read more

Product Description
Meet ten-year-old Lord of the Rings nerd Jason Fox and his high-school freshman sister, Paige. Jason can't believe he and his sister are both vying for front-row seats to the release of the movie. There's no denying that things will never be the same with heartthrob Orlando Bloom's involvement in Jason's favorite series. Don't forget their underachieving older brother, Peter. With three strong adolescent personalities in one household, colorful stuff often hits the fan; dad Roger usually ducks to avoid it, while mom Andy tries to keep it from staining the rug.

Orlando Bloom Has Ruined Everything lampoons memorable moments from 2003 and 2004, such as the East Coast blackout. In the FoxTrot version, an "ink outage" renders several days' strips only partially drawn. "I called Funky Winkerbean. He says the ink's out over the entire grid," Jason reports.

In another series of strips, Jason's latest money-making scheme involves creating an animated film to rival the box office blockbusters of Pixar and Dreamworks: "It's the tender story of a leech's search for his missing son. I'm calling it Finding Hemo.

The success of FoxTrot has yielded consequences creator Bill Amend may never have imagined. The strip has been used as a question on the game show Jeopardy! and as an answer in the New York Times crossword. It's a fitting irony that FoxTrot has become a fixture of pop culture, the very phenomenon it parodies with such keen wit. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Orlando Bloom Has Ruined Everything. Foxtrot, All Great!
I've been a Foxtrot reader for a long time and personally I think there is something suspiciously wrong with people who don't find Bill Amend's characters funny as all get out. If you want a good laugh, check out Bill in your local newspaper, or better yet, get one of the Foxtrot books. They are all great, really, they are.

Like many of Mr. Amend's fans I'm a bit disappointed that he's switching his strip to Sunday-only, but fortunately I can still read him daily in the Foxtrot books. Get them one and all and you can keep right on a laughing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great Fox family book
We loved it! Our favorite comic and our favorite movie all combined in one book. Ths Fox family will be missed now that Bill Amend has retired but this book keeps us laughing.

4-0 out of 5 stars You know it is true!
Bill Amend is a people-watcher.You can tell this by how his FoxTrot characters mimic real life situations and issues.Unfortunately, he seems to be spending too much time spying on me!At least that is my perception when I see the goings-on of the Fox family!

Orlando Bloom Has Ruined Everything : A FoxTrot Collection, is a funny and timely addition to this long-running cartoon series. As the title suggests, it covers a period of time that the country was wild over Lord of the Rings. But don't dispair... there are still plenty of strips on Thanksgiving dinner, football in the snow, Quincy, dating, snow people, math, allowances, chess, electronic games, tofu, and homework. And if you know what I am talking about, then this is not your first FoxTrot book!

I only wish there was a bit more content in these books! You go through them too quickly!Four stars instead of 5 for this reason.

3-0 out of 5 stars Really cute

4-0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!according to my niece
Bought this for my niece, who is 17.She really enjoyed it.I didn't get a chance to look at it but I'd venture to say that if you have a teen who really loves Orlando, she will love this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice large format
I would recommend this book for Orlando fans. It has very large pictures and seems to be well researched. There are three reasons that it fell short of five stars. It tends to veer off of the subject of Orlando quite a bit. There is a lot of information about Harry Bloom, J.R.R. Tolkien, and the Black Hawk Down incident. Also, it lists Gabriel Byrne as Fritz in Haven. That is incorrect, Gabriel Byrne dropped out of the project.Fritz was played by Victor Rasuk. And finally, it reuses a picture of Orlando smiling and winking at the Hollywood Film Festival awards. They flipped it and used it, then flipped it back and cropped it and used it again.

But overall, it's pretty good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Even by the first 5 pages
i have always loved orlando bloom - i'll admit it's the reason i watched the Lord of the Rings series in the first place. but, then, i grew to find he was more than just cute - the magazines, books, Internet stories, and biographies revealed him to be a very admirable person. the first five pages of this great biography have turned my view around - obviously there is a whole other side to this star. i can't wait to finish reading it! ... Product Description
For millions of fans, the irresistible pull of the Lord of the Rings film trilogy or Pirates of the Caribbean lies not only in the storylines, but also in the brooding good looks of Orlando Bloom. These lucky breaks to star in blockbuster films were the realization of a dream cherished since childhood and the result of an adolescence spent attending drama school and honing his theatrical talents. Examining Bloom’s upbringing in England, as the son of distinguished writer and activist Harry Bloom, and detailing his rise to prominence, the book also covers his personal life — his varied interests, his relationships, and his penchant for extreme sports. Packed with glossy photos and film stills, Orlando Bloom offers a fascinating look at the young actor whose legions of fans continue to grow with each new film. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Filmology
This book is pretty complete filmology of Orlando's work and is actually pretty current. Some of the pictures aren't his best, but there are some real gems to be found throughout. Not a lot of personal information if that is what you are looking for.

1-0 out of 5 stars What the ****
For the life of me, I dont know why people glorify actors such as Bloom. I say with conviction that he isn't a good actor and only has his looks to show (although Ive heard of his charitable works which is nice to know but it isnt enough to survive in Hollywood). It is sad that people milk Bloom for all his worth until someone comes along to snag him and his fans from the top.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Bloom with a View
"One day Orlando Bloom was a cute English kid reciting poetry to his neighbors."While not particularly verbose or grammatically correct, this - the first sentence in Orlando: An Unauthorized Biography - is haunting in its utter simplicity.

I have read Charles Dickens, Shakespeare, Jane Austin, and others. I play chess as well. This is my favorite book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Well Researched
I got this book for free and it was still too expensive. The information is taken from substandard websites, now deleted yahoo groups and tabloids. Much of it is untrue. I do not recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Children will listen
This book when placed into the hands of a child they get it. They understand through the beauty and majesty of the photography that there is an important story being told. When my little niece saw this book she said she felt sad that for the lonely penguin on the cover. She wanted to know if there was a way to help him. When I asked her what she thought of the book she said she like the pictures a lot.
You will too.

5-0 out of 5 stars A beautiful portrait of Antarctica for young people
This book is mostly photographs, taken by Sebastian Copeland during a recent voyage to Antarctica. 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
This a quick and fun read on Orlando. I enjoyed the book. It had plenty of good info on him and pictures. I highly recommend this book to Orlando fans.

2-0 out of 5 stars A Joke
That's how I got this book--my family knowing I'm an Orlando Bloom fan, they bought this book when they saw it in Safeway. I thought it was hilarious, but decided it would make an interesting read.

I know a lot of the material is accurate, but it's not really anything you couldn't learn by just going to a fan site on the Net. The author seems to try to spice up the "biography" with some dialogue and insights into actor's mind. Though he states in the beginning that he did this all in Orlando's character, it's a bit distracting, not to mention that sometimes it's a bit difficult to tell what really happened.

I was most insulted at the book's incorrect information. It may just be because I'm a huge Lord of the Rings fan (books and movie), but it clearly shows that the book was not very well edited, probably a rush job to get it out in circulation quickly. The name "Gollum" is spelled as "Golem", there are some minor plot mistakes, and pictures from the various LotR movies are very mistakenly captioned. (A picture from Aragorn's coronation labelled "Fellowship of the Ring"??)

I would say you should only buy this book if you're a big Orlando Bloom fan and want to have all the merchandise you can get your hands on. If not, just go and read a biography on a site like The Orlando Bloom Files. It basically says all you want to know in a nutshell, without the extra little flourishes. Another reason to buy this book is if you want to know more about Orlando's career before he got into movies--the book at least has some interesting info there. This book may have been a bit disappointing, but it was amusing to read. ... Read more
