very disappointed
I was very disappointed in this book,it has horrible pictures and very unexplained descriptions. I'm actually throwing it out in the garbage.
Cutting Hair and Saving Money
I've been cutting my guys hair for about 6 months with clippers and scissors.I have 2 younger nephews that I don't use the clippers on and while I had watched a video, I found this book to be a great step-by-step guide for cutting boys hair.I have not gotten brave enough to cut my own hair but this book is worth every penny. My nephews are 8 & 2 and they looked like they had been to a professional.
Got compliments the next day! Quick read, not for beauty school dropouts
I bought 3 different books on cutting hair. Although the other two had higher ratings, ultimately this is the book I read and followed. The other books (scissors and comb) are to teach you how to cut other peoples hair to look like the cast of Eight is Enough or the son in law in All in the Family (good stalker andandrogenous cuts in there if that's your thing). And the dummy book is not for dummies. Its like a beauty school reference book. If you want to buy a book, read it in half an hour and get cutting right away with some semblance of success this book is for you. The other ones leave you lost in detail. Albeit maybe you can screw up big time but this book teaches you how to cut YOUR own hair. So if you want to bob or layer your hair it uses some unconventional techniques but they work pretty well. I'm still gonna read the other books but if you're a DIY person and a How-To person who needs to see results fast, this book does the trick. Not too many complicated details. Not too wordy. Just enough to get it done.
And my hair looks really good now!
if your hesitant, just consider your face shape. If you have the ideal oval face (I am either round or heartshaped faced) then pretty much you can't go wrong. However there's always a chance that someone out there is going to try the wrong style or cut on their face. And possibly not be a real DIY type who can finesse their way out of anything. But I liked it and I encourage people to get it who just want to cut their hair, not attend Barbizon beauty school.
Not enthused
Luckily I went to the library to rent this before I bought it.TUrns out they give you the option of a. cutting your hair at one length or b. cutting layers that are gunna make it looks like its at one length.
The ideas they give you in the book is basically common sense, nothingI would have thought o fmyself.Oh yeah, and the one chapter is about how you should put your hair in a ponytail and just cut it.. WHO DOES THAT?!
Worked for me
I am very particular about my hair cuts, in all my life (late 30's) I've only been truly happy w/2 of my hair dressers. Both of those were Vidal Sassoon trained. Even though I'm particular about hair cuts, I don't like to spend time styling my hair, it bores me and makes my arms hurt to hold them up so long! So since I moved to a small city where I don't know who to go to and have already had three hair cuts I didn't love and since money is tight I decided to try the methods in this book and all I can say is I'm happy. I have fine thin, very long hair in layers and wispy bangs. Just long feminine hair with layers for fullness and I was able to achieve that effect with the very simple twist and cut methods in this book. I bought the cutting shears at TJ Maxx for $10 and the other stuff at Target and I was set. I could have done without the book but the very good illustrations and explanations gave me confidence. I think my hair looks fine and my husband liked it too. It's not as well done as when I went to my sassoon trained stylist but since she's far away now, and I never liked her manner anyway, this will do for me. I like feeling self sufficient and the book paid for itself already.
