This "little green book," as it has come to be known to hundreds of thousands of C.O.A.'s and A.C.O.A.'s, is meant to help the reader understand the roles children in alcoholic families adopt, the problems they face in adulthood as a result, and what they can do to break the pattern of destruction.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing, eye opening experience!
Never has a book impacted me so deeply and profoundly.I am 35 years old and I never knew such a condition existed much less did I realized I was directly affected by the dysfunction.I have lived the life of the "responsible one" for nearly 20 years and the burden of this obsession/dysfunction finally took its toll.

I highly recommend this book to anyone that remotely thinks they could have lived within an alcoholic family.I am now seeking therapy and I'm looking forward to a much more fulfilling life and becoming the best father possible for my children. This book has helped to stop the destructive cycle associated with ACoA behaviors in my family and I hope others will find it to serve as a rescue device as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Still One of the Best Portals into the ACA Universe
=IWNH2M= may be a bit long in the tooth by modern standards of professional practice because so much has been discovered since it published almost 30 years ago. But it remains -- along with Wotitiz's =Adult Children of Alcoholics= of the same era -- one of the two most effective portals for the family member of the substance abuser.

Black's insights about family roles and the character of the adult child stood up for most of two decades, and even now they are only marginally off the mark compared to the mountains of new research on "insecure," "ambivalent" and "preoccupied" attachment dynamics in dysfunctional families. That Black was asked to provide the introduction to the "big red book" by the international service conference for the rapidly growing 12 Step fellowship of Adult Children of Alcoholics / Dysfuncytional Families is no surprise.

Published in 2007, the "big red book" is =IWNH2M= on steroids, and people are buying it willy nilly and giving copies of it other family members. In my view as a specialist in adults abused a children, that may be too big a pill to swallow for those who aren't ready for it. =IWNH2M= and/or =ACOA= may be much better choices, and thus, much as is the case with Wilson's =Alcoholics Anonymous=, continuing to serve valuable functions in recovery decades after their publication.

The family therapist who tackles an =alcoholic= family seems well-advised to read all three.

I made sure to do all the exercises in the book and itwas the best thing I have ever done. Product Description
Addiction passes through families generationally, and is said to be the "gift that goes on giving."The use of Family Strategies is an opportunity for the gift to become that of recovery, the possibility of changing the individual, the immediate family, and the intergenerational transmission of addictive disorders. Change begins with one person. From a systematic viewpoint, when one person changes the way he or she functions within the family system, that system will change. This is readily evident when addiction enters a family system, and it is just as apparent when recovery enters that system.

In a therapeutic setting it is easy for the practitioner, the addicted person, and the family to view the addicted person as the identified client, the addicted person is the predominant focus. Family Strategies facilitates shifting perspective to the family members as clients. Giving principal consideration to the family system or the primary relationship with the addicted person makes them the focus.

The strategies presented are those proven most effective in primary family systems therapy when addiction is either still active or the addicted person is in early recovery, irrespective of the type of addiction, whether it is substance addiction, behavior, or process addiction.

This workbook is composed of five sections:
· Viewing the Family Addiction
· Stepping Out of the Shadows
· Recognizing the Family Dance
· Developing Emotional Clarity
· Walking the Path of Recovery

A sampling of sessions included are:
· Codependency As An Addiction
· Sharing the Disease
· Giving Up Control
· Role Patterns
· Identifying Boundary Extremes
· Impaired Family
· Portrait of Feelings
· Shame Attacks
· Emotional Sociogram
· Drama Triangle
· Portrait of Recovery
· Codependency First Step

This book is intended for use by clinicians, addiction counselors, and mental health care practitioners who are already skilled in understanding addictive disorders and their impact on families, and those who work with a family member or members in a relationship with someone actively in addiction or in recovery. It is used quite effectively with spouses, partners, parents, and adolescent or adult age children. In many sessions it is appropriate to include the addicted person, but that is at the facilitator’s discretion.

In many of the strategies sections, ideas and formats are presented for structured interventions. The use of handouts in the form of written exercises, checklists, sentence stems, structured dialogues and/or art activities is an integral part of this therapeutic technique. All handouts are designed for clinicians to reproduce and use without restriction as to copyright permission.

The audio CD, Letting Go Imageries, offers meditations on healing and recovery for anyone involved in a troubled family system and it can be used in a group or individual setting. ... Read more

Product Description
When Repeat After Me was first published in the 1980’s,it was a time when adult children of alcoholic families were comingout of the closet by the thousands. Until that time these were peoplewho were silently making their way through adulthood not understandingwhy they were so unsatisfied and unhappy when "everything seemedokay," or why some one thing, person or place "was neverenough." For many there was a chronic gnawing sense that somethingwas missing. This great number of people happily took on the identityof being an ACA or ACOA (Adult Child of Alcoholic). They were gratefulto have a framework in which to understand and conceptualize theirexperience. They had been given a language in which to voice theirexperiences. Yet what was true for this particular population could begeneralized to people from other types of troubled families. They werefrom homes where there were abuses, other addictions, compulsivebehaviors or mental illness — homes that for whatever the reasonswere characterized by loss and shame. Repeat After Me was written inthe spirit of offering all who were raised in troubled families aprocess of self-exploration, insight and healing that would lead to apositive change in their lives.

As adults began that process of asking how their childhood was influencing their present day life, the intent was never one of blame but of insight and understanding. It has been the author’s contention that we repeat the life scripts of our family as a result of internalized beliefs and behaviors that were either modeled for us or were a part of our survivorship. We cannot put a painful past history behind us without first owning it. It is not enough to say I came from an alcoholic family or an abusive family. We must go beyond that acknowledgment to see how our internalized beliefs and behaviors have shaped us to be the person we are today. With that in mind Repeat After Me was written.

Repeat After Me is not a book that explains how problems come to be asmuch as it is a book that takes you through a process of letting go ofhurtful beliefs and behaviors. While insight is often the precursor tochange, insight alone is not enough for most people to createchange. People need to believe they deserve positive change and theyneed to develop skills that make change occur. While many of thechanges in this second edition of Repeat After Me are subtle, it iswritten to support the reader’s belief in their personal worth andassist them in identifying and focusing on skills. The knowledge thatcomes in owning the past and connecting it to the present is vital todeveloping empathy for the strength of both our defenses andskills. It also helps us to lessen our shame and not hold ourselvesaccountable for the pain we have carried. When we understand thereasons for why we have lived our life as we have, that understandingfuels our ongoing healing. The change we want to create in our lifeis made most directly as a result of letting go of old, hurtful beliefsystems and learning new skills. Repeat After Me guides you in thisprocess. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars great resource
This is probably the best tool of its type that I've seen for identifying significant past influences on current behavior and feelings, and for identifying effective strategies for addressing and dealing with those often limiting feelings and ingrained behaviors.I recommend it to all who are serious about freeing themselves from the constraints of a less than perfect past and creating a healthier, richer, emotionally freer future.

5-0 out of 5 stars An exceptional tool for ACOA's.
This is an excellent book to aid therspists or individuals to continue to move forward in becoming aware of how their family system affected them. This is really the first step in recovery.I love this book!

4-0 out of 5 stars I recommend this book, but....
I was recommended this book by my psychologist. It is a work book for the adult children of alcoholic parents.
By work book, I mean there are exercises to complete which force you to remember things you had long ago either forgotten or shoved aside, and it can be a fairly painful and difficult process.I have to attempt the exercises in small steps, because it makes me an emotional wasteland for a while after. Some of the tasks include, family tree, event recollection, and assessing your own emotions.
So far, I haven't gotten much from the book, it seems to give you many, um, excuses as to why we feel the way we do, behave the way we do and view the world differently from the so-called "normal" people.I am not very keen on the feeling I get from this book of being a victim.Though, as helpless children forced to grow up in abusive situations, we are victims, but as adults, we've moved beyond the victim role into something else. While it's not exactly mentally healthy to repress, it is our way of coping with our past.Forcing all the pain from our past to the surface is excruciating, and I met it with a lot of resistance. It takes time, and I urge you, as awful as the initial feelings are, don't give up, grit your teeth, and proceed.
I suggest that if you feel this book may help you in some capacity, use it in conjunction with professional therapy of some type, as it helps to have someone view your answers and talk about them with you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just for Class
I have not read this book, as it is just for my class, and we have not been assigned any part of it, as of this writing. So, I can not review it. Besides, I do would not write a review for a textbook.

5-0 out of 5 stars Repeat After Me is worth the money
This book contains some nice information and is a worthwhile read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still relevent after all these years.
This book was given to me by my Aunt in my late teens and I have appreciated it ever since.Growing up in a family of alcoholics and abusers, you always know you're different but it's hard to articulate how or why.My Aunt is a recovering alcoholic and drug addict and reached out to me as she knew my mother was never going to get help and it's important for those affected by addicts to klnow how to better themselves and break the cycle that is created.

This book gave me tools to articulate and reapir years of damage and knowledge I needed to help heal the wounds. It gievs tremendous insight to the different personalities that develop in a dysfunctional environment and how to stop your behavior from painting you into the mold which you are so hard trying to break free of.

There are a lot of books today that cover these topics and lots of new perspectives on the topic. My opnion though is that this book, while over 20 years old, is still relevent, and still able to help someone like me who so desperatly wanted to make sure it would never happen to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars best book for children of alcoholics

Product Description

For 20 years, parents who are recovering from addictions have been asking Claudia Black to write this book. Whether they sobered up last year or 15 years ago, there comes a time when they have questions on what to tell their kids about their past addiction. Dr. Black introduces five very different families and reveals how the parents in each family talked to their kids about recovery, relapse and the child's own vulnerability to drug and alcohol addiction.

Discussion tips and easy-to-understand facts are shared in boxed sections to help parents focus in on key issues. Topics addressed include:

  • The basic healing messages that young children need to hear if parents who have recently sobered up are raising them.
  • How to talk to adolescents, teens and grown children about the basic characteristics of addiction, including denial, preoccupation, loss of control, change in tolerance and withdrawal.
  • How to discuss genetic and environmental influences that can contribute to becoming chemically dependent, including the latest brain chemistry research.
  • How parents in early recovery can begin making amends and building sober relationships with their children, whether the children are young or grown.
  • Age-appropriate strategies to reduce a child's risks for experimenting with drugs and alcohol.

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, not what I expected
The description of this book states it's for parents "whether they sobered up last year or 15 years ago".
The introduction says it will address families whose children were not affected by the addiction as well as those who were. It doesn't.
I got this book in the hopes it would help me with whether and how to talk to my kids about my addiction. It didn't.
I've been clean and sober for 15 years now and it's time to talk to my preteen kids before they get into the same trouble I did. Unfortunately this book focuses only on parents whose kids have suffered due to their addictions and not at all on those whose addictions predate their kids.
It may be a good book for some, but it wasn't at all what I was looking for.

5-0 out of 5 stars What Recovering Parents Should Tell Their Kids
Black, an addiction expert known for her work on the adult children of alcoholics (It Will Never Happen to Me), here shifts her focus to recovering parents, in turn addressing the needs of their children. Based on the sensible idea that parents struggling with addiction face unique challenges in fostering antidrug/alcohol attitudes, her latest book acknowledges the genetic component of addiction while stating that the process is not inevitable. Provided are useful tools for assessment (e.g., "the family tree") and remediation grounded in the 12-step program philosophy. Early chapters review current information on brain chemistry, generational vulnerability, and phenomena such as multiple addictions, tolerance levels, relapse, and blackouts. The emphasis then moves to straightforward and realistic advice about self-forgiveness, making amends for past behavior, and new ways of relating to loved ones. Personal stories drawn from five diverse families are used throughout; limited references are provided at the conclusion. This candid and hope-filled book merits strong consideration by large public libraries and specialized collections given the prevalence of some form of addictive behavior in families. ... Read more

Product Description
The basic premise of this book is that chemical dependency is a disease; the alcoholic/addict is a sick person not a bad person. This disease affects not only the addicted person but those who love that person as well. This is a book that will help others affected by chemical dependency to become well.

My Dad Loves Me My Dad Has A Disease was originally written as a result of Claudia Black's work with young people who had a parent in treatment for their alcoholism. These children were learning at a very young age that it was not safe for them to openly talk about their family experiences. Art therapy was a wonderful medium for them to find the words and a voice in which to talk honestly. It was also a wonderful tool in which to not only share feelings but to problem solve, lessen denial, and to put words to that which was so confusing.

The original pictures were all drawn and the stories written by children age five through fourteen that had one or two alcoholic parents. After many years and thousands of children using this workbook, it has been revised to address the fact that today, if a child lives with addiction, it may not be alcohol addiction. The family member may be addicted to other drugs as well. Words have been rewritten, some pictures changed and new pictures added making it possible for more children of addiction to experience their own recovery process.

Many years ago when Claudia Black was a counselor in an alcohol and drug treatment program, she asked a six-year-old daughter of a man in treatment for his addiction if she knew why her father was in this program. The girl paused and with confidence said, My Dad Loves Me, but My Dad Has a Disease. In spite of her father's addiction she knew her father loved her. That is a message Claudia would like all young people to be able to believe. Unfortunately when people are addicted they often lose the ability to act in loving ways toward those they love.Growing up in an addicted family usually means living by the rule: it is not all right to talk about the drinking or using in your family. Having been raised in an alcoholic family herself, by the age of six Claudia shared the feelings of loneliness, fear and frustration of her family.

Working through the loneliness, fear and frustration by expressing feelings is what this book is all about. This workbook gives children age 5 - 12 the opportunity to share their thoughts and feelings and to better understand addiction.

Although this workbook was designed for and the illustrations created by young children, it may also hold insights for the now adult age person raised in an addictive home. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars My Dad Loves Me, My Dad Has a Disease
Book is a bit in depth for younger children (4-6).Illustrations and problem solving situations are good but not for the age group I had intended to use it for. Will keep the book as it may be a good read later down the road. The book relates to "diseases" which include drug, alcohol, etc.Again - a good book with illustrations and problem solving.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not what I'm looking for
This book is very good, but I am looking for a book that explains what addiction is to a small child.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
I received this book when I was a teenager. At the time, my mother was married to a drug addict and one of the counselors at the treatment program recommended it.Also, those many years ago, it only applied to alcoholics. I found it to be a very, very helpful book.Seeing my own experiences through the eyes of much younger children really helped me to understand what I was going through and not feel alone.I am so happy to see that it has been updated to include drug addiction and mothers.I know this book will continue to make a valuable impact on the lives of many children.

Product Description

Pornography, cybersex, prostitutes, voyeurism, multiple affairs. No matter the 'drug' of choice, men who act out sexually leave their partners reeling in fear, rage, incredible shame, and isolation. Deceived was written expressly to help these women better understand what is happening in their lives, garner validation for their experiences, and find a path that offers clarity, direction, and voice.

Bestselling author Claudia Black guides readers to understand aspects of their personal histories that have lead them to be in relationships plagued by sexual betrayal, and reveals how their partner's behavior can be as addictive as a drug. Black then outlines proactive steps that readers can take to build healthier relationships and take care of themselves, illustrated by accounts of real women who have done so successfully. 4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not what I needed...
I ordered this book after divorcing my now ex-husband for adultery. I thought it would be about recoving from sexual betrayal (adultery), as the title states. However, it is a book about sexual addiction. I would not classify my ex-husband as a sex addict after reading the entire book, so most of it was not applicable. Although it did have some content that helped me, all in all, I wish it would have something about sex addiction in the title to more clearly state what this book is mainly about.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well done book
As I have gone through my healing, this book gave me understanding I needed. Dr Black gave words for my experiences. I wish I had read this book a few years ago earlier in my healing. A difficult subject handled with care.

5-0 out of 5 stars amazing and helpful book
If you are a woman, and feel betrayed or deceived and feel like no one will understand or knows how you feel; You need to read this book, you will not feel all alone any longer. The honesty and accuracy in which it is written just shocked and amazed me. No one wants to talk about this hurtful subject. It just helps to know you are not crazy, and not alone. Warning though; do not read in a public place! You will cry. I have a friend who has also gone through similar trials, I bought her a copy.

Relationships
Anger
Priorities
Plus many more...

This book is written in a style that allows the reader to skip to the various themes which explore issues that one identifies to be a priority. This book is not meant to be a program of recovery, but to be used as an additional tool for recovery.

I walk down the street
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
I fall in
I am lost - I am helpless
It isn't my fault
It takes forever to find a way out

I walk down the same street
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
I pretend I don't see it
I fall in again
I can't believe I am in the same place
But it isn't my fault
It still takes a long time to get out

I walk down the same street
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
I see it is there
I still fall in-it's a habit
My eyes are open
I know where I am
It is my fault
I get out immediately

I walk down the same street
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
I walk around it

I walk down another street

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT recovery resource
This is a great resource applicable to recovery from any kind of addictive behavior. With 29 sections, it works well for an intensive one-a-day structured format for focused attention to relapse prevention.Very readable and engaging, it covers all aspects of relapse mindsets in a memorable and individualized way.For those needing to address multiple addictions, it is helpful to identify interactions and substitutions among various behaviors in order to extricate yourself from the web.For example, addictive behaviors may manifest in relation to pornography, alcohol, illegal and prescription drug use, sexual issues, eating, exercise, shopping, codependent relationships.Just when you think you have your addiction under control, it pops up as another aspect of your life.Knowing how to feel good about "walking down another street" while still on the alert for other "deep holes" is essential. As counselors, we find this to be a great resource for arming clients with an overview to achieve - and the insight to maintain their own unique recovery - while pursuing healing from destructive root issues through cultivation of intentionally authentic, nurturing relationships.More at [...] ... Product Description

In Left of Karl Marx, Carole Boyce Davies assesses the activism, writing, and legacy of Claudia Jones (1915–1964), a pioneering Afro-Caribbean radical intellectual, dedicated communist, and feminist. Jones is buried in London’s Highgate Cemetery, to the left of Karl Marx—a location that Boyce Davies finds fitting given how Jones expanded Marxism-Leninism to incorporate gender and race in her political critique and activism.

Claudia Cumberbatch Jones was born in Trinidad. In 1924, she moved to New York, where she lived for the next thirty years. She was active in the Communist Party from her early twenties onward. A talented writer and speaker, she traveled throughout the United States lecturing and organizing. In the early 1950s, she wrote a well-known column, “Half the World,” for the Daily Worker. As the U.S. government intensified its efforts to prosecute communists, Jones was arrested several times. She served nearly a year in a U.S. prison before being deported and given asylum by Great Britain in 1955. There she founded The West Indian Gazette and Afro-Asian Caribbean News and the Caribbean Carnival, an annual London festival that continues today as the Notting Hill Carnival. Boyce Davies examines Jones’s thought and journalism, her political and community organizing, and poetry that the activist wrote while she was imprisoned. Looking at the contents of the FBI file on Jones, Boyce Davies contrasts Jones’s own narration of her life with the federal government’s. Left of Karl Marx establishes Jones as a significant figure within Caribbean intellectual traditions, black U.S. feminism, and the history of communism.

5-0 out of 5 stars Indispensable
Carole Boyce Davies delivers a stunner in Left of Karl Marx, a deft and thorough analytical treatment of the political life of Claudia Jones, "Black Woman Communist of West Indian Descent."Neither Pan-Africanism nor Black Women's Studies can begin to do without this book, not to mention a host of other fields and constituencies. It brilliantly performs the task of resurrection made intellectually necessary when the status-quo takes such important figures away from us and then tries to erase their memory, to boot.

We should not be forced to think and struggle in ignorance of Claudia Jones, and now we certainly don't have to with such a powerful and impressive study.

Critically, Boyce Davies treats not just the politics of diaspora, but deportation as well;not just "political" activism, but cultural activism (such as Carnival) as well;not just bookish intellectual production, only, but polemics, speeches and journalism (in the spirit of Ida B. Wells) as well;not just "women's rights" or "worker's rights" or the rights of colonized peoples, but all of the aforementioned and then some.Perhaps most crucially, she recovers the "radical Black female subject" in a fashion that immediately calls for pretenders to the titles of "radical," "Black," etc.," to walk the walk talked and walked by Claudia Vera Cumberbatch Jones.

5-0 out of 5 stars carole boyce davies--the radical black subject rocking intellectual life
This is what intellectual life is all about...Carole Boyce Davies *rocks* our understanding of the left, black feminism, transnationalism, and more. Boyce Davies carefully re-narrates the life of black communist, activist-intellectual Claudia Jones--identifying Jones' political and creative struggles as a black woman who *radically* hopes for, strategizes, thinks through, a *just* future and was thus consequently rendered a punishable, deportable, subject...

These women, these ideas--Carole Boyce Davies, Claudia Jones, Left of Karl Marx--are what intellectual life is all about.Inspiring and challenging...

Product Description
The Stamp Game is an innovative tool for helping people identify and express feelings. Devised by Claudia Black, Ph.D., the game has been used for over twenty years in a wide range of settings ranging from family and therapeutic environments, student and employee assistance programs, schools, mental health facilities, to addiction counselors and private practitioners working with groups and individuals. The game is appropriate for people of all ages children adolescents adults.

The purpose of the Stamp Game is to help players to better identify, clarify, and discuss feelings. Players will be able to relate more honestly to others as they learn to express feelings. As a result, players become more effective problem-solvers and the identification and expression of feelings brings clarity to players needs, which in turn leads to enhanced self-esteem. The game is a wonderful tool to equalize those who use words as a defense but have difficulty being emotionally honest, and for those who have great difficulty being articulate on any level. Playing The Stamp Game is a novel, fun and meaningful way for players to learn about themselves and each other.

The Game consists of 100 of each colored card (stamps). The stamps name seven predominant feelings, plus one unspecified, Anger, Fear, Happiness, Confusion, Guilt, Sadness, Embarrassment and a Wild Card. This game is not limited to the seven designated feelings. Each color represents a continuum of the specific feeling printed on the stamp.

Therefore: Red stamps = anger, rage, frustration, irritation, disgust, annoyance, resentment, intolerance, exasperation, etc.
Blue stamps = sadness, disappointment, loss, hurt, grief, misery, dissatisfaction, etc.
Black stamps = fear, terror, dread, anxiety, panic, shock, horror, etc.
Orange stamps = guilt, shame, remorse, regret, disgrace, etc.
Green stamps = embarrassment, humiliation, envy, jealousy, etc.
Yellow stamps = happiness, joy, love, gratitude, affection, peace, serenity, etc.
Brown stamps = confusion, uncertainty, misunderstanding, bewilderment, indecision, etc.
White stamps (Wild Cards) = any feeling not represented by another color stamp that the player wants to identify, such as loneliness, helplessness, powerlessness, etc.
The possibilities are as individual as the players.

General Directions Players sit in a circle, or if only two people they sit across from each other. Stamps (colored cards) are placed in the center of the circle and in piles according to color. Players pick up stamps that represent their feelings. The more intense the feeling the more stamps a player will pick up. Players position their stamps in the order representing which of their feelings are most visible/most aware of down to those that are least visible/kept hidden. Players take turns sharing their feelings in relation to their stamps and the feeling presented. Other players offer feedback when player sharing finishes. This is optional.

The Instruction Booklet offers a variety of ways and settings to use the game and the stamps. The general directions for playing the game are only guidelines. The game is meant to be a tool. Claudia encourages players and facilitators to create and develop additional ways and settings to use the game. Express yourself and enjoy the process.

One game is adequate to use with one to eight players and a facilitator. For use with more than ten players it is recommended that two games be used and mini-groups may be formed. For example: a group of ten players is divided into two five-player groups; a group of twelve players is divided into two six-player groups. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Stamp Game
The Stamp Game is a very user-friendly tool for both clients and clinicians. It might appear to just be a game, but it is far more than that. The value of using the game is that it puts people at ease and is a non-threatening way to open up to feelings that are hard to express.A must for every clinician's tool kit!

5-0 out of 5 stars Schools using this game
Some of our schools are using this game with the kids. With all that our kids have to deal with these days - changes in their families, bullying, the pressure to excell, depression - and a host of other things, they don't seem to be getting a healthy opportunity to identify and express their feelings but this game gives them just that. The teachers and counselors are noticing it's making a difference for many of the kids and the kids are loving the game. Every school should be using this game!

5-0 out of 5 stars Stamp Game Success
As a clinician I have been using the Stamp Game for the past two years in my agency and have introduced it to all of my colleagues. It is simple in structure but profound in impact.I use it with couples, with families or I use it individually. So many people struggle talking about feelings and this makes it safe and direct. You don't use it only once, it's greatest value is in using it as a constant tool.

The Stamp Game WORKS!!!

Product Description
This text examines the intersections of race and gender in framing black mothers' emotional and behavioural responses to the sexual abuse of their children. Based on research with non-abusing black mothers, the effects of the abuse on mothers' parenting are posited to analyze the particular ways their mothering roles are impacted in the aftermath of abuse. It presents a black feminist investigation to critically evaluate the complexities for mothers. Developing a paradigm that is grounded in an understanding of gendered power relationships within black families, the book explores the implications for black mothers' help-seeking and protective strategies. Arguing that children's safety and long-term emotional needs can be enhanced by effective intervention with non-abusing mothers, the identification of risk situations for black children is discussed. The book offers an innovative perspective to expand understanding of the effects of child sexual abuse in black families. ... Read more
