1-0 out of 5 stars If research is new to you and this is your required text...good luck.
If you want a book that will explain nursing research in the most confusing way possible, you should get this book. The review questionson the CD help a good bit, but the book's explanations of terms and principles couldn't be more confusing. Throughout the reading they try to use "$10 dollar" words instead of simple understandable words that mean the same thing to describe very complex terms/principles. This just adds to the headache of trying to understand these terms/principles. The study guide book is useless. It uses crossword puzzles for each chapter review...yeah crossword puzzles. So you go from one extreme of usingnot-every-day words to the other of using 4 year-old games to explain stuff. I heard the next edition is going to have some connect-the-dots for us to do.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nursing research introduction
This book was easy to follow. It made my class and online work easy to manage. Great for beginners. I found it to be very informative.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great guide
I purchased this book from Amazon. It was way cheaper than the price in the bookstore at my university and it was brand new! I received the book fast and in excellent condition. Definitely a great buy and I would recommend others to purchase this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars No need for words...
Having seen most of the photoessay/story/travel fly fishing books of the past 10-15 years, I have to say that this one is by far the best. The book is filled with world-class photos from some of the most beautiful fly fishing locations, both freshwater and salwater. When reading this book, you are not longing for any long fishing stories (most of which are published earlier somewhere else anyway) and you don't want to see a list of guides or lodges (you can find them easily from the web). The pictures with short comments are enough. I have seen some books that have five excellent shots from a particular place, but this one has tens for each of the destinations. Unbelievable book. I have to buy a bunch of these as gifts for my friends, for fly fishermen and for non-fly fishermen alike. Then I will pay a visit to my bank manager and hope that he will still loan my some money, because after getting this book, I have already started to pack my rods and reels... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tried and Proven
My son is 34 years old.I happened upon the book when he was - oh - two.We used many of the suggestions in the book in raising him, and I really believe it was instrumental in his development. He grew up to be outstanding in music (played with a professional orchestra since before he was 12), academics - presidential scholar (one of 120 each year for the entire USA),graduated with honors in computer sciences from an ivy-league school and went on to grad school to become an architect because he didn't want to spend his life in front of a computer. He is also one of the most moral and socially adept people I know.
Some of the most memorable advice in the book - if your child is bright, don't try to have him skip grades, but develop his lateral skills.Invaluable! Also, a good toy is 5% toy and 95% child.(Saved us a lot of cash too!)I can't thank Ms. Beck enough.
I am very excited to see there's a new edition to the book and am purchasing it for my future grandkid(s), since my son got married last summer to a lovely woman.

5-0 out of 5 stars Important book for parents of young children
When our children were born, (nearly 30 years ago), we were fortunate enough to have readthis book. The things we learned are timeless, as valuable today as they were then. For years, we've giventhe book as gifts to nieces and nephews, explaining that nothing will guarantee that their wonderful little offspring will grow up to be a genius, but that knowing how to stimulate the growing mind has real value and is definitelyworth the effort. A properly stimulated child is generally a happy child

I continue to recommend this book to new parents, including my own children who now have children of their own.

5-0 out of 5 stars It Worked for Us
I read this book when my son was 2.He's now 27 and just graduated with a PhD in Electrical Engineering. Now I'm buying him a copy for his first child.

1-0 out of 5 stars Read "UNDER PRESSURE: Rescuing our Children from the Culture of Hyperparenting" instead
Instead of reading this book, read UNDER PRESSURE instead.Further discussion as to why not to read this title is then self explanatory.

5-0 out of 5 stars 20 Years Later - One of the best books we bought after we had our first child
Our first son was born in 1988. Shortly after, we bought this book. It was the best combination of real research and common sense we've read regarding child development. Bottom Line: those early years are absolutely critical, and there are a number of things you can and should do (not to be confused with "pushy" parents). I am very proud to give this book as a gift to new parents; I'm certain they will thank me for sharing some of the best insights that informed our parenting. ... Read more

    Product Description
Religion posits one characteristic as an absolute: faith. Compared to faith, all other social distinctions and sources of conflict are insignificant. The New Testament says: ‘We are all equal in the sight of God'. To be sure, this equality applies only to those who acknowledge God's existence. What this means is that alongside the abolition of class and nation within the community of believers, religion introduces a new fundamental distinction into the world the distinction between the right kind of believers and the wrong kind. Thus overtly or tacitly, religion brings with it the demonization of believers in other faiths.

The central question that will decide the continued existence of humanity is this: How can we conceive of a type of inter-religious tolerance in which loving one's neighbor does not imply war to the death, a type of tolerance whose goal is not truth but peace?

Is what we are experiencing at present a regression of monotheistic religion to a polytheism of the religious spirit under the heading of ‘a God of one's own'? In Western societies, where the autonomy of the individual has been internalized, individual human beings tend to feel increasingly at liberty to tell themselves little faith stories that fit their own lives to appoint ‘Gods of their own'. However, this God of
their own is no longer the one and only God who presides over salvation by seizing control of history and empowering his followers to be intolerant and use naked force.

I have always had a fascination for the North Star, but now I see it is more than fascination...it's direction. My favorite part of this book is the quote: "Spend as much time as possible with people who support your true self.Spend as little time as possible with those who don't."Martha Beck shows you the beauty and guides you to your essential self.A gem of a book!

1-0 out of 5 stars disappointed
When this booklet arrived I was stunned by its small size. It is not worth the price I paid, I found it very disappointing. Nowhere in the description of this product does it mention its miniature size! Seems that should have been mentioned to keep the purchasers from feeling gypped when it arrives.

5-0 out of 5 stars spiral dynamics
I eagerly awaited this book.It came highly recommended and as I wade through the pages I am glad I bought it.It will serve as relaxation for me for a long time

5-0 out of 5 stars You must read this!
I'll put it simply: If everyone in the world who was literate and of above average intelligence read this book it would dramatically change the world for the better. Ken Wilber refers to this book frequently, but although Wilber has a much broader scope (or maybe because he covers so much), Spiral Dynamics actually explains human psychology much more simply and to the point than Wilber does. I've read a great deal about personality types and psychological development, etc. and yet the irrationality of my family and humanity still frustrated the heck out of me. This analysis of world views and the value system of each finally brought me some mental peace. I wish I had read this when I was 20. Like Thomas Kuhn's Structure of Scientific Revolutions (which introduced the concept of paradigm), this is a milestone of progress is how to think about almost everything.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read for Ken Wilber fans
The material in Spiral Dynamics is essential for anyone who wants to understand the positive and negative patterns of groups of people. This book explains why people are the way they are, and has helped me to pinpoint where I need to change, as well as to value my current understanding, my perspective, of the world. Because of it, I can easily let go of puzzling over the invincibly ignorant.

This book is clunky in much of its writing, and much of it is not polished. However, the information is liberating, and the last few chapters describing each meme in detail are well done.

I have read many of Ken Wilber's books and find Spiral Dynamics to be a necessary complement to his works.

4-0 out of 5 stars Loved it, changed the world for me.
I could go on and on about the insight I gained reading this book. Beck gets a bit heady at times and I got lost, but for 80% of the book I was tuned in and learning. He uses loads of examples to illustrate his ideas and this held my attention.

This book is not so much a philosophy, but a human management book. The management of change he details can be applied to one person, a family, a church, businesses large and small, governments, unions etc. I can now look at the media in the US and see right into values of the talking heads. It makes ideology transparent, and helps explain motivations for behaviors and beliefs that seem irrational.

If your interested in understanding what all the change is about in our post modern world, this book will help.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quite a tool to use for the future.
Spiral Dynamics has proven to be used by our church members as the future is contemplated and planning for the future. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Useful, Informative and FUN!!!
I LOVE this book! The photographs are exceptional and the informational text is thorough and easy to understand. My husband and I have found it MOST HELPFUL in identifying the many mysterious "critters" crawling and flying around the ranch and garden. We've also used it to learn much, much more about the common "critters" we already knew. The anecdotal stories and sidebars add to the 'entertainment factor' and the 'practical knowledge factor'.The grandkids have had a blast with it and I foresee many interesting "show-and-tell" days ahead!I highly recommend it!!

2-0 out of 5 stars It's not about bugs...
This book has some nice pictures and interesting stories, but it's not a bug book, it's an organic gardening book. Wish I had known that, because although I think organic gardening is wonderful, I'm not a gardener. I just wanted to learn about Texas bugs! Was that too much to ask?

4-0 out of 5 stars Everything about bugs
This book has helped me identify the bugs that either are helpful or harmful. It says weather toattack them or to nurture them, and how to do both.Bugs are listed in alphabetical order though and if you don't know what it is you will need to go through the book a page at a time. Perhaps a thumbnail picture index would be helpful in narrowing down the critters.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have for veggie gardeners in Central Texas!
I first saw this book at my local nursery; it is what the master gardener there used to identify the Harlequin bugs that I'd brought in that were destroying my lettuce. I later checked it out from the library several times. Whenever I returned it, I found I needed it again!

This book is well written, extremely informative, and best of all - it offers only organic and biological solutions to your problem bugs: NO PESTICIDES! Did you know that many fire ant mounds can be detroyed simply by pouring a large pot of boiling water over them? The full color photographs allowed me to easily identify nearly every notable bug in my garden, and it includes both "bad" bugs and beneficial ones.

My two-year-old daughter also loves identifying the bugs she finds with this book. Buy this book - your Central Texas garden will be better for it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Constantly using this reference
I encouter bugs on a fairly regular basis.I have learned alot in the short while I've had it.I purchased it in conjunction with the Texas Organic Gardening book by the same author. The other book goes fairly quickly over the main bugs, but this one has better pictures from which to identify the critters, and has much more information about the benefits and damages the bugs can do.The only things I feel are missing are the average lifespan, if the critter survives freezing conditions, and a section specific to the critters that are poisonous or dangerous to humans. Money well spent in my opinion. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Truth is Fantastic Book as good as the Album by Jeff Beck
Now that I have your attention: Truth is the definitive book about Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart, including the Yardbirds, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Keith Relf, Peter Grant, Mickie Most, etc. This is an amazing book! and I've read hundreds of rock books. Dave Thompson, the author did a masterful job weaving everything into place. There is so much information that you are amazed he could piece it together so well.

And while I love Jeff I'm not really a fan of his or Rod. But I loved this book!!! It really is that good. In fact it's so good, I took out my Jeff Beck bootleg from 1968 and listened to it again first time in years and heard what Dave talks about.

This book is wonderful because it gives you a real feel of the times. Jimi Hendrix and Beck were hanging out jamming in NY with a bunch of other people. The quotes are rare and lots of new ones. Jeff can be so candid with his thoughts. And did Led Zeppelin steal JBG's sound? It's all in this informative, dense book. The pages are filled from top to bottom and I really enjoyed reading it. I had to force myself to read slower in order to enjoy it more. Most rock books are the same old thing about drugs and orgies etc but this was different. It also talked about the genius, crazy, bossy, egomaniac that is Jeff Beck at least back then.

Great book thank you Dave Thompson. I highly recommend this book. Now go out and buy the CD why don't you.

5-0 out of 5 stars The definitive Beck biography, as it stands.
Thankfully when the time finally came around for someone to write
the 'Jeff Beck Story'-style biography, it was an excellent writer from the U.K., in that it was Dave Thompson. He's done a few books on the subject of music/musicians including a very good one on Cream. This one's no exception.....it's factual, accurate, easy to read, never slow or boring, and even has a sense of humor. Some nice pages of photos too, for those of you who like pictures(I do).
In short, buy the book.Between Truth and the fantastic Jeff's Book
by Christopher Hjort & Doug Hinman (a masterfully compiled and greatly detailed 'timeline'......and sadly, out of print now) you'll be set for life! ... Read more

WHAT WENT WRONG WITH AMERICA … AND HOW TO FIX IT:RECLAIMING THE POWER THAT RIGHTFULLY BELONGS TO YOU

    By Darrell Ankarlo

In What Went Wrong with America … And How to Fix It, radio host Darrell Ankarlo identifies the key elements of how our society is rotting from within, mostly due to an uninformed and uninvolved citizenry that has allowed it to happen. Providing inspiration from the Founding Fathers and modern American movements, he shows how he has used the platform of his radio show to inform his listeners and encourage them to get involved in their communities.

In order to encourage citizens to use the power they already have, he provides a practical road map for ordinary Americans to follow in making their voices heard. He equips readers to change the pattern of disengagement by utilizing broadcast and print media to spread their messages, organize rallies and protests, and become involved in the political system. He encourages people to engage in effective letter-writing and e-mail campaigns to rally support for their ideas, even to the point of running for elected office if necessary.

Find out how one talk-radio host who loves his country and its troops organized a massive demonstration of support for the American military and sparked a nationwide movement of pro-American, pro-troop rallies. These achievements were accomplished by average Americans who took the time to make a difference. What Went Wrong with America … And How to Fix It provides the tools necessary for anyone who cares about the future of the nation and wants to make a big difference on the local, state, and national level. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars "What Went Wrong With this Book . . ."
As one who would rather read good, conservative literature than watch the tube, this book was thoroughly disappointing. The concepts presented were simplistic, poorly researched and largely self-serving. Mr. Ankarlo should have worded the title as: "The World According to Me". I should have known that this book was going to be so full of self-promotion by the fact that Mr. Ankarlo has a large picture of himself on the front cover and a full length picture of himself on the back cover as well. Even though I agree with much of what Mr. Ankarlo presents, the lack of depth and sophomoric language rendered the book largely unreadable. Being a huge fan of Glenn Beck, I bought this book in large measure because he wrote the "Foreword". It turns out the "Foreword" was the only redeeming feature of the book. I will continue to be a fan of Glenn Beck, but I will think twice about purchasing books of other authors he endorses.

    1-0 out of 5 stars It's TERR-ible....
Ankarlo practically advocates execution of anyone who disagrees with his viewpoints. He especially hates Jews, Catholics, Blacks, Asians, and Hispanics. And he exploits his son's service in the military for his own financial gain. His book is an advertisement to buy his book, advising readers that they can reach idealogical nirvana if they sleep in a bathtub full of his books.

Why do you hate America so much, Mr. Ankarlo? Why do you want to burn the City of Boston to the ground? Every time you open your mouth, George W. Bush weeps. Every time you congratulate yourself for your son's military service, McCain cringes. Every time you mention your book on your show, Cheney nearly has another heart attack. And, yes, when you espouse your "the Republic must fall" viewpoints, even Ann Coulter blushes.

Save us all the trouble and stay in your bunker without a laptop - so you CAN'T write another piece of garbage.

5-0 out of 5 stars More of the same....Thank God!
This is the most detailed and highly researched (and sourced) book I have ever read!I listen to Darrell Ankarlo daily on 570 KLIF in DFW.I'm glad to see that his book is of the same great quality that his daily morning show is.Darrell has changed my life over the course of the last few years. He has opened my eyes to what is going on around me, and is a constant motivator to me and the rest of his audience.Darrell leads by example and encourages others to lead their charge as well.I truly believe the "nay-sayers" whom I see commenting on this book just don't get it!

5-0 out of 5 stars MUST HAVE FOR EVERY AMERICAN
This book will open your eyes as to what is really wrong with America and give you ideas as to how you can fix it on your own. Truly inspirational you will laugh, cry, and cheer while reading this book. Give a listen to the web cast of Mr. Ankarlo off the KLIF site if you need an indication of what is in the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for Conservatives
For anyone who truly wants to make a difference in this country, are concerned about those who are eroding the American way life, and want to stand up for what is right, this book is a must read.I just read it and feel empowered as a single citizen to be able do something!Darrell Ankarlo says everything that has been on my mind for years but I couldn't effectively put into words and didn't know what to do about it.Now I do.This book has given me a reason to stand up and be counted in a more visible way to save the country I love from those who would tear down the moral fiber on which it was built. It will shock you, encourage you, and even bring you to tears in places. But it goes beyond that; it gives detailed, practical ways to use your talents to help this great nation.
If conservatives want to save a rapidly deteriorating country, they must get involved--and quickly. This book tells them how. There is power in one person with conviction standing up for what is right; even more so if two, or three, or a thousand stand together. Please read it--and get involved! ... Product Description

Today we are politically polarized as never before. The presidential elections of 2000 and 2004 will be remembered as two of the most contentious political events in American history. Yet despite the recent election upheaval, The American Voter Revisited discovers that voter behavior has been remarkably consistent over the last half century. And if the authors are correct in their predictions, 2008 will show just how reliably the American voter weighs in, election after election.

The American Voter Revisited re-creates the outstanding 1960 classic The American Voter---which was based on the presidential elections of 1952 and 1956---following the same format, theory, and mode of analysis as the original. In this new volume, the authors test the ideas and methods of the original against presidential election surveys from 2000 and 2004. Surprisingly, the contemporary American voter is found to behave politically much like voters of the 1950s.

"Simply essential. For generations, serious students of American politics have kept The American Voter right on their desk. Now, everyone will keep The American Voter Revisited right next to it."
---Larry J. Sabato, Director of the University of Virginia Center for Politics and author of A More Perfect Constitution

"The American Voter Revisited is destined to be the definitive volume on American electoral behavior for decades. It is a timely book for 2008, with in-depth analyses of the 2000 and 2004 elections updating and extending the findings of the original The American Voter. It is also quite accessible, making it ideal for graduate students as well as advanced undergrads."
---Andrew E. Smith, Director of the University of New Hampshire Survey Center

"A theoretically faithful, empirically innovative, comprehensive update of the original classic."
---Sam Popkin, Professor of Political Science, University of California, San Diego

Michael S. Lewis-Beck is F. Wendell Miller Distinguished Professor of Political Science at the University of Iowa. William G. Jacoby is Professor of Political Science at Michigan State University. Helmut Norpoth is Professor of Political Science at Stony Brook University. Herbert F. 5-0 out of 5 stars A modern classic in voting behavior
"The American Voter" was a genuine classic in the study of voting behavior. Authored by Angus Campbell, Philip Converse, Warren Miller, and Donald Stokes, the focus of the book was on the factors affecting citizens' voting in the 1952 and 1956 elections. One great challenge was analyzing survey research data BEFORE the advent of computers. Contemporary statistical techniques were simply not fully available.

This book, in essence, replicates the approach of the original volume, with a focus on the 2000 and 2004 elections. Rather than using contemporary statistical approaches, hey adopt much the same analytical practices as the original volume.

They also adopt the metaphorical perspective of Campbell, Converse, Miller, and Stokes, the "funnel of causality." Background factors, such as social and demographic factors are the wide part of the funnel. Closer to the actual vote? Party identification. Then, contemporaneous with the campaign--issues of the day and the candidates themselves. Chapter by chapter, the researchers explore how these affect vote choices in 2000 and 2004. One clear funding--a key reason Democrats lost both elections is that voters didn't much like their two candidates--Al Gore and John Kerry.

The final substantive chapter considers the importance of voting for democracy. It could have been more data driven; as it stands it is rather theoretical and abstract. Finally, a discussion of the factors involved in the outcomes of the elections of 1952, 1956, 2000, and 2004. Both similarities and differences. A fascinating discussion that shows considerable continuity.

All in all, an excellent book, examining continuity and discontinuity between the 1950s and the 2000s.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Recasting Of AClassic
Lewis-Beck et al. do a excellent job of re-examining the questions raised by Campbell, Converse, Miller & Stokes nearly fifty years ago. The data the provide is timely and accessible for anyone with an undergraduate knowledge of statistics.I firmly believe this book will be one of the most important sources of information for anyone wanting tounderstand the nature of the American electorate in the twenty-first century for decades to come.

3-0 out of 5 stars Put Another Nail in My Head
Having witnessed first-hand the missing profundity of the average American voter (I'm being kind), the thought of paying $21 to read the details leaves me cold -- yes, even 21 worthless Federal Reserve Notes. Here, stick this needle in my eye.Take your time, and have fun doing it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad
Beck is by far one of the best manga series around. It uses a bit of drama and a bit of comedy in a combination that works very well together. The underlying storyline is serious enough to keep any shoujo readers attention, while the comic elements are enough to keep the average shonen manga reader entertained. ^_^

5-0 out of 5 stars Beck--The Amazing Race for Music
Beck-Mongolian Chop Squad number two is an amazing book. Great artists have worked themselves to the details of actually drawing recognizable backgrounds, and the writing is a five star, two VERY BIG thumbs up. Beck is about one of the best books I have read, and I just can't wait for number five to come out. If you ask me, I would tell you to purchase this brilliant book; right now. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is excellent!!
This book, more than any other instructional manual, has really boosted my understanding of blues licks and riffs. Divided into three sections with each section focusing on one of the three greatest White blues guitarists in the history of electric guitar, you'll learn how to do a number of things with a blues lick that you might never catch onto if you are simply trying to mimic lines off a CD. Want to know how Clapton gets that powerful triplets-across-fours sound in some of his old Blues Breakers and Cream solos? This book will show you, and even better, let you hear the riffs on the included CD. Very much worth the money. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Really disappointed
As a life coach I have read hundreds of self-development books, but never got round to read any Martha Beck. I was really excited to finally get to listen to 'Follow Your North Star' on audio book, but that excitement lasted about 90 minutes.

I can see for total newbies to self-development it could be useful, but she lost me when she talked about meditation like people did in the 1920's, as though it were some big secret that she was revealing to the western world.

I may be being overly critical because I have had clients that raved over this book and it's usefulness is down to the reader, but it was one big yawn to me and I didn't feel I got anything out of it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not what I exspected
Simple ...not what I exspected too many stories out to left field for me anyway

5-0 out of 5 stars Follow Your North Star Audio
The presentation of high points from author Martha Beck's Follow Your North Star discussed by the author herself is a delight and an inspiration

I have read legions of self-help "life directional" books at this juncture in my life, and I can attest, at least from my viewpoint, that Martha is one of the very best "Life Coaches" around.Common sense and great humour
are her two sharpest tools, and she is exquisitely talented in teaching others their use as well.

1-0 out of 5 stars Promotes Islam, demotes Western Civilization
I just read about this book from a Texas School Board of Education that has banned buying it in their schools because it clearly supports Islam and is most definitely anti-Christian and anti-Western Civilization.

They made some clear points where in the book you can find whitewashing of Islam and portrayal of Christianity as violent and invading, and Islam as empire builders and migrators who brought wealth and happiness to many nations. It also contrasts Muslim concern for cleanliness with Swedes in Russia who were the "filthiest of God's creatures."

It also points out that the publisher of this book, which is McDougal, is funded by a Royal Family of Dubai.

Why would McDougal even take money from Islamic people who despise western civilization and other non-Islamic religions and then turn around and sell a book to American students that portrays us as the bad people and them as the good? That's horrible.

This is clearly a political move of Islam to assist in spreading Islamic faith to the non-Islamic countries any way that they can as Islam does not believe in the freedom to practice any religion equally. Islam believes only that Islam should be practiced and still uses violent and forceful means to accomplish that.

1-0 out of 5 stars This textbook is Fatally Flawed
A group of concerned citizens in Florida have questioned the apparent bias in this textbook, a bias against Western Civilization. The text has an anti western, anti capitalist, anti Christian and anti Jewish bias, and conversely promotes Eastern and Middle Eastern cultures and promotes Islam as a religion.

These concerned parents have approached the local school board and asked that this text be removed from the approved list of instructional materials. They were initially rebuffed, but the matter is now pending appeal before the entire Sarasota County School Board. This is the first time in history that such an appeal has ever been granted.

I strongly urge readers to find out if your local School Board has approved of this text, and if so, to file a formal complaint with the School District Superintendent (not at the school level).

1-0 out of 5 stars A Skewed and Omitting Historical text.
    from Jeff Dunetz:
Particularly upsetting was the section of the book covering the period from the end of WWII through the 1980s. It sets up the Cold War period with the mistaken politically correct explanation that both sides were aggressors. On page 983 it says:

Both sides believed that they needed to stop the other side from extending its power."What it should have said was that the Cold War was a battle between the Soviet side wanting to expand its communist philosophy across the world, and the west trying to prevent the takeover.

The book also whitewashes the tyranny of Castro's communist Cuba. Page 985 says "Soviet aid to Cuba ended abruptly with the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991. This dealt a crippling blow to the Cuban economy."There was no mention of the brutality of the Cuban regime; the fact that all opposition newspapers had been closed down, all radio and television stations were in state control, or that moderates, teachers and professors were purged. Nor was there any mention of the torture and inhumane treatment in Cuban prisons that is still happening today.

Perhaps the biggest rewriting of history was the discussion regarding the end of the Cold War. It talks about Nixon and detente, then boom on page 991:

... fiercely anti-Communist U.S. president, Ronald Reagan took office in 1991. He continued to move away from detente. He increased defense spending, putting both economic and military pressure on the Soviets.

And how does the book explain the result of Reagan's policies? "Tensions increased." That's it!

According to the text book, an increase in tensions was the only result of that "evil" Reagan's policies. But never fear because, there arose a leader in the USSR who knew not the cold war. Later on page 991, the book explains ".a change in soviet leadership in 1985 brought a new policy toward the United States and the beginnings of a final thaw in the cold war." Wow, look at that... out of the blue the USSR woke up one day and decided to play nice.

5-0 out of 5 stars A nice reference book
The book is very informative with some very interesting details. It's also well illustrated and easy to read, which is a quality most history books don't have. Definitely worth the price and good to have around especially if your kids like peeking into books.
