Excellent read!
As an adult reading a book meant for young adults, I expected to find this less than satisfying butwas pleasantly surprised by how engaging I found the story.I kept turning the pages to find out what would happen next. The author creates a nice feel for the historical time and place.
This was the first book I read by this author, and it made me want to explore some of her other books.

From the supplier: Each state should formulate an MSW (Municipal Solid Waste) management strategy that will show that it is economical for ratepayers, that it will yield a dependable mechanism of solid-waste management for local authorities, that it will allot risks in a comprehensible and reasonable fashion and that it takes into account the entire environmental influence of the facilities planned. Deborah D. Anderson and Laurie Burnham are wrong to pretend that MSW composting is a possible alternative in its present form, for they disregard the numerous technical and cost hurdles that inhibit the implementation of the system.

Excerpt: United States Live was the third album release by avant-garde singer-songwriter Laurie Anderson. Released as a 5-record boxed set (later reissued, slightly truncated, on four CDs), the album was recorded at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York City in February 1983. United States was Anderson's magnum opus performance-art piece featuring musical numbers, spoken word pieces, and animated vignettes about life in the United States. Segments ranged from humorous, such as "Yankee See," which gently chided Anderson's record label, Warner Bros. Records, for signing her in the first place, to the apocalyptic anthem "O Superman," which had been an unexpected Top 10 hit for Anderson on the UK music charts in 1981. Originally, United States (which was originally titled America on the Move) was presented over the course of two nights, running some eight hours. The United States Live box set is a truncated rendering of the performance, omitting many segments that were solely of a visual nature. Among the songs performed on the album was "Language is a Virus (from Outer Space)," a pop-like song based upon a phrase attributed to William S. Burroughs.
