Extractions: Rural Skills and Crafts: Summer Workshops 2002 Tupperville School Museum is pleased to announce its second year's program. In keeping with our educational heritage, and desire to preserve traditions of the past, we draw on the skills and knowledge of people from the village and further afield, in four main areas: October 19-20 (Saturday and Sunday) The Acadians, a thrifty people, wasted nothing that could be put to other use. Using scrap fabric to braid and sew rugs, there was always the delight in making utilitarian objects colourful and attractive. Learn to master the old craft of 5-strand plaiting, then sew the braids together and finish a rug for your own kitchen, hall or bath. Along with the rug-making, comes the story-telling. See how these "colourful lengths of material take form, intertwining with each other and unfolding like a beautiful flower." Anne remembers watching her grandmother Charlotte plaiting five strand braided rugs while sitting in front of the stove during winter evenings. In 1995, after several years living "away" Anne returned to 'Acadie' and decided to research and revive this forgotten art, which is how her adventure with Acadian Rugs began. In passing on this tradition to a younger generation, others will gain the pleasure it has brought her.

Marble Retreat Newsletter Summer 2001 to staff members Lynn Donnelly, Louis and Melissa mcburney, and Henry and Eva Villarreal,we're grateful for the physical help of Drake and judy Benson and http://www.marbleretreat.org/newsletters/October-2001/news_oct_2001.html
Extractions: I love the song from Porgy and Bess. "Summertime and the livin' is easy. Fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high." Sounds idyllic and that laid back old south style beckons. Unfortunately, "it ain't necessarily so!" This summer is turning out to be very busy. We've been booked up for months prior to each summer session and have long waiting lists. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to serve everyone who has wanted to participate in one of our brief intensives. Fortunately, we have competent ministries to which we can confidently refer folks. We also have help from a few of our Marble Therapy Fellows and a volunteer host couple to keep our full-time staff refreshed. The cotton's not so high up here either, but Henry says the fish are jumpin' in the Crystal. Meanwhile, we're looking forward to some hiking, baseball, opera, and Aspen Music Festival concerts (all the usual summer traditions.) We're also looking forward to the birth of Cheryl and Daryl's baby in August. We're getting to know and love Karin Evans, our new office manager for our new Carbondale office. So change is in the air as well as cherished traditions. That means we're watching our boundaries so there's time to go "up the lazy river and linger in the shade of a kind old tree."

Today Tonight Actress judy mcburney knows all too well the hazards of toxic cosmetics. You can put something on and it can burn straight away, she said. http://www.todaytonight.com.au/stories/137231.html
Extractions: Doctor Peter Dingle is a toxicologist and lecturer in environmental science at Murdoch University. He believes we have been conditioned by advertising to put more chemicals on our skin. "For the last 20 or 30 years we've just been brainwashed through advertisements on television and in the paper and on radio that you've got to put more and more chemicals on your skin," Dr Dingle said. "The more of these chemicals you put on your skin, the more damage you can actually do. "A classic example is a chemical called sodium laurel sulphate, which is found in all your shampoos, most of your cosmetics, all of your conditioners and what it does - they've actually found it does damage to the eyes."
