    Extractions: Independent artists face a number of unique challenges that artists signed to major record labels don’t have to deal with. The first is getting your music heard. You’ll never hear an independent artist on the radio anymore. The second is finding decent songs. These artists usually don’t have the type of budget to purchase songs from big time publishing houses where the top-level songwriters work. This leaves them with two options, write the songs themselves or pick songs from lesser-known writers. Independents who write their own music can turn out some incredible material. However, the results with selecting others material seem to be less impressive. Ashley Marie is another up-and-coming teenage vocalist. In this crowded field you need something to set you apart from the rest of the artists. Ashley has that in her powerful, pure country voice. She utilizes her voice well on her debut release but even with her impressive voice she can’t completely overcome the weak material found here. The album has the typical, lightly produced, scarcely arranged feel of most independent releases. You’ll otherwise love the sound or be turned off by it. I like to sample as many independent albums as I can so I enjoy the sound, it gives you something different to listen to compared to all of the slickly produced records released on the larger record labels.
