Extractions: CommuniGate Go to... Front Page NEWS SPORT CLASSIFIEDS LEISURE HEALTH LOCAL INFO BUSINESS EDUCATION ABOUT US A lively battle is fought each Christmas in the resort that boasts only one pier but two pantos. This year, Worthing presents Mother Goose at the council-owned Connaught Theatre and Dick Whittington at the seafront Pavilion Theatre. And when the second show burst into life a few days after the Connaught's, it upheld the two venues' tradition of chalk-and-cheese comparison. Timmy Mallett is Idle Jack in this flash-bang-wallop production, backed by Steve Langley as Dick, lofty Tim Bartholomew in dame guise as Sarah the Cook, Connie Creighton as Fairy Bowbells and Brian Weston as King Rat. As ever, the Pavilion show is an exercise in getting kids thoroughly excited - it's the Utterly Brilliant Timmy Mallett Extravaganza, loud and mad. He's on a lot, complete with mallet, and a feature is much audience interaction. "Hiyah, hiyah," Timmy repeats on each entrance until he decides the answering volume is adequate. The young audience bounce in their seats, whooping and shouting as they are bombarded with sweets.
The Poptastic! Review Of This Week - 10 Years Ago this was the year that children's morning TV presenter timmy mallett, that wacky, manic chap with big glasses and Bermuda gear, and the plastic hammer (whose http://www.hogweed.org/poptastic/comm10/190890.html
Extractions: Poptastic!'s weekly look at the UK chart scene on this day 10 years ago, featuring the no.1 and all the new entries. Week beginning August 19 1990 1 Bombalurina Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini 8 George Michael Praying For Time 11 Deacon Blue Bacharach and David EP 14 Jive Bunny Can Can You Party Not too disheartened after the embarrassingly short chart life of their previous release "That Sounds Good To Me", which after two weeks at no.4 fell to no.9 then bombed to no.31 (after three straight no.1s), Jive Bunny were back with another single. Changing tack slightly after the standard fifties-megamix formula of three of their first four hits, this one was (you'd never have guessed) based around the Can-Can. As a result they managed to climb from their entry position this time to no.8, but their star was in the descent by now and they would never see the top 10 again after this. 17 Cliff Richard Silhouettes A fourth top 20 entry! After a number of slack weeks this was an unusually busy week for high new entries, including the latest hit by Cliff on which he continued his run of top 20 successes which had started with "Mistletoe and Wine" at Christmas 1988, and which comprised an assorted mixture of typical Cliff ballads and uptempo hits such as the SAW-produced "I Just Don't Have The Heart". This one was a pleasant-enough cover of the Herman's Hermits song from the 60s, and became his 4th top 10 hit in less than two years the following week. He'd have still more success before the year was out, firstly with one of his best-ever songs "From A Distance" in October, and finally with the Christmas no.1 yet again when "Saviour's Day" finally made it at the last moment.

Extractions: A: I remember the olden days when baked beans were round. And they were four times the size of what you get these days, they got us through the blitz you know. We used to sit in the Anderson shelter, eating our huge beans and having a good old sing-song. "Roll out the Darkie" and "Whoops, where's my Artichoke". They don't write them like that any more. And the beans came in a bigger tin too. And the tin was weighed in proper ounces, not your modern so-called Common Market 'grims' or whatever they are. I blame Ted Heath. Not like that nice Mr.Chamberlain. I am a pensioner and we used to be able to leave our front door open. It was baked beans got us through the blitz you know.

Condition: Pretty much excellent. OUR THOUGHTS (Will spoil first time riders) - Review by Lewis Cox Every town has its own museum, but not many have their own Ride. (Perhaps I should build one for my village...) Anyway... Oxford is indeed a very historically important town in the UK. Museums are all well and good, but a museum about Oxford would be so large, that family visits would presumably get thwarted by misbehaving kids before it has even started. Not only that, but it would be a bit of a bugger to organise it all into some sort of order, and visitors would probably leave even more confused then when they entered, but under the spell that they THINK they know it all. Perhaps it was to solve this problem that the OXFORD STORY was created. A dark ride (and a very long one at that) that takes you on a chonological tour of the history of Oxford, from it's universities to its Civic Centres.

Extractions: Yoshi's Island thankfully saw a surge of interest after last week's appalling start, though it's still nowhere near as high as it deserves to be. Its big brother Mario Sunshine is still doing well but it won't be long before it exits the Top 10. Probably. Even so, it sold over 300,000 copies in Europe in its first nine days on sale, so its work is already done.
