Extractions: Né(e) le 22 Juin 1940 à Téhéran (Iran) Abbas Kiarostami quitte ses parents à 18 ans après avoir réussi le concours de la Faculté des Beaux-Arts de Téhéran. Il finance ses études en travaillant la nuit comme employé de la circulation routière puis est engagé au début des années 60 par la société Tabli Film pour qui il réalise près de 150 spots publicitaires. En 1969 il fonde le département cinéma de l'Institut pour le développement intellectuel des enfants et des jeunes adultes et y réalise plusieurs courts-métrages dont Le Pain et la Rue (Nan va Koutcheh) remarqué dans des Festivals en 1970. Il signe son premier long métrage Le Passager (Mossafer) en 1974 et continue durant les années 70 et 80 à créer autour du thème de l'enfance avec Les Elèves du cours préparatoire (Avaliha) (1984) et Ou est la maison de mon ami? (Khaneh-ye doost kojast?) A partir des années 80, Abbas Kiarostami se recentre sur des personnages adultes avec des interrogations plus métaphysiques ( Et la vie continue , 1991) et un questionnement sur le cinéma ( Au travers des oliviers (Zir e Darakhtan e Zeyton) , 1994). Cette nouvelle inspiration va cependant toujours de paire avec une absence d'effets qui caractérise sa mise en scène avec cependant une créativité renouvellée par l'emploi de la DV dans

Si bien podemos decir que existe en la actualidad una oleada importante de films iraníes, también debemos advertir que correremos un enorme riesgo etiquetando a todos los directores iraníes bajo un único rótulo estético. En realidad, para ser más exactos, todos ellos abordan las mismas temáticas pero cada uno lo hace desde su particular recorte de mundo, lo que genera coincidencias en algunos directores y diferencias en otros. En el caso de Kiarostami podemos decir que, luego de una primera etapa en la que se encarga del descubrimiento del mundo desde la mirada azorada de los niños, se entrega en sus últimos trabajos a los influjos de la poesía popular puesta en relación con los valores inherentes al ser humano y a la mostración del artificio cinematográfico mismo a partir del uso de "el cine dentro del cine". Tanto las películas de Kiarostami como las del cine iraní en general asumen una posición estética a partir de un postulado ético estructural que coloca al hombre como centro de todas las contradictorias y conflictivas experiencias de la vida y la muerte.
