Ainsi, n'ayant pas fini sa formation il quitta l'école et a commencé dans le cinéma en faisant cascadeur puis est rapidement devenu chorégraphe des scènes d'action et enfin réalisateur. Sammo était le premier de la troupe à connaître le succès dans le monde du cinéma et réalise son premier film à 26 ans.

As he is the big brother of the Three Brothers and the Great boss in the Hong Kong showbiz, he is often referred to as "DAI-GO" ( big brother in Cantonese). Although, lately Jackie has been called "DAI-GO" for his stardom in the recent movie industry so some people actually call Sammo "DAI-GO-DAI", which of course means "the big big brother." He was the leader of the Seven Little Fortunes at the Peking Opera school with a stage name of "Yuen Lung." S ammo is brilliant at using weapons such as swords and spears. (For the record, I'm barely 5 foot 6 inches) But after spending an evening with him (as an audience member), it was clear that he is of much greater stature than his height. To backtrack just a bit . . . The first sign I saw upon arriving at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, California, was: "DON'T EAT YOUR TICKET UNTIL YOU GET STAMPED." The ticket seller explained: cinema-goers were handed a specially-wrapped fortune cookie. Upon presentment of the cookie, the usher at the door stamped your hand with a lovely Chinese-themed piece of art and admission was granted. But, no, I stayed. And how glad I was . . . The near-capacity crowd settled in and watched a lengthy biography of Sammo unreel on the gorgeous big screen. An off-screen narrator read a year-by-year review of Sammo's filmography while clips (mostly unrelated to the narration) played. The lights came up and Andy Klein, film critic for New Times and a long-time writer about Asian cinema, introduced the film and gave some highlights of Sammo's career. He did an admirable job of editing his notes as he spoke, since much of what he planned to say had already been covered in the highlights film. He noted that the print was made available courtesy of Warner Brothers.

Extractions: Directory A-Z Sammo Hung met Jackie Chan at an early age while studying at the Peking Opera School, where became part of a troupe known as the Seven Little Fortunes. Having made his film debut as an actor at age 12, Hung was the first of the Fortunes to begin working in martial arts films. His bestknown villain role was in Bruce Lee 's last completed film, Enter the Dragon, where Hung took on Hong Kong's first superstar in a classic kung fu battle filmed a few weeks before Lee's death. Determined to make his mark as a martial arts choreographer, Hung helped shape the genre that made Golden Harvest Hong Kong's leading studio and launched the careers of several stars. One of whom was the internationally famed Angela Mao, whom Hung choreographed in numerous films. In 1978, Golden Harvest called on Hung to choreograph a duel between a Bruce Lee look alike and Casanova Wong in Game of Death , making possible the completion of Lee's last film after his untimely death. The following year, Hung starred in Enter the Fat Dragon , an early kung fu comedy where he plays a swineherd who idolizes Lee. The character proved popular, and Hung repeated the role in two other films.

DID YOU KNOW THAT IN 1999 FACT #1: RENEWED FOR A 2ND SEASON - First Asian / Asian Pacific American show to be renewed for a SECOND SEASON! There have been other shows by Pat Morita (Mr. O'Hara, Russell Wong (Vanishing Son) and Margaret Cho (All American Girl) - but they didn't make it past the first season on network t.v.!

About Us Director Sammo Hung Cast Sammo Hung, Chung Fa, Peter Chang Lung, Leung Suet-Moi, Lam Ching Ying, Huang Ha, Yuen Biao, Wu Ma Encounters of a Spooky Kind was a highly successful blend of Kung Fu and comedy horror. It took HK $5,675,000 during a 16 week run in what was a quiet year for the Hong Kong box office; 1981 (it was released on 24/12/1980). This film was released after Sammo had worked on some of the all time great Kung Fu movies in the late seventies (Magnificent Butcher, Warriors 2 and The Victim) and it can be seen as a large departure from mainstream period Kung Fu. This film is an early and highly influential showing of the undead and Taoist mysticism in Kung Fu cinema. Later offerings include the huge grossing Mr Vampire and Ninja in the Dragon's Den. Sammo is credited as the director and action choreographer for this movie, but both Lam Ching Ying and Yuen Biao also played their parts. The two main support characters are played by Chung Fa and Peter Chan Lung as the good and evil Taoist priests. Chung Fa's most memorable roles include the Cat fighter in Magnificent Butcher and the fortune teller in Buddhist Fist. Chan Lung has an equally impressive CV and along with Chung Fa did much work with Sammo and co. in the mid 80's (e.g. Heart of Dragon, Eastern Condors and Winners and Sinners).

This year's festival, which wrapped on August 8, featured films by Academy Award winners and first year film students in two venues, Manhattan's Florence Gould Hall and Brooklyn Heights Cinemas. The range of honorees at this year's AAIFF says much about the breadth of the festival's interests. On opening night, veteran documentarian Dai Sil Kim-Gibson and award-winning cinematographer/director Emiko Omori shared the 1999 Asian American Media Award. The next evening, an impossibly tan and prosperous Sammo Hung (Hong Kong actor, director, fight choreographer, and now star of CBS Martial Law ") received a lifetime achievement award and two six packs courtesy of AAIFF and Budweiser .
