The Photo Gallery Abigail Blume Bauer Brief Character History We first met Abigail Blume when she was living in the Amish community of Goshen with her parents, Max and Charlotte. She had befriended Reva Lewis, who was living there while suffering from one of her many spells of amnesia. Deaf since a childhood accident, Abigail was suffering from severe migraine headaches. After regaining her memory and deciding to return home to Springfield, Reva persuaded Abigail to join her in the hopes of receiving some sort of medical treatment for her headaches. Once in Springfield, Abigail did indeed find a cure for her migraines. While receiving treatment at Cedar's Hospital, she met and began a friendship with Dr. Rick Bauer. It was Rick who persuaded Abigail's mother to let her stay in town under his care and learn sign language. Now living in Springfield, she was offered a home at the Bauer's and a job working for Alan Spaulding. Eventually, she headed to New York for speech therapy. When she returned, she was a new woman with a new look and a new attitude to go along with it. It didnt take long for Rick to take notice and the two fell in love and became engaged. Unfortunately, Abigail's happiness with Rick was short-lived. Discovering that Rick had had an affair with Blake Marler, she called the wedding off.

Her mother, Shirley, enrolled her in acting classes to prevent her from developing a speech impairment. It was there she discovered her flair for drama at age eight. Amy speaks and reads lips, and is skilled in American Sign Language. Amy credits her mother, a designer, and her father C. Robert Cox, a lawyer, for their support. She is the second of four children with an older sister Robin and younger siblings Lisa and Nicolas. Amy was born on June 25 in Reno, Nevada, and raised in Austin, Texas. The green-eyed, actress is married to actor Jon Ecklund. They were friends in high school, and they fought like siblings, then fell in love seven years later. When Amy is not working, she likes to sew her own clothes, write, cook, read, run, lift weights, and explore New York City. She was recently honored by the National Council on Communicative Disorders, receiving an individual achievement award for the time and energy she devotes to the organization. Amy earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Southern California, where she starred in Measure for Measure and Picnic. After college she moved to New York and worked in the coat checkroom at Sardi's and at other assorted odd jobs while auditioning and training with Austin Pendleton at HB Studio.
