Formerly known as Amy Cox, the talented Amy Ecklund created the character of Abigail Blume on Guiding Light in August of 1995. Amy is deaf in real life, just like her character due to a loss of hearing at age six because of an illness. Her mother signed her up for speech classes so she wouldn't lose her ability to talk. Amy speaks, reads lips, and uses American Sign Language. Amy earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Southern California, where she starred in Measure for Measure and Picnic . After college, she moved to New York and worked at odd jobs until while training at Austin Pendleton at HB Studio. She has performed in plays such as Present Laughter, The Madwoman of Chaillot, Conuselor-At-Law, The Mask of Moriarty, As You Like It, NY Seen, Holiday Goggles, and The Seagull. She also studied acting at the University of Texas and Zachary Scott Theater workshops. Amy married her high school friend Jon Ecklund seven years after their graduation. She credits her mother and father for their support. Her older sister Robin, younger sister Lisa, and younger brother Nicolas also.
