Dr. Drew: First things first: just because you started dating when you were young doesn't necessarily mean the relationship is doomed. People tend to worry about these kinds of relationships because from our teen years through our early 20s, we go through a tremendous amount of change, and not just hormonally. We change as people, and we develop a better sense of who we are and what we want in a relationship. I worry that if you are in a relationship throughout this phase of development, you are more focused on being a couple than on being an individual, and you don't experience the independence you need in order to grow. When that happens, a couple can become so dependent on each other and enmeshed in each other's lives that staying together is simply a matter of habit and comfort. In other words, it's easier to stay a couple than it is to break up. Those types of relationships rarely last, and if they do, they're not very healthy.

We bought him a SoundBlaster Live! digital sound card and this solved that problem. He was also having difficulties with his modem. Extractions: Research Interests My longstanding interest is in the embryology of muscles and bones of the vertebrate head, with particular emphasis on the interactions between precursor populations that may be important to early cell movements, to the differentiation of chondrocytes, osteocytes, and myocytes, and to the morphogenesis of musculoskeletal complexes. Each research project typically has two components. First, methods are developed to characterize a developmental property of each cell population. This could include in situ hybridization for patterns of gene expression, immunocytochemistry for protein synthesis, or retroviral infection to trace the lineages of specific cell populations. Phase two usually involves transplanting identified precursors to novel locations, then examining which aspects of their development continue, i.e. were already determined at the time, and which are altered in response to their new environment. At present I am focusing on myogenesis and have (1) identified the specific sites of origin of each muscle in the head and neck of the chick embryo, (2) catalogued the time of activation of several key myogenesis regulatory genes, and (3) defined the time and locations of fast and slow myosin heavy chain synthesis for each head muscle. Transplantation analyses reveal that the myogenic signaling systems for head and trunk muscles share some but not all components. Primary trunk myoblasts are committed to synthesizing slow myosins initially, but head myoblasts are not and will synthesize whatever myosin is appropriate for their immediate surroundings.

The Pasadena, Calif., internist and his cohost, Adam Carolla, also have a long-running syndicated radio program and take their show on the road to colleges. Now Pinsky and his backers are launching Drdrew.com, a health-care site for youth. "Young people and young adults are in a health crisis today - sexually transmitted disease, depression, teen pregnancy," says Pinsky, 40. "I can imagine no better opportunity than the Internet to reach this population. It's their medium; it's one they trust." It could be a profitable niche, given the paucity of health-care sites serving teens and twentysomethings. Teenagers, of course, think they're immortal. But as anyone who's ever tuned into Loveline knows, they worry about sexuality, drugs and mental-health issues that they'd never ask their parents about. We measure ourselves against what we see all day. The media bombard us with unreal images. Just ignore them! Our culture offers images of "perfection" that are unhealthy and often completely unreal. (Jamie Lee Curtis proved it when she posed in her skivvies and refused airbrushing for an unglamorous spread in "More" magazine last fall.) And it gets worse every year about this time, when we begin to see ads for the new season's swimwear. We need to understand that these media images are presented to us not as an ideal of beauty but to trigger some primal piece of our brain that grabs our attention and makes us buy. They are there to motivate purchase. Period.
