Extractions: The film begins with a woman (Valarie Pettiford- TV's Half and Half) singing at a club. Sitting at the bar is her daughter Billie (portrayed by Isabel Gomes). When singing the woman asks Billie to come up stage, and the two sing a duet. She says that Billie is going to become a famous singer one day. Next, we see the woman knocking on a rich man's door, and we learn that Billie's father is a rich white man who doesn't want to be in here life. When Billie returns home, her mother falls asleep with a lighted cigarette in her hand and it eventually burns down the house. With her mothers problem, Billie is taken away and sent to an orphange where she meets two girls and they become friends. Travel to 1981, where Billie (now Mariah Carey) and her friends (Tia Texada, and Da Brat) are all grown up and working as dancers at a hit party club. After work, the girls are approached by a hit music executive (Terrence Howard- The Best Man) and says he wants them to be in a singing group. His real plan is to record a woman's vocals and use them as his girlfriends (a Mili Vinelli thing). When the woman disrespects Billie and her friends, Billie is once again approached by a handsome Dice (Max Beesley) who says that he wants to make her big.
