The second part of this historic video shows Pink Floyd after having signed their first recording contract with EMI records outside Abbey Road studios in April '67. Again Syd is trippin'. Now for the first time, this historic film is available on DVD. Standard DVD packaging. 2001 release. Description Before the soft acid ballads like "Dark Side of The Moon," British rock band Pink Floyd was an entirely different animal. This was largely due to the presence of musician Syd Barrett, a slightly insane, drug-addicted guitarist with a particular genius for writing psychedelic, oddly beautiful gems of songs. His mental state spiralling, Barrett left Pink Floyd in 1968, and many would argue that the band was all the worse for it. SYD BARRETT'S FIRST TRIP is an odd little short rare Super 8 footage (taken by his film student friend Nigel Gordon) which documents the madly brilliant man's first trip on magic mushrooms. Filmed in 1966, this footage marks Barrett's first step into the disintegrating fog of hallucinatory drugs. In addition, a video capturing Pink Floys' 1967 signing to EMI Records a historic exchange which took place outside Abbey Road Studios is also included.

També és d'esmentar l'actitud que adoptava quan la banda arribava a una ciutat per actuar; a vegades se n'anava i no tornava; si arribava a temps per al concert, el seu comportament era imprevisible ja que repetia constantment les mateixes notes o, sense tocar, romania quiet amb vista de "zombie"... Una nit, abans de sortir a escena, s'intentava pentinar en el camerino; nerviós per no aconseguir-ho, mesclà píndoles analgèsiques amb xampú i es posà l'estranya barreja sobre els cabells; sortí a l'escenari i la calentor dels focus varen fondre la crema damunt la cara provocant un espectacle edificant. A pesar, però, de totes aquestes històries esperpèntiques, delirants, i tal vegada apòcrifes, quan es trobava bé, Barrett era espontani i fabulós; les seves improvisacions eren una celebració de la llibertat de noves idees; creava música tan bona que deixava en ridícul els altres membres de Pink Floyd.

Hi posaren arranjaments per suavitzar la visió confusa d'un Barrett que sembla caminar cap a les tenebres. El més innovatiu compositor de la psicodèlia britànica es retirà a la casa maternal de Cambridge; pintava, escoltava música, col.leccionava guitarres i cultivava xampinyons. No contactava amb ningú. A principis del 72 muntà una banda que fracasà el dia del debut. Des d'aleshores no ha tornat a tocar davant públic. Més rumors i llegendes que ens el mostren treballant de jardiner, vivint a Katmandú o visitant psiquiàtrics. Imatges en què recull els "royalties" dels seus dos discos i del material enregistrat amb Pink Floyd. El 1975 visità els estudis en què els seus amics li retien homenatge amb la canço "Shine On You Crazy Diamond"; assistí sense obrir boca a les mescles de la cançó però no hi tocà. Feia molt de temps que havia acabat la investigació de la pròpia vulnerabilitat.
