Extractions: Kenny is the National Atomic Museum's director of public relations and marketing. By Becky Kenny The nation's only congressionally chartered museum dedicated to nuclear energy is now, officially, totally "off-base." After 32 years of being behind security fences that made it difficult for the public to visit, the National Atomic Museum has moved from its historic location on Kirtland Air Force Base. It's now in Albuquerque's museum district near Old Town. The public gets its first view Saturday of what is an "interim museum," reopening eight months to the day after it was forced to close its doors to the public because of the terrorist attacks on the East Coast that tightened security at Kirtland.

Extractions: ~~ WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL ~~ Try filing your claim with the Department of Justice, not the VA When the atmospheric nuclear testing ended in 1963, no medical follow-up was ever conducted by the Atomic Energy Commission or Department of Defense. There was never any government-sponsored medical surveillance of its "atomic test subjects", nor any attempt on the part of the government to contact those who participated in the atomic tests and alert them to the fact their health was potentially at risk. The purpose of this web site is to provide information to Atomic Veterans and others who were exposed to harmful nuclear radiation. Links and addresses are provided within this page where persons can locate their military records or to order forms for filing claims. A list of presumptive Radiogenic diseases associated with radioactive exposure covered by Law is also provided. Various laws have been passed to aid Atomic Veterans and others who were exposed to radiation and have experienced adverse health problems because of exposure to radiation.

PROTECT YOUR PAST FOR THE FUTURE (Laws, Regulations, Standards, and Coventions Related to Cultural Resources) About the Submerged Cultural Resources Unit (NPS-SCRU) With increasing awareness of America's underwater cultural resources, employees of the U. S. National Park Service began in the 1960's to investigate shipwrecks with SCUBA equipment, and to document their locations and condition. This activity accelerated in the 1970's as park managers became increasingly aware of the richness and importance of these submerged resources. In 1980 this effort was formalized within the Submerged Cultural Resources Unit, staffed by professional underwater archaeologists, technicians and other professionals to provide the United States national park system with the necessary expertise. Click on colored dots for more information on NPS-SCRU related projects Its major roles now include: Inventory, mapping, and assessment of underwater cultural resources in the U.S. National Park system.

An End To The Search? You can't take this one with you The Mark 17 hydrogen bomb, in the National AtomicMUSeum's outdoor display, was the largest US nuclear weapon ever built. http://whyfiles.org/167new_nukes/5.html
Extractions: Pure fusion bombs (which omit the fission trigger) could also promote the spread of nuclear weapons. Why? Because fission fuel - highly-enriched uranium or plutonium is hard to make, and the production is easy to detect. Stephen Schwartz, publisher of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, says, "If fourth-generation nuclear weapons were ever to become a reality, that would truly be the death of arms control, would make it almost impossible to control nuclear weapons. The biggest constraint now is access to plutonium and highly-enriched uranium. If you didn't need those... it would become a much different proposition." Then there's the leak problem: secrets don't stay secret. David Albright, president of the Institute for Science and International Security , writes, "The history of the spread of nuclear weapons includes many cases where countries gained access to secret information enabling them to accomplish the goal of making nuclear explosive materials or the weapons themselves."
