It intends to put as many books on-line as possible and to gather these on line works into one central location. It is a terrific service of the University of Illinois. Project Gutenberg is the brainchild of Michael Hart, who in 1971 decided that it would be a really good idea if lots of famous and important texts were freely available to everyone in the world. Since then, he has been joined by hundreds of volunteers who share his vision. Now, more than thirty years later, Project Gutenberg has the following figures (as of November 8th 2002): 203 New eBooks released during October 2002, 1975 New eBooks produced in 2002 (they were 1240 in 2001) for a total of 6267 Total Project Gutenberg eBooks. 119 eBooks have been posted so far by Project Gutenberg of Australia

Extractions: Saturday Counter-Rotation and the Disco-ball of Life At last, an injury suffered brings you back to my bed, expelling you from the doors of another! -Propertius Sextus (circa 5016 B.C.), Roman elegist Meanwhile Thanks to all who sent me notes of good-cheer and general jolliness over the past week. I'm working like a 2-dollar whore on payday to get back to you, so please be patient. This little princess isn't used to so much email in a single week. p.s. y'all are the sweetest! I already know. I live dead center in the middle of Tornado Alley. For those of you unfamiliar with Tornado Alley, it's lovely country. Its flat. Its dry. Its covered in wheat and corn. And hon, the homos are few and far between. I dont think the tornados scare the homos away, but it sure doesnt help. Its 0830 right now and Im writing this long-hand in the laundry-mat. A storm has come up from the Texas panhandle, at right corker at that, stretching some 200 miles in length, 75 to 80 miles in width. There were several tornados spawned in Texas, but- to the best of my knowledge- none here. Its quite something to watch the radar though. Being in Tornado Alley means that the meteorologists here have the most advanced weather radar, satellite access, and computed storm topography available anywhere in the world. If you want better than this, you need to join the military industrial complex. As I was watching the storm being tracked on radar the sky outside went from daytime to dusk in the space of 2 minutes. I thought we had an eclipse for a minute there, but then I realized low wet clouds were rolling in. I could see the city outline on the radar, my street, and the back edge of the storm, which was some 70 miles from the city. We were just meeting the front end of it. But its never the front of the storm that you need to know about- the tornados generally breed off the back.
