Extractions: Approximate number of items: 1500 Paul Philemon Kies was born at Highland, Illinois, in 1891. In 1915 he received a Master of Arts degree in German from the University of Nebraska and a degree in music from Lincoln Musical College. After teaching in high school at Goodland, Kansas, Kies accepted a pastorate in Illinois for two years. He graduated from the Chicago Musical College in 1920, then taught English at Penn College in Iowa until 1924 after which time he accepted a teaching position at the State College of Washington in Pullman, Washington. In 1928 he received a doctorate in English from the University of Chicago. He worked at the State College of Washington until his retirement as Professor Emeritus in 1956. He died at Pullman in 1971. OTHER LINKS The Nieder-Weisel Story THE SHIPS The passenger lists of all those ships which arrived in Victoria from 1852 (when records commenced) up until 1863 were examined by Kelvin Williams, and details of passengers with names that were known to have been in use in Nieder-Weisel were extracted. The names were listed in roughly chronological order of the ships' arrivals, and each passenger uniquely identified by a reference number S001 to S899. Many of them were later deleted when it became clear that they were not immigrants from Nieder-Weisel. Kelvin's list, covering three pages, can be viewed at Page 1 Page 2 , and Page 3 When available, the name of the ship's captain, tonnage of the ship and total number of passengers on board are shown.
