Extractions: Navigation: Infotrope sca persona -> index.html Lady Katherine Rowberd is a widowed gentlewoman living in early Elizabethan England, around 1560. She is educated enough to read, write, and keep her household accounts, play a little music, dance, and of course has knowledge of a wide range of household skills including cooking, sewing, and general household management. Katherine's father is a well-to-do merchant of Southampton involved in shipping and (to a lesser extent) adventuring. Her brother, Kenrick, is a privateer (see below Her family's merchant wealth provided her with a sufficient dowry to marry well to a minor local gentleman at the age of nineteen. She had three babies (two stillborn, one died young) before the death of her husband five years later. Her husband's lands not being entailed or otherwise legally entangled, she has full use of their comfortable but small manor house in Hampshire, and an income of a few hundred pounds a year from the estate. Katherine's home is a small manor house built from a modified abbey which her husband's father was granted during the dissolution of the monasteries during Henry VIII's reign. She hopes that a future marriage will gain her a larger and more comfortable home.
