While he was growing up, he always excelled in school, but John's one life long love was the theatre. After his high school graduation, John accepted a scholarship to Missouri Western State College in Saint Joseph , MO. After a two year stint in college, his family decided to make a big move and settled in Panama City, FL on the Gulf Coast. John lived there for a year before deciding to move to Fort Lauderdale, FL because his dream was to always live in a big city. John was first introduced to Female Impersonation in 1975 at a local bar in Pensacola, FL and was totally fascinated with the art. Shortly after, he started his career as Dana Manchester and made his first appearance at the Fantasy Club in Fort Lauderdale. From there he went on to work at very well known establishments such as Keith's Cruise Room, the Warehouse 8, and Tackys of Fort Lauderdale, which would become his home bar for over two years. In 1977, The Miss Florida Pageant F.I. was about to have one of it's most shining representatives. Dana, having learned from his mistakes the previous year when he entered for the first time, came back to the Miss Florida Pageant in full force and, once again, sponsored by Tackys of Fort Lauderdale, took home the very well deserved title. Says Lola Lush of Miami,"The year Dana Manchester won Miss Florida was my very first time at Miss Florida . She was the winner at rehearsal as far as I am concerned and her rendition of A CHORUS LINE is one of the best productions in the history of the Miss Florida Pageant. She is a true talent and beauty!". In 1987, celebrating his tenth year anniversary as a Miss Florida, Dana Manchester was named "The First Lady of Florida" by the pageant's committee. But Dana Manchester's career did not stop there.

Goodwin Neck encompasses the present village of Dandy located in York Co, VA, near historical Yorktown. The view from the neck, which extended into the York River, is absolutely breathtaking. "This area, locally known as Dandy, was part of the land granted to John Chew July 6, 1636, and was sold by his heirs to James Goodwin, a member of the House of Burgesses from Jamestown August 27, 1668. The area was strategically important both to British General Charles Cornwallis and to Confederate General John B. Magruder, who erected earth redoubts at the heads of several creeks on Goodwin Neck." Dick Ivy, editor of "The Dandy Citizen" was kind enough to send me an article on the history of Dandy he wrote in September 1983. John Goodwin was originally appointed as Chief Justice of the Arizona Territorial Supreme Court and after the death of the original appointee, John Addison Gurley, he was appointed to the executive position. Like many of the governors, Goodwin had other interests in mind while serving as governor, he did not hold the office very long and very quickly returned east after his administration. This was typical of most appointees since they may have only taken the position because they had mining and similar financial interests in the area. Prescott was Arizona's First Capital click here His First Message to the Arizona Legislature concerned many topics such as the Indian troubles in the Territory, "A war must be prosecuted until they are compelled to submit and go upon reservation." The new Governor also opposed many New Mexico statutes that he thought to be barbarous such as peonage (involuntary labor) and detention of debtors in jail. Peonage laws were later repealed when new laws were compiled for the Territory. Goodwin's major goal was to heal the rift between Unionists of the North and Confederates of the South. Southern Arizona was previously under control of the Confederate States of America from 1861-1862 . He enacted the first set of laws for the territory known as the Howell Code . The Governor asked for money to create Reservations ($250,000) on the Colorado River and funds to raise voluntary rangers (350 men, 11 officers) to help maintain them. He created 4 counties out of the territory;

    Extractions: John Goodwin Martin Company K, 122nd Illinois Volunteer Infantry On August 11, 1865, Dr. John Binney (John's brother-in-law) was called to John's house. John was experiencing a smothering sensation. Dr. Binney administered the following treatment sedatives, expectorants, tonics, and bismuth, together with counter irritation to the chest, and occasional inhalation of creosote or turpentine, and a nourishing diet. He also prepared a cough syrup that John could take whenever necessary. John spent many nights sleeping upright in a chair so that he could breathe. With this illness, John was not able to do the manual labor of a healthy man, so a pension of four dollars per month was issued to him beginning July 16, 1865. Since he could not support his family on this pension, he was put on a pauper's list, and given financial aid by Macoupin County. On February 5, 1878, the pension was increased to eight dollars per month, allowing him to support his family without county aid. It was further increased as follows to twelve dollars per month on April 25, 1888, to seventeen dollars per month on June 16, 1897, and finally to twenty four dollars per month on September 7, 1898. Additional requests for raises were denied. Later in life, the bronchitis was so bad that John would cough until he passed out. Since his doctors could not effectively treat his condition, he treated it by smoking mullen leaves (a local plant) which he picked, dried, and smoked in his pipe. He could not have known that smoke actually worsens bronchitis. Bronchitis caused the exhaustion which finally killed him, but he lived a very long life even by today's standards. He died on June 12, 1907 at the age of 85. He is buried in a small, secluded cemetery in Alhambra, called the Harris Cemetery.

They had both been great offenders before, according to their age, though abundance of their robberies are not recorded. William Jones, alias Goodwin (which latter was said to be his right name, though he went by the former), was born in Gloucestershire, at a village near Campden, called Weston Subedge. He was kept at school till sixteen years of age, with one Mr Taylor, whom he was like to have killed with a pistol. At their breaking up at Christmas the boys had shut their master out of the school in the midst of their diversion, and refused him entrance. Mr Taylor upon this endeavouring to force open the door upon them, Jones discharged a bullet through the keyhole and narrowly missed his breast. In particular, he robbed the Worcester and Bridgnorth stage-coaches several times over, and within the compass of a few days stopped a great number of passengers, horse and foot, upon Sarney Downs, near Winchester. His reign was not very long, but no man ever was more industrious to improve the little time that his fortune permitted him to go on in his villainies. John Barber was born at Chard, in Somersetshire, from whence, coming up to London when he was very young, he got into a gentleman's service, and lived, among others, with Dr Boorne, at the Two Twins, in Moorfields, where he was detected in cheating his master of small sums of money, and turned out of doors for the knavery.
