It intends to put as many books on-line as possible and to gather these on line works into one central location. It is a terrific service of the University of Illinois. Project Gutenberg is the brainchild of Michael Hart, who in 1971 decided that it would be a really good idea if lots of famous and important texts were freely available to everyone in the world. Since then, he has been joined by hundreds of volunteers who share his vision. Now, more than thirty years later, Project Gutenberg has the following figures (as of November 8th 2002): 203 New eBooks released during October 2002, 1975 New eBooks produced in 2002 (they were 1240 in 2001) for a total of 6267 Total Project Gutenberg eBooks. 119 eBooks have been posted so far by Project Gutenberg of Australia

Extractions: lst updt 1-15-2003 I have an interest in the family of Whitmel H Hardy who lived in Clay County, Ala from about 1850 to his death in 1906. My interest is that his daughter, Nancy, married an Owen which has turned out to be my g g-f and g g-m. Some of the records I have on the Hardy background were obtained from Barbara Lunday Maxwell of Burleson, Tx (cmmaxwell@startext.net. She is descended from John Henry Hardy whereas I descended from his sister, Nancy Hardy. The HARDY mailing list from Hardy-L@rootsweb.com on the internet has been an invaluable source of data including the assistance from Martha Marble mmarble@erols.com and from Belinda Melton Hughes Hughes, bjhughes@erols.com and her pages on the families of Hardy, Parrott, etc at: Belinda Melton Hughes' pages. See separate page for Parrott Family Lineage. For more data on Nancy Jeter Hardy Gaither after her marriage to Shadrick and up to her death in Clay Cty, Ala in 1881, see her page. Heading East on 210 Hwy from North Kansas City, MO, take the N. Brighton exit. Turn left at the stop sign, go approx. 4 miles on N Brighton to the 5000 block. Turn left onto Shady Lane (Carriage Hills Estates Subdivision). Take the first right (Cypress St) and go about a block and a half. The cemetery is on the right hand side of the street, with a large fence around it This cemetery is located in the center of the north one-half, northwest quarter of Section 29, Township 51N, Range 32W, the southern part of the count. There are supposed to be unmarked slave graves in this cemetery, no known record of them. The cemetery is abandoned and neglected, and there appear to be many unmarked graves. I have photos of this cemetery, including what headstones are left that are legible enough to read if you are interested I can email them to you.
