City Policeman Slain. A Beckley policeman was shot to death shortly before midnight Monday [May 12, 1975]. His assailant then fled the scene in the officer's police cruiser. Dead on arrival at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital was Sgt. David [Lee] Lilly, 30. He was married and the father of one child. Police said Sgt. Lilly was shot in the upper right chest. Officers said the man, who abandoned his own car, which was registered to a Charleston address, was believed headed north on U. S. 21. Two young Beckley men said they were driving past the Town and Country Drive-In on W. Va. 3 when they saw Sgt. Lilly's patrol car parked behind another car. Sgt. Lilly was standing by the driver's window of the other car, they said, adding that both cars were facing south on W. Va. 3. Shortly after passing the scene, they heard a shot, returned to the scene and found Sgt. Lilly lying by the highway. The gunman fled in patrol car 406, a 1974 model blue Plymouth with two spotlights. Extractions: Nostalgia for the 1950s became big business in the mid-1970s, and leading the wave was this updated version of teenage life in the mid-1950s. It started modestly and built in popularity until in the 1976-1977 season Happy Days was the number one program in all of television. Along the way it made a major star out of one of its supporting actors. Happy Days changed dramatically from the series that premiered in 1974. Originally it was the story of two high school kids, Richie Cunningham (Ron Howard) and his pal Potsie Weber (Anson Williams), at Jefferson High in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Howard Cunningham (Tom Bosley), Richie's father, ran a hardware store while Chuck (Gavan O'Herlihy, replaced by Randolph Roberts later in the first season) was Richie's college-bound older brother and Joanie (Erin Moran) his 13-year-old kid sister. Richie and most of his friends hung out at Arnold's Drive-In, a malt shop near the school. Richie was supposed to be the innocent teenager and Potsie his more worldly pal. So as not to make the show too much like

"We are not going to achieve a new world order without paying for it in blood as well as in words and money." Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., in Foreign Affairs (July/August 1995) "The drive of the Rockefellers and their allies is to create a one-world government combining supercapitalism and Communism under the same tent, all under their control.... Do I mean conspiracy? Yes I do. I am convinced there is such a plot, international in scope, generations old in planning, and incredibly evil in intent." Congressman Larry P. McDonald, 1976, killed in the Korean Airlines 747 that was shot down by the Soviets "We are grateful to The Washington Post, The New York Times, Time Magazine and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost forty years. It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subject to the bright lights of publicity during those years. But, the work is now much more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government. The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national autodetermination practiced in past centuries." David Rockefeller, founder of the Trilateral Commission, in an address to a meeting of The Trilateral Commission, in June, 1991.

Extractions: By Maria Lameiras Rodriguez helps Domingo and Edith Vargas navigate the 'Net. Guillermo Rodriguez identifies with the problems facing 13-year-old Domingo Vargas and his 9-year-old sister, Edithchildren of Mexican immigrants. I know how hard it is, said Rodriguez, MS IE 97, who moved to the United States from Colombia at age 14. It was a culture shock. The 25-year-old industrial engineer is a mentor for the Vargas children, son and daughter of recent immigrants. I had my parents to help me, Rodriguez said. They were integrated into society professionally. Domingo and Ediths parents are not so fortunate. I fit in as that link, Rodriguez said. Rodriguez decided to make a differenceand it turned out to be easier than he expectedmentoring mostly requires a commitment of time, he says. There are two things that I have learned. First, mentoring is a social responsibility. Second, mentoring is not hard to do, Rodriguez said. The only thing you have to do is be willing to do it. If you want to help kids, and its from the heart, you can do it. Rodriguez, who oversees fiber-optic cable production at Lucent, said finding the time to mentor is a challenge worth meeting.
