A su vuelta dirigió los periódicos revolucionarios Budilnik y Zname. Su incesante activismo propagandístico encuentra su expresión en la literatura. Su poesía popular recuerda a Byron, Pushkin y Lermontov. En ella presenta a rebeldes que lucharon por la independencia, o a proscritos nobles que robaban a los ricos para entregar el botín a los pobres. Borba es una condena poética de la injusticia, y Mehanata satiriza a los políticos de café. En 1876, Botev regresó del exilio en Rumania y fue asesinado en el levantamiento antiotomano. Textos:

Quale precursore importante della letteratura bulgara moderna va citato il monaco Pajsii di Hilendar (1722-1798), autore della "Storia slavobulgara della nazione e dei re e dei santi bulgari e di tutti gli avvenimenti e fatti bulgari", opera che seppure di carattere compilativo é pervasa da sincero spirito patriottico e si prefigge lo scopo di dare una dignità storica al popolo bulgaro.

Its author, Bogdan Mavrodinov, has used a very popular portrait of the poet by Boyan Petrov to make the design. The stamp, with a nominal value of 120 levs, measures 28.5 to 39 mm. Its perforation is notched, the circulation of the issue is 1 million.
