In Sherlockian Circles, he is best know for the famous parody, The Adventure of the Two Collaborator s, a parody of Dr. Watson's Sherlock Holmes writings, which featured his friend, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes, Dr. John H. Extractions: og Peter Pan Forfatteren til Peter Pan J. M. Barrie blev født den 9.maj 1860 i den lille skotske by Kirriemuir. I 1885 flyttede han til London og fik stor succes som dramatiker. Han giftede sig i 1894 med skuespillerinden Mary Ansell, men snart smuldrede ægteskabet. Særligt det faktum at parret ikke var i stand til at få børn og stifte den familie, som de begge ønskede så brændende, skabte en dyb kløft imellem dem. I bryllupsgave fik de en newfoundlænderhund, som senere kom til at spille en rolle for Peter Pan bøgernes tilblivelse, (og senere som "barnepige" hos hr. og fru. Darling, Wendys forældre i Peter Pan). Barrie havde for vane at spadsere med hunden i Kensington Gardens. Her traf han en dag i 1898 den 5-årige George Davies og dennes yngre brødre Jack og Peter. Mødet blev starten på et livslangt varmt venskab med familien Davies 3, snart 5 sønner. Barrie legede ofte med drengene og fortalte historier. Inspireret af disse lege skabtes Peter Pan, der første gang optræder i 6 kapitler i Barries roman The Little White Bird, udgivet i 1902. Disse kapitler blev i 1906 samlet og udgivet som Peter Pan i Kensington Gardens. Barrie var særdeles produktiv. Barnet der aldrig ville blive voksen og moderdyrkelsen er to væsentlige temaer i hele Barries forfatterskab.
