What separates people from apes? How can a Great Dane be related to a Chihuahua? Is there evidence that people and dinosaurs lived at the same time? What should you do if you encounter a bear? How can you tell if a snake is poisonous? Come find out answers to these questions and many, many more with Apologia's Exploring Creation with Zoology 3! This third book in the zoology series takes students on a safari through jungles, deserts, forests, farms, and even their own backyard to explore, examine and enjoy the enchanting creatures God designed to inhabit the terrain. Families will snuggle together and discover the amazing animals from primates to parasites, kangaroos to caimans, and turtles to terrifying T-Rexs- this safari doesn't end there! Students will also keep a record of where each animal is found on a map and learn to identify animal tracks. 5-0 out of 5 stars Sixth Day Science Book
It's such a relief to find a science book where your kid loves learning. Each day he looks forward to it, and our one-on-one discussions are just awesome!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Science curriculum
The apologia science books are my favorite for home schooling. The elementary series gives the kids an in depth learning experience. The Land animals is the third in the series of biology/zoology.There are two main ways to teach a subject like science. The first way is often within a school setting. It is to give the students a little bit of every aspect of science every year adding to that knowledge year after year. This series uses the second method of delving into a subject deeply and thoroughly.I have chosen science curriculum that use the second method and my children know and love science to a greater degree then most students.

Within the Land animals book this year we will be marking where the animals live on a world map, we will be learning and drawing their tracks we will be doing great science experiments that are easy and use readily available materials. We will also be keeping a science notebook. My kids beg me to do Science everyday.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nothing but good things to say....!
Mrs. Fulbright has done it again!Yet another fantastic book!As a Registered Nurse (with a love for science!) and a homeschooling mom, I am SO happy to have found these series of science books for my family. I own all 5 elementary text books. They are wonderful tools to teach and stimulate an interest and love for science. I am amazed just how much even my first grader is picking up on topics I would otherwise deem above her.Two big thumbs up! (any plans for an anatomy book?)

5-0 out of 5 stars a great indication of Fulbright's quality material
We have already completed the other 4 Fulbright books and I think what you are about to read gives a far better review than I might muster. We received our Zoo 3 book yesterday.Let's just say, I didn't get past the bubble b4 dd8 took the book out of the box.Ds6 sat down next to her and they started. She put it down to go to the bathroom ds11 took it and tried to hide in his bed.Ds6 follows. In comes dd8.Ds11 reads aloud.I finally swipe the book to take to an appointment where ds12 reads over my shoulder.I come home ds11 takes the book again and he and ds6 forgo playing outside w. friends to read the book.I check in on ds11 at 9:30, an hour after his bedtime to find him with his reading light, reading the book. This morning, ds6 up first comes to me in bed at 6:30, "Momma, where's the science book?"He takes it from ds11's bed and starts looking.Ds11 (who slept in til 8:30 b/c he stayed up 'til about 10:30 reading said book) wakes up, not good morning mom, but, "Where's the science book? I left it on my bed."I just had to make him put it down so he could carry on with our last day of school (YIPEE!)So right, now ds12, ds6 and dd8 are on the couch, with the book.Dd10 says she'll just wait until they're all finished then she can sit down and enjoy it by herself (smart girl!)
If you're looking for quality that will encourage your children to love learning, this series is a sure bet.The material is well presented, easy and enjoyable to read and fosters a real love of science.I have read through almost all of the book and can't wait to complete the series.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE LOVE LOVE the Exploring Creation Series!!!
This author never fails!!! We couldn't wait until this book was available and are planning to use it this upcoming school year! Although I have already completly read the book (I just couldn't wait) and it is AWESOME! My children love this series and we have used them and own them all! They have beautiful pictures, an easy to read text and easy to understand, however the information is not light~ it's extremely informative in a fun to read way! This particular book has a really cool "Map It" activity so it ties in science with geography!! Plus it also contains the really fun experiments that my family loves to do! I just love it and all the books in the Exploring Creation Series! Thank you Jeannie Fulbright!! ... Read more

You don't need this book. Really! However, for some of you, it may be the most useful science supplement you can buy, and that is why we are excited to offer it. How The Young Explorer Series Uses Notebooks The Young Explorer Series is our favorite science program for young scientists, and with good reason. The Charlotte Mason approach provides lots of information in a readable, engaging format. Lessons are designed to be spread over multiple weeks, with significant portions devoted to hands-on experiments and to notebook keeping. Notebook Keeping Explained Notebook keeping is simply a system for assisting your child to document what he has learned in each lesson. With the use of this book or even an ordinary 3-ring binder, your child will write out the highlights of each lesson. If your child doesn't enjoy writing, don't let that discourage either of you. The author of this book encourages you to have your child dictate his thoughts to you or illustrate them. Noteb ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars An Inside Look at Zoology
"To find out how a car works, we take it apart and study its insides... To find out how an animal works, we take it...er, no we don't. We look in this book!" So begins Steve Parker's irreverent and informative guide to animal anatomy.

While no animals were harmed in the making, and no scalpels are required, the book provides an inside look at animals you're unlikely to find on the dissecting table. For instance, the book compares a hippo with a mosquito and shows that despite their drastic exterior differences, they share many organs with similar purposes. The guide then goes through "Slithery-Slimies" (earthworm, coral and jellyfish, starfish, squid, lobster); Bugs (dragonfly, beetle, moth, bee, scorpion, centipede); "Fins and Scales" (shark, salmon, electric eel, frog, turtle, crocodile, chameleon, python); Birds (ostrich, penguin, swallow, owl), and Mammals (whale, kangaroo, bat, elephant, tiger, monkey). Each animal is given a large, fact-filled page.

The Beginners Guide is crammed with blocks of information, so much so that it can be hard to know where to look next. Each page is generously and colorfully illustrated, and each chapter begins with a mechanical look at animals (in keeping with the car analogy).
One thing Animal Autopsy lacks, though, is information about autopsies. This is a great primer of comparative *anatomy*, but readers thirsting for the what's and how's of dissecting should look elsewhere. The other omission is in definitions; readers might be frustrated at what's not included in the one-page glossary.

The Beginner's Guide to Animal Autopsy is a great resource for kids wanting to know more about zoology. ... Read more

Product Description
Plant Cell Biology is a semester long course for undergraduates and graduate students which integrates mathematics and physics, two years of chemistry, genetics, biochemistry and evolution disciplines. Having taught this course for over ten years, the author uses his expertise to relate the background established in plant anatomy, plant physiology, plant growth and development, plant taxonomy, plant biochemistry, and plant molecular biology courses to plant cell biology. This integration attempts to break down the barrier so plant cell biology is seen as an entrée into higher science.

Distinguishing this book from papers that are often used for teaching the subject which use a single plant to demonstrate the techniques of molecular biology, this book covers all aspects of plant cell biology without emphasizing any one plant, organelle, molecule, or technique. Although most examples are biased towards plants, basic similarities between all living eukaryotic cells (animal and plant) are recognized and used to best illustrate for students cell processes.

  •  Thoroughly explains the physiological underpinnings of biological processes to bring original insight related to plants

  • Includes examples throughout from physics, chemistry, geology, and biology to bring understanding to plant cell development, growth, chemistry and diseases

  • Provides the essential tools for students to be able to evaluate and assess the mechanisms involved in cell growth, chromosome motion, membrane trafficking, and energy exchange

  • Companion Web site provides support for all plant cell biology courses

Amazon.com Review
This ambitious reference guide lives up to its name. Practically three inches thick--and we're not talking large print here--it's packed with titles, ordering information, and Web site addresses. From where to send away for a kit to make your own Chilean rain stick to how to order a set of Elizabethan costume paper dolls, the book connects families to a world of learning possibilities. Book titles, short synopses, authors' names, publishers, and years of print make up the bulk of the guide. Classics such as The Cat in the Hat and Curious George share billing with lesser-known titles like Stone Fox, the story of a legendary Indian dog-sled racer. Every entry appears with recommended ages and an icon that shows whether the item is a book, computer disc, or video; an outstretched palm denotes hands-on materials. Most of the resources seem to have been test-driven by the author and her three homeschooled sons. Rebecca Rupp, a former scientist who has been teaching her kids at home for more than 10 years, peppers the guide with anecdotes about her children's experiences in various subject areas, much of it drawn from the family's extensive journals. Along with books, magazines, and kits for reading, math, writing, science, and history, a considerable amount of space is given to computer and television resources, as well as "life skills," a broad category that includes everything from etiquette and carpentry to sewing and sex education. Like a Yellow Pages guide to knowledge, The Complete Home Learning Sourcebook belongs on the shelf of anyone looking for new ways to spark a child's imagination. --Jodi Mailander Farrell ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great source for materials
"The Complete Home Learning Source Book" is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a lot of reading to get through "War and Peace", but that's just peanuts to "The Complete Home Learning Source Book". All right, so that may not be strictly true (and it's a blatant rip-off from Douglas Adams, I know), but really, this is a book that lives up to its name.

Rebecca Rupp has compiled all kinds of resources, from print to video to computer software, and listed it by subject. As if this wasn't enough, she has included addresses, phone numbers, websites and information about all of the resources she lists, and in many cases, bases her information on personal experiences with the products in question from her own homeschooling program. This book really is a wealth of information. In fact, my only complaint is that I found it a bit overwhelming.

I like the format-divided by subject, and further subdivided by type of media, with clear markings as to the age/grade level of the material. She starts with the title, type and age, and then gives a brief review, often followed by purchasing information.

While I have found this book extremely helpful, I consider it best used paired up with Rupp's "Home Learning Year by Year". This book provides the resources needed to follow the curriculum outline in "Home Learning Year by Year". Beginning homeschoolers like me may find it difficult to know where to start without the latter book, but be unsure where to turn for materials without the former.

I "like" this book, rather than "love" it because I am not one who enjoys books of lists-even when they are as useful and well done as is this one-but I would still highly recommend it for its utility.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic resource for anyone! (But particularly homeschoolers)
This is a fabulous, irreplaceable, always-at-my-side resource book. I especially love it for unit study research. Just as valuable as the resources and reviews are the well-written and funny personal experiences of the author, a homeschool mother of 3. I use this book CONSTANTLY.

On the down side, since the book was published in 1998, several of the web sites referenced are no longer available. The rest of the book is invaluable, however, thus my rating of 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is so helpful.
I had no idea there was so many resources for home schooling.Thank goodness for this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars It has "Complete" in the title for a reason and gets really close
Wow - everything you wanted to know about homeschooling but wouldn't even think to ask. It's almost too overwhelming, but it's a great resource. She even includes her own homeschool journal entries, just brief sections, from the late eighties/ninties as she was homeschooling her three boys. She really includes all points of view and covers every subject so comprehensively. My only complaint is that it needs to be updated to include more website info. - she does list websites when she can, but there were many companies in there that I'm familiar with that have a good site and she didn't list the address for it. But you really can't believe all the subjects she covers - nothing is left out from what I can see.

4-0 out of 5 stars A fantastic reference book that needs to be updated!
This is such an incredible book that contains an enormous wealth of information and personal anecdotes.Unfortunately, this book is now outdated, as is some of the information in it.Some of the websites are no longer valid and some companies who had no website at the time this book was published, now do have one.In all, however, this book is a fantastic starting point with wonderful ideas.I hope the publishers of this book will seriously consider updating it and if they do, I honestly feel that this would be one of the most important homeschooling books available to families. ...
