4-0 out of 5 stars Decent for Emergency Medicine 4th year medical school rotation
I used this book for my 4th year medical school ER rotation. I was looking for a book that could fit into my pocket, similar to "pocket medicine" for IM but had a broad amount of material covered that was easy to review. Those that liked pocket medicine will like this book too!

Positives:
-Book has subjects listed as complaints with common findings, important history information, Physical exam findings, Lab findings and Management. Includes trauma and some critical care aspects.
-Topics can be reviewed very quickly after seeing a patient.
-It is better than pocket medicine, which is more for extensive work up of disease rather than ER management.
-Covers pediatrics
-includes a very extensive reference section for easy topic look up.

Negatives:
-Print is very small, around font size 6-8. It may strain the eyes for some.
-It is all black and white, with no pictures or figures, but does include various tables
-It does not cover common ER procedures like I&D, suturing ect...
-For what is is worth it is expensive being ~$50 new.
-The mini binder the book comes in does not have the book title printed on it. The image seen is a piece of paper that accompanies the book (you tape it on?). It just makes the book look like a date planner.

Overall I thought the book was good and a worth purchasing. Some other students used the tintinalli mini book, but it was much larger and cumbersome to place in your pocket. I think this book is great probably for medical student and intern/2nd year ER residents.

5-0 out of 5 stars on point
Im a PA and during my PA school I did a rotation in Trauma and Emergency Med at Mass Gen, where a lot of the writers of this book practice. I found that the information in this book was pretty much on point and provided a quick and general reference to a lot of the things you see in the ER. I studied this book and got all my pimp questions right!

5-0 out of 5 stars Organized by Chief Complaint
I purchased this book, and the ED loaned us the Tintinalli Manual. This book is great for quick references to help come up withthe best differential based on chief complaint. It is good for studying so you can focus on the most important issues with each major presentation. The Tintinalli is nice for reading to learn the info, but cannot be referenced as well while seeing patients.

4-0 out of 5 stars The best pocket reference for Emergency Medicine
This book gets it right! The chapters are arranged based on chief complaint, which is how problems present in the ER. Within each chapter, a list of disorders that are potentially fatal and serious are offered, as well as the investigations required and management for each one. Unlike the Sabatine internal medicine book, this one is not cluttered nor ugly. The layout is crisp and organized, and everything is easy to find - given that it is an ER book, it should be since time is of the essence!

However, this book is not perfect. The font is extremely small, like its internal medicine counterpart book. Furthermore, it does not have a great section on fractures and dislocations, particularly on their management.

Overall, I recommend this book to anyone who practices in the ER. From students to seasoned veterans, this book will be useful for just about anyone.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference
Very nice book to keep in your coat pocket.
Lots of important facts that you need at your fingertips.
Not allot of fluff just the stuff you need ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars folk medicine
I bought this for my aunt, she likes these types of books and information, says for the subject this is one of the better authors and well known for being honest in his opinions. This issue was a reprint and a fine copy, good deal and shipped fast.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book, very helpful.
My mother owned this book years ago and I found it very informative and helpful. I love anything that has to do with natural cures and this book really has some great information that works. I purchased this copy for my niece because she was intrested in the healing properties of vinegar. Great stuff!

5-0 out of 5 stars Folk Medicine- A New England Almanac of Natural Health Care...
A second look at "Folk Medicine"... makes me realize just how fortunate we are to have such a wealth of information available to us?The various health issues/conditions which D.C. Jarvis, M.D. presents are as important (and controversial) today as they ever were back in 1955. This is a medical doctor of a different era who allowed himself to evaluate the 'common sense' traditions of care with an eye for scientific evaluations. These anecdotal traditions were proven reasonable and beneficial when applied as simple methods to the care of herds for farmers who were searching for answers to improve the health and improved production outcomes for their cows. The simplicity of using brown, apple cider vinegar, honey, and traditional herbs to garner fairly remarkable results will cause the reader to pause and remember his own granny's remedies and review the extravagance we now have incorporated into our own health and well being. This should be a must read for all people concerned with health and wellness.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Provides excellent practical advice for common situations in primary care. We need widespread acceptance of such guidelines to stop runaway costs caused by unnecessary testing and to avoid treatments that do not work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Reference for the NP student!
I love the way this book is broken down in each section including patho, presentation, diagnosis, principles of therapy, patient eduation, and therapeutic recommendations. There is even a section for referral indications.I bought this book to supplement my primary care text book, and to use as a reference for discussion boards and papers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Standard-bearer
For an office based physician this thouroghly updated and referenced text-book offers the best evidence based information in short time of turningfewer pages. I use it more thanHarrison's text-book as it more SOAP related and better cross-referenced.
The editors of this brand-book made current changes, making it state of the art standard-bearer of text-books for any practicing physician. Moreover, my money is well spend when I bought this from Amazon.com store that let be browse books before I buy and has Nordstrom like sevice that makes book buying a dream.
Tariq Ahmed, MD MPH, Kirkland, Washington.

5-0 out of 5 stars Relevance ofprimary care textbook to my practice.
This textbook is very informative and helpful in my current practice as a family physician and geriatrician. The topics are up-to-date and very relevant.

4-0 out of 5 stars Primary Care Text
This is a book that my family practice residency uses for diadactic readings.I have found it to be well written and organized for primary care adult medicine. It is very up to date on latest research and gives recommendations at the end of the chapter with evidence based recommendations. It can at times be a bit wordy, but overall very good. A couple down sides are there are no pediatric topics discussed and Goroll does not include any mentioning of osteopathic manipulation, even though there is some significant efficacy studies involving osteopathic manipulation. Overall a good text. ... Read more

Delivering the facts to your fingertips, the Oxford Handbook of Tropical Medicine provides an accessible and comprehensive, signs-and-symptoms-based source of information on medical problems commonly seen in the tropics. 5-0 out of 5 stars Oxford Handbook of Tropical Medicine
I think that this is an excellent, useful handbook. I am a psychiatrist and found the psychiatry section particularly helpful for a recent overseas trip.

5-0 out of 5 stars great resource!
I used this book on a medical humanitarian mission to Africa because I didn't want to lug my huge textbooks around. It was the perfect size to fit in my carry on and fanny pack. The material was clear, concise, and up to date.I used it every day of my trip, and would recommend it to physicians or other health care professionals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful Book
I stay part time in rural India and this book is awesome. It addresses issues that I had begun to believe I would never find solid information about. It also gives treatment options that keep Third World Medicine in mind.Very practical.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you take one book...
I recently spent some time in a small, rural clinic in sub-saharan Africa, and this book was by far the most useful tool I had. This is not at all a book on disease theory or etiology - it is purely practical.Concisely, what to suspect, how to diagnosis, and how to treat (e.g., step-by-step instructions on how to Giemsa stain a blood smear). One feature I especially appreciated was how this book doesn't make any assumptions about what diagnostic tools you have available; it explains how to best make decisions both with and without radiology, bacterial cultures, etc.The size of this book of course precludes certain information, the incorporation and discussion of WHO treatment guidelines is incredibly valuable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Have
I had this book among several others while working in rural Uganda. I quickly forgot the other texts and had this stuffed in my back pocket on the wards and going for housecalls. I'm an internist, so when a measles outbreak started I really appreciated the great section on managing this disease. This text contains the essentials for all aspects of medicine in tropical, resource-poor settings as well as great nutritional information. I will bring this book whenever when workng abroad. ... It was delivered on time, as promised, and was a great new copy with fantastic packing materials and was brand new.The book is what it is, a freaking huge reference ER book. All in all a good buy. Thanks!

2-0 out of 5 stars A Distant Third...
If textbooks were judged by their weight, this one would be worth every penny of its purchase price. For better or worse, textbooks are judged by content and this one is lacking. The book itself is really a collection of articles on ER related topics from a variety of authors. The articles are repetitious, contain a lot of extraneous irrelevant information, and often conflict with one another. The antibiotic recommendations are hopelessly out of date.In general, a poorly written, poorly edited work which is a distant in the world of EM texts.Save your money.

After 30 days I still not received the book. The book I do not Know but delivery is not recomendedEmergency Medicine: A Comprehensive Study Guide 6th edition

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent but...
I am very appreciative of all of the work that went into this book.It is superb in many ways.I owned the 4th edition and I see many, many improvements, not just that the book is being updated, but expanded and made better.HOWEVER, I have one relatively big complaint. There may be some who, at appropriate times, will read through this book cover to cover, or chapter by chapter - however, for many, many of us, the book is used as a reference source.HENCE the INDEX is a key component of the book. And here, the book loses a full star (or maybe two) - the index is simply not comprehensive. Two examples - "Ciguatera poisioning" - I looked under "ciguatera" under "fish" under "toxin" and under "food poisoning" - could not find it.I know it is in the book - there is a table that includes it as one of the sources of vomiting, but where is it?[I found the information I needed on the CDC website!!]Another example - "cecal volvulus" - looked under "volvulus" nothing.Under "cecum" - nothing."Bowel obstruction" - nope."Obstruction" nothing."Small bowel obstruction" - finally found a reference in the index, but ultimately cannot find anything on cecal volvulus.I suspect that there MUST be something about volvulus in the Pediatric section on GI emergencies, but it should not be this hard, and I am not looking for a reference solely to children anyway. These are just two examples - I could offer many more. So, my humble suggestion - please work on the Index!!Isn't there a program that can do this relatively automatically - and painlessly?Information is great - quick ready access to that information is even better!Maybe I should just Google it? ;) Also, I have noticed some really lame illustrations - they look like mimeographed copies of copies - really hard to believe, especially since most of the illustrations are very high quality. In general I would like to see more illustrations within the text, particularly radiographic findings. The Color Atlas is kind of a joke, but there are many other sources for this kind of material.

5-0 out of 5 stars Emergency medicine, a comprehensive study guide [6th ed]
Excellent reference work, recognised in NZ as the standard. Found in every ED in this country. Very worthwhile purchasing my own copy, to have to refer to when I want. Contains some very useful material, although have found some thinking I consider to be out of date. I understand 7th ed may be in the works. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Who was the moron who edited this book?
This book is absolutely rife with grammatical and spelling errors. If poor editing (or, more likely in this case, NO editing) bothers you, do NOT buy this book, as you will be too distracted by the numerous errors to concentrate on the content. Here are some of the more blatant examples from chapter 70: Paraneoplastic's Disorders; Endocrine's Disorders; Neurologic's Disorders; Hematologic's Disorders; Dermatologic's Disorders. Please, people -- it's called spell check, or use your half of a brain and hire a real editor.

4-0 out of 5 stars Blueprints-medicine
Blueprints series is overall pretty good. The Medicine book is a quick read that will give the reader a sufficient amount of knowledge and detail regarding that subject matter, however I think that it is appropriate to supplement some of the chapters with Cecil's to get a full understanding of the material. Overall, I recommend this book because it is a quick read and it isnt in the "bullet" style format that many of the books are- but rather in a flowing paragraph form.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good source
I have just finished my internal medicine rotation and found this book quite useful to study from.It is easy to find relevant material and it had everything but the very most recent research, which you won't get in any book anyway.Overall, I use it and plan on using it as a reference when needing to go over internal medicine again.P.S. I also find Harrisons necessary, and the washington manual of course.

5-0 out of 5 stars great book!!
this book is great as a complement to other "heavier" sources, but it really gets you a feel of the topic you choose and its super easy to read! i aced step 2 thanks to this book, first aid and a lot of quetions!(usmleworld and nms 2007).
you wont regret it!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars MUST HAVE FOR IM ROTATION
First I have to say the Blueprints Medicine book is probably the best review book I've ever read.It does not replace the Washington Manual or UPTODATE, but its very helpful to have with you. While it's a bit larger than the UCV or BRS style books, I feel it is worth it.With each chapter averaging 6-15 pages it makes for a very flexible review schedule. If a student were to read it while on a medicine for 4-8 weeks it makes for a great nightly read.At the same time using it as a board review book is another option.Single chapters are easily digested with the help of numerous key point boxes and easy to read charts scattered throughout the chapters.Honestly, I found this book very enjoyable to read. The question section at the end of book nicely completes the package. While Cecil's is a nice reference book to keep on the shelf this book is a must to keep in your backpack and read on those 20 minute breaks on rotations. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Enlightening and Educational
This book has significantly expanded my understanding of food and nutrition.Right away I was able to try out new, delicious recipes using new foods and food combinations from around the world: mung beans, Italian-style carrot salad, seaweed.I can honestly say that this book has enriched my life by teaching me how to prepare foods that make you feel GOOD after you eat them.I've also gained a greater awareness of the negatives in our food chain:pesticides, genetic manipulation -- things I'd heard of but never really understood before. The author, with his background as both a medical doctor and as a yoga nutritionist and Seik, presents a wealth of information with great clarity and a kind voice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Changed my way of eatng!
I love this book and have been recommending it to everyone I know.I thought I ate pretty healthy before I read this book but I learned of so many ways that I can help my family eat even better.Upon completing this book, I bought a juicer and I have been juicing everyday and I feel better than I have felt in years.I love how the author breaks down information into specific chapters for common illnesses and offers explicit instructions for diet, herbs, juices and supplements. The other thing that is great about this book is that the author does not make you feel as though good nutrition is an all or nothing choice. The information is presented in a way that you feel as though any small change you can incorporate is a step in the right direction because let's face it....we all cannot eat perfectly all the time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for health care providers
I purchased this book as a just have to know the many things i need to know working in the field health care an i think it's worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the price!
I love this dictionary..When i started nursing school, people told me that I probably would not need it because everything is online now. However, I still got this dictionary and it has not let me down. I use it very often for Pharmacology and Pathophysiology..alot of medical terminology that may not have accurate meanings online can be found with authentic definitions in this dictionary. There are 100s and 100s of pictures..I would recommend ONLY this medical dictionary to anyone looking for one..There was only ONE time where the dictionary did not have a word I was looking for, but other than it was good.

1-0 out of 5 stars Never recieved item!
The seller never sent me the item.I contacted her 2 times and she never responded. Then I placed a claim with Amazon and while it was processing I contacted her 1 more time telling her it was illegal to take someones money and not send the product. It wasn't until that e-mail she responded to tell me it was lost in the mail. She could have told me that from the begining and refunded my money but she didn't.And it was a school book, (for college) and I was 4 weeks into class before a response.Terrible Customer service!!!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Dated Material.
Informative, yet a bit dated.Having said that, this material should be required reading for all allied health professionals, as it is apparent that we must take measures to counter pharma's self-serving influence in health education.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr Henry Bieler
I boughtthis book to give to a friend. I so want people to know of his wonderful work in healing. I was a patientof Dr. Bieler's for many years. I am now 85 years old. I know the outstanding workthe good doctor did. He cured my sister of ovarian cancer in the 4th stage by diet. A very large promionenthospital gave her 6 months to live. His diets were different for each patient. I think the book explains the human body so well, if one reads it carefully. To know him was to love him.A genius of a man, dedicated to helping mankind.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recomended
This book was written to help everyone improve their health. It tells how vegetables, and broths work better than drugs. You really are what you eat, this book will tell you the truth.Bieler's broth page 205 is a life saver celery, parsley, zucchini, and string beans cooked in water and put in blender.I am very excited about a new book "The Bieler-Burch Method" by Reigh Parker-Burch who was mentored by Dr. Henry Bieler.

4-0 out of 5 stars Satisfaction is Amazon
I read this book before but since it's so old and more than likely out of print I wasn't sure that I'd be able to find it.But Amazon had it.And the copy I got was in very decent shape. So overall it was well worth it and I'm happy I found what I was looking for.

Thanks!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great read!
This author does a great job making a very technical subject interesting and relevant. This book explains a lot of why so many patients seem to benefit from body work, acupuncture and homeopathic interventions. It's left me open-minded to using more of these interventions in my own practice.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for al energy therapists
This book is frankly amazing! I devoured it from begining to end and it's the sort of book you have to read several time to get the full benefit of all the information in it.

It presents a rational, scientific, no-nonsense view of energy medicine outlined in a an unbiased objective way. What really stands out is that all the facts stated are backed up by research papers listed at the end of each chapter so that all claims made can be investigated by checking out those research papers. Also, what amazed me is that the research quoted in the book comes from well known scientists, Nobel Prize winners etc.

Basically, what Oschman is saying is that all the facts are out there and available to anyone who cares to take a look. Anyone reading this book with an open mind will have no doubt that energy is a valid form of healing. An ideal book for teachers looking to present a rational approach to explaining how energy works.

Well done!

4-0 out of 5 stars There is overwhelming scientific evidence for energy medicine
Interesting book on various energy healing modalities. I would have preferred it if the book had some details on how to go about using these techniques, though. The other reviewers have already mentioned what I would have mentioned so there's no need to repeat it again.

If you want scientific evidence that magnetic therapy works, all roads lead to the Albert Roy Davis laboratory. They are solely responsible for the surge of interest in magnetic therapy in the 90's. Experiments with magnetism/electromagnetism were not consistently reproducable until Davis' discovery (that the North and South poles of magnetism are two separate energies with opposite effects). The book, "The Magnetic Effect", by Albert Roy Davis and Walter C. Rawls, Jr., is THE pioneer book on how to use magnetism for healing numerous ailments. There was a study published in the Journal of the National Medical Association, Vol. 82, No.9 (1990), that confirmed the cancer discoveries of Davis and Rawls. "The experiment with human lung carcinoma cells verified the statement by Davis and Rawls that there is an increase in the growth curve of human lung carcinoma cells when exposed to positive polarity magnetic fields." "This experiment verified the statement that different magnetic field polarities produce different effects; while one polarity produced a decrease in the growth curve, the opposite produced an increase (Figure 1)."

Davis and Rawls are trailblazers in the fields of electromagnetic healing, ESP, agriculture, anti-aging, the laying on of hands (read their 3rd book, "The Rainbow in Your Hands"), intelligence research... There is no end to this list because their discoveries can be utilized in all fields of human knowledge. To understand what I'm talking about read their first book, "Magnetism and Its Effects on the Living System". You will most definitely want to hear the interview with Walter Rawls on the blogtalkradio website. To find it just type "Walter C. Rawls, Jr." in the search box.

2-0 out of 5 stars Energy Medicine
The author took too much time explaining science of energy. If you have already read up on energy and the science behind it, this book is repetitive.I prefer Dr Gerber's "Vibrational Medicine".

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent but limited
The author does a superb job in illustrating the advances in scientific knowledge. It is amazing to me to learn how far advanced science is in discovering the workings of the body.It is also amazing to learn that so many "far out" methods of healing are now appoaching mainstream.

I was fortunate to have had a Reiki treatment. The session took about 20 minutes. All that time I could feel the pleasant heat from the therapist's hands although they never touched me.This experience made me more receptive to the author's comments, as there are many references to the effectiveness of hands on therapy.

I also liked the short chapters on each issue where the subject matter was covered in detail with explanatory diagrams.

My only concern, and why four instead of five stars, is that I would think that some people would have difficulty not only in accepting his presentations but also the amount of detail involved. This book is not for you if you read it with a prejudgment.Again, if it were not for my Reiki experience, I would have had some difficulty.

In summary, I thoroughly enjoyed the book and the author's style.I hope that you do also. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Too Superficial
I purchased this book because other reviews had suggested that the author understood the relationship between food and health. Unfortunately, the information in the book is too superficial to be really informative.

The author writes with exclamation marks rather than science.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great recipes
I am not one for recipe books, but this one is interesting. If you have an interest in natural health and want to eat better, but don't have a lot of time to prepare food, you will enjoy this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A recipe book to change your life
If you ever wondered what to do to preserve your health and continued well being this is the book for you.The recipes are not complicated and the explanations of the health benefits, nutrient balanced food combinations and background research in this booksshould convince you that your health is worth it.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Useful Read with Interesting Recipes
I found this book through a link from Dr. Li's work on Angiogenesis. Even though not a clinician, reading it showed a correlation between the two's approaches.

The list of recommended ingredients for one's pantry includes some that may be challenging to find.

The book for a non-clinician seems a bit of a challenge to comprehend, but I'm not sure you need to understand all of the nitty gritty to gain value from reading it. But the real benefit would come from a disciplined commitment to use Dr. LaPuma's eight-week regimen as a behavior changing strategy. I don't see how picking and choosing specific ideas to embrace will have much benefit in the long run.

Having said that, there are a number of recipes that look really interesting. We're looking forward to experimenting with them when we're in a position to do so. Many of his suggestions for preparing meals quickly using off-the-shelf products are also attractive.

If you subscribe to the theory that any improvement is an improvement, I believe it would be possible to get value from a casual study of Dr. LaPuma's approach. Nevertheless, I suspect that real value will come a full blown immersion into it. It's worth checking out.

5-0 out of 5 stars what you eat can make you sick or make you well
This is not the typical diet book. There is a lot of space devoted to using food to help with health problems. I found the one relating to my condition to be very helpful and gave me ideas to use in the future. ... Read more

From a JAMA Review
"This book was a genuine treat to review. The more than 1000 pages are chock full of figures and photographs illustrating virtually every illness seen by a family physician or other specialist. But this book, edited by 4 family physicians and an obstetrician-gynecologist, is much more than simply a pictorial atlas. Various chapters are written by family physicians as well as specialists.
"The Color Atlas of Family Medicine is a comprehensive visual guide to daily patient care. It will be valuable to medical students, residents, and all practicing physicians. I recommend that it be included in the library of every family medicine residency program. It is an excellent reference and it will be enjoyed by anyone who reads the patient stories or anyone who just wants to look at the figures and photographs. I think this book is a classic example of why the Internet will try but never take the place of a well-written hardbound textbook."

5 STAR DOODY'S REVIEW!
"This is what a modern textbook should be. It is concise yet comprehensive in the breadth of topics and, as the title suggests, robust with color photographs of extraordinarily good quality.
"The editors state clearly in the preface that family physicians see a wide variety of conditions that lend themselves to an atlas such as this, and they support the pictures with evidence-based information, which makes this book so worthwhile and valuable. The editors and contributors balance the images and text, in an extremely useful way.
"Although the title puts the focus on family physicians, the book clearly is a tremendous resource for all, including internal medicine practitioners, students, and those in every specialty who may only rarely encounter some of these conditions. The list of contributors is extensive and well balanced, bringing together experts from all specialties of medicine.
"By far, this is one of the best, most useful textbooks I have seen in a very long time. It is a must for the library of every primary care physician."

3-0 out of 5 stars Needs a better index
This book is easy and interesting to read, but not much help in times of crisis. My daughter was throwing up the other night, and even though I have a fairly impressive collection of herbs and homeopathics, I couldn't find the info in the book that I needed for a remedy for her. It's a valuable book in my library for my study on the subject but certainly not a "go-to" book when you need a quick reference.I wouldn't recommend this book as a starter book for a study of homeopathy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice
This is a good book to have. I got this book a fortnight back only. I am referring it to treat my 6 months old daughter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Care of your children/grandchildren
EXCELLENT book/guide for taking care-homeopathic care-of children. A homeopathic doctor wrote it in simple, easy reading. I have been using it, with my daughters permission, for my 2 yr old grandson and 4 month old granddaughter and they are the healthiest children.

They only go to the pediatrician for their wellness checkups...otherwise they are never there; whereas my son's partner won't use homeopathic remedies because she does want to "drug" her kids, and they are at their doctor at least once a week, sometimes more - mostly for colds and infections. In their short life (they're twins, 2 yrs) they have had more drugs than even some adults!

THIS BOOK IS A MUST for every family seeking a gentler medicine to give their kid's when they do get ill.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best homeopathic guide written!
This is a very good guide for all the parents! It is easy to use due to the alphabetical list of sicnesses and symptoms and has clear descriptions of remedies that could be used to treat the symptoms. In the beginning of the book it simply describes the basics about homeopathy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding resource
    I have been using homeopathy since 1993 with great success, due in large part to this book.It is well organized and very user friendly.I would highly recommend this book to anyone just starting out, or curious about homeopathy.I loaned mine to a friend recently and I miss it more than I expected!I also own "The Complete Homeopathy Handbook: Safe and Effective Ways to Treat Fevers, Coughs, Colds and Sore Throats, Childhood Ailments, Food Poisoning, Flu, and a Wide Range of Everyday Complaints" and I think it is a nice complement, but I find that I use Dana Ullman's book with greater regularity.Actually, I've used it so often that I've memorized much of it and now I pull it off the shelf to "double check" myself. ...     I had to update my review after I finished reading all of the sections. I think I was being unfair to give this book 4 stars! The quality of questions are a reflection of the considerable experience of the author.they are very helpful both for exam purposes and the daily clinical practice.you will find a lot of interesting questions in this book that will have a positive impact on your practice.Initially I thought the question on MKSAP were better but I think this book leaves you with a lot more to take home.And it's so cheap!     I can and I do recommend this text to my/our student-candidates for both our United States Medical Licensure Examination Step Three {U.S.M.L.E. III} and my/our student-candidates for our both Certification and Re-Certification by our American Board of Internal Medicine {A.B.I.M.}
With humility, new to me, although I serve as a Diplomate of our American Board of Internal Medicine and as an Advanced Cardiac Life Support {A.C.L.S.} Instructor included the following:
    · That the maximum incubation period for rabies may well be seven {7} years.
    · That there may well be as many as 385,000 needle sticks annually in our healthcare workers
    · That ¾ {75%} of women with Ovarian Cancer may well present with advanced disease
    · That a 35-year-old Assistant District Attorney {A.D.A.} with her painful sore throat, stridor, difficulty swallowing without any visible pharyngeal exudates may well reasonably need immediate emergent in-hospital, in-patient laryngoscopy to confirm her diagnosis of her acute Adult Epiglottitis {Adult Croup}
Further, our candidates for certification by our American Board of Addiction Medicine and our American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology may well be enlightened {as I humbly was enlightened) to learn that a 35-year-old Associate Professor of Dental/Oral Surgery {husband/father/community leader} presenting with his megaloblastic macrocytic B12 Deficiency Anemia associated with his Spinal Cord abnormalities {combined system disease} all due to his purposefully and deliberately {albeit surreptitiously} inhaling his own office Nitrous Oxide (N2O "Laughing Gas") that rapidly destroys his Vitamin B12 {cyanocobalamine} making it reasonably impractical and probably well nigh impossible for him to hold his surgical instruments; such that he can not longer reasonably perform his job of performing his Dental/Oral Surgical Procedures!
-------------Sir William Osler (1849 - 1919} endorsed, "Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful."Might we inquire, "How without our Mayo Medical Internal Medicine Review 9th Edition: 2010 will we be truly, humbly, dedicated lifelong students of our Art-and-Science of our Clinical Practice-of-Medicine?"
-----Bravo Mayo Clinic Internal Medicine Board Review 9th Edition 2010.

3-0 out of 5 stars Current and complete, but hard to read!
in my opinion the problem with this review is not its content (which is very good actually), but its textbook-like structure. also, what I really hate in "Mayo Review" are redundant "summaries" after almost every paragraph (NOT chapter!) which actually aren't summaries at all but just shortened repetitions of each paragraph's content. I guess these "summaries" are making almost 1/4 of the book - a complete waste of the paper. well, they may be useful for someone with a serious short-term memory problem but reading the same thing twice again and again almost drove me crazy, so I relinquished my attempts to do so and was reading only the main text; the main text is presented as an up-to-date evidence-based information essential for IM boards but it's difficult to read. I prefer review books in an outline format, when every sentence begins with a new line - like in "First aid for Internal Medicine Boards" and "Johns Hopkins Internal Medicine Board Review" - they are easier to read, but not as complete and in depth as "Mayo Review". so, for the next edition my suggestion for the editor is to remove those "summaries", which are in the bullet points and to transform the main text to this format instead (i.e. to begin every sentence with a new line).
this book may also be used for the USMLE step 2 CK / step 3 if you aim at high score; you can use it instead of - Mayo Clinic Internal Medicine Concise Textbook - this "textbook"is almost verbatim reprint of the 7th edition (2006) of "Mayo Review", just without MCQs (I wonder why they think you don't need them for the USMLE step 2 CK / step 3) and already a little bit outdated for now. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Book
Perfect book.Clinical vignette with explanations of correct answer and why the other choices are wrong. There are also review questions for each topic.Highly recommend. This is just about all I used during clinicals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Your guide to doing well on rotation
This book covers the essentials of the all the bread-and-butter emergency medicine cases in a manner perfect for easy learning.Don't waste time with other books, this book has everything a medical student could want for his/her rotation.Cases are short enough to read a few per night and are full of all the information to understand how to approach, work-up, and manage a EM patient.Almost invariably, I would be pimped on the exact information that was covered in the cases. The patients I saw were virtually identical to those in the cases. This series is wonderful for the medical student, especially the 3rd year.

Delivered fast, packed well, book in wonderful condition, very helpful for every day acute illnesses.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great little book
I am just starting out in homeopathy, so take this into account.I love this book, it has charts in it that have quick reference that lists the remedy, specific indications, general symptoms, worse from and better from categories. It is perfect for me as a beginner!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of good remedies
This book had many remedies that are good to have on hand. Also, had a brief explanation of what Homeopathy is to better understand. Great book for a beginner.

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful and comforting
This is the first book I bought on homeopathic medicine when I first began using it more than twelve years ago.I like the way it is written - it almost feels as though you have a kindly physician sitting across from you. That being said, my one complaint with this book is the repetories/remedies pages that are placed at the end of each chapter.I have never used these and find them a bit confusing.

If you do buy this book (and I encourage you to - it's well worth the investment) I would really encourage you to read the book through. Then you will be able to more easily find the remedies that apply to you in times of emergency.I now have several books on homeopathy on my shelves, and this is always the first one I turn to when I or a family member are sick.

Well worth the investment. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lucid Explanation of Pulmonary Medicine
I found the book enjoyable, even though I have been a practicing physician for more than 25 years and have been teaching internal medicine for almost 20 years. Before my purchase, I wanted a book that reviewed key principles of pulmonary diorders, which I could use as framework to organize disparate pulmonary diseases. The book meets that objective.

Aimed at medical students, it is cearly written, making comprehension easy. It emphasizes principles, allowing the reader to build his or her knowledge on a solid foundation. I found it easy to use the principles to classify various pulmonary diseases, making them easy to understand and recall. The notes or summaries at the margins afford both a quick preview and review of the salient points in each chapter.

I believe the book can be enhanced by adding three or four clinical cases at
the end of each chapter to give the reader an opportunity to apply his or her knowledge.

5-0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal book
I used this book for my second year pulmonary pathophysiology course and I have not been able to find another text written as well. The chapters are organized into easy to understand chapters that are not too long but the details in the text are definitely more than sufficient. I love the side notes in the margins of the text as little reminders of what is important and the discussions about PFTs in the end and the intro normal physiology allowed me to get an amazing grasp of the material.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good text
It arrived qiuck in the time of X'mas season! Since Canada is so close to US, I think it is possible to charge the same amount for delivery. This book is a brank new one. The text content is fit for me to get a common idea of what the pulmonary diseases are.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the best pulmonary medicine book
I have red many books of pulmonary medicine, but this book is different. physiopathologic mecanisms and examples are perfect. I advice this book all pulmonologist and internist

5-0 out of 5 stars very good
well written and thorough, more comprehensive than the typical med student text. Still referring back to it at the end of my third year. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars ok review
This review book was ok for reviewing some of the basics of the boards quickly and probably has most of what you need for the written boards.

However, there are quite a few tables missing information from the Kindle version that I bought to read on my ipod touch such as toxicology tables. Given the price charged for the e-version, this is not acceptable. Unless it is fixed, would not recommend buying the electronic version.

3-0 out of 5 stars I had high hopes...
This book is ok. At 900 pages, it is too big and superficial to fit any niche on the bookshelf for really useful books. I've gone back to reading the new Rosen's, EB Medicine articles and lots of practice questions. After finding some mistakes and important topics covered too lightly, it hasn't left my bottom shelf.

    3-0 out of 5 stars Eh...not great
The other reviewer who mentioned this book simply regurgitating all of the common things you have already read about common emergency medicine problems was correct. It seems to rely more on "what everyone says" rather than pulling in any of the latest literature. This would perhaps be a good book for a medical student doing an emergency medicine clerkship as a quick reference about various topics. As an emergency medicine resident I find it too elementary, and reading the sections leaves me wanting more information even though I understand this is by its nature supposed to be a review book.I find that I rarely pull this off the shelf.

4-0 out of 5 stars Quick & Dirty Review for ABEM recert exam
For emergency physicians who desire a single, quick review for the ABEM board certification exam.930 pages of text - which take approximately 20 to 30 hours to review.

Extremely terse, well organized and easy to digest.A clinical vignette Q&A begins most sections.Decent images / radiographs.High yield pearls are highlighted in the margins.Surprisingly up to date - the classic answers are provided with newer evidence-based info in parenthesis.

Not for those who require a more in depth review, but for practicing EPs who only need a brush up on Leptospirosis, Foxglove, and the like, First Aid for the EM Boards is a reasonable approach.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not up to the level
I was super excited to get this book i even got it as a preorder
the book is fairly huge = almost 1000 pages , n of the biggest First aids in my library, however; the content is not high yield at all, just regurgitation of what you find on First Aid for Internal Med boards with snap shots from other first aids making a huge but useless ER Review

What is unique about the First Aid series is or I'd better say WAS concise rapid review with HY tips, now this is lost in their renewed editions.

    for this book:
the content is fair with only the cardiovascular, environmental chapters and the legal issues chapter being above average
OBGYN ER, Pedia, Trauma and infectious = Below average , seriously

Overall acceptable but would not recommend it, since its a crossover between review and concise text but lacking the in depth of a text :)
