GUAGUA PICHINCHA 0.171'S, 78.598'W summit elev. 4,784 m (www.hcjb.org/deutsch.images/photos/guagua_pilz.jpg) Guagua Pichincha, or baby-Pichincha, is located just west of Quito, the capital city of Ecuador. (www.worldteach.org/photoalbum/Ecuador/99.ec.quito,view,jpg) (www.disasterrelief.org/Disasters/010516bulge/) Often, Composite volcanoes are so quiet between eruptions, that they seem to be extinct. Guagua has what is known as a spatter cone- "a low, steep-sided mound or cone of small pyroclastic fragments built up on a fissure or around a volcanic vent." (Academic Press Dictionary of Science and Technology) When uncooled fragments of erupting lava (called spatter) reach the ground, they bond to the underlying lava fragments, which are still hot, thus forming a low, steep-sided hill or mound of welded lava fragments. Spatter cones can also be called Hornitos, Driblet cones, Blowing cones, Lava cones, and Agglutinate cones. Pichincha stands at the end of a 25 km long volcanic complex. It's horeshoe-shaped summit crater is 2 km in diameter and 600 m deep. Explosive central vent eruptions during the late-Pleistocene and holocene consisted of pyroclastic flows and periods of lava dome growth and destruction. The majority of Pichincha's numerous eruptions since the spanish colonial era have been minor. The latest period of activity began with phreatic explosions in 1998, following approximately 339 years of dormancy. Since the first magmatic eruptions of October 1999, "intermittent" eruptions of "varying" scale have covered Quito with ash.

The New Adventures of Superman debuted on the American network CBS on September 10, 1966. In the second season, the show was renamed The Superman-Aquaman Hour of Adventure adding adventures with other DC Comics heroes. In 1968, the show format again changed becoming The Batman-Superman Hour which ran until September 6, 1969 when the show was cancelled partly from protests by Action For Children's Television because of violent content. In the first season, the show had two 6 minute Superman cartoons bracketing a Superboy cartoon. Superman comics editor Mort Weisinger served as story editor, while several Superman comics writer also scripted some of the cartoons. The first season had 18 half-hours. The second and third seasons each had eight more made. In the third season ( The Batman/Superman Hour ), the artwork changed to imitate Superman artist Curt Swan's style, and the Superman episodes now were 2-part Superman adventures.
