Veterans Day 2001 veterans day 2001. Related Resources. Unfortunately, veterans day takeson a much more poignant significance this year for all of us. http://k-6educators.about.com/library/weekly/aa110101a.htm
Extractions: Unfortunately, Veterans Day takes on a much more poignant significance this year for all of us. As I prepared to write this piece, I reviewed my 1999 article about Veterans Day in which I called armed conflict a "remote possibility in our near future." I wish that statement would have been more accurate. This year, it's so important to teach our students that Veterans Day means more than just a day off from school. Patriotism is wide-spread at this moment in American history, so consider taking some time to give this sentiment even deeper meaning in your classroom. Here are a few ideas for introducing Veterans Day in the elementary school classroom: Ask the students what they think Veteran's Day is for. Why is it important? What does the word 'veteran' mean?

"Birthday Express offers a wonderful and wide variety of party favors, and I have always been very pleased with the product quality and quick delivery time." - Rita H. Decorating Tips In the United States, Veterans' Day is a federal holiday celebrated on November 11. To many, it is just another day off from school or work. But to veterans - men and women who have served our country in the armed forces - the day has a much deeper meaning. To them, it symbolizes the commitment they made to our country while serving in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, or Coast Guard. Since many veterans fought in wars for the United States, Veterans' Day is a reminder to us that these people risked their lives in order to ensure peace for our nation. Veterans' Day was originally called Armistice Day to commemorate the end of World War I, when Germany surrendered at 11 o'clock on November 11, 1918. For four years, Europe had been at war, and over 14 million people had lost their lives when it finally came to an end. Since the United States had joined the fight to end World War I, many Americans had fought and died for the cause as well.

Extractions: On Monday, November 11, our PTA hosted its third annual Veterans Day assemblies in honor of our nation's veterans. The assemblies were held at Chesak Elementary at 10:00 AM and at Martin Elementary at 2:00 PM. We had asked for families to participate by writing the names of any Armed Forces Veterans (living or deceased) who are special to them on a sheet that was sent home in students' backpacks. Our students produced 1500 names. Each veteran's name was placed on a ribbon, which was used to create two Appreciation Wreaths. The wreaths were presented to attending veterans at the assemblies as a thank-you from our school community. We extended a very special invitation to our families' veterans to attend either one or both of the assemblies in their honor. We would like to recognize and thank the following veterans for attending: Chuck Blain - Air Force
