Excerpt: Fongafale (also spelled Fogale or Fagafale) is the largest of Funafuti's islets in Tuvalu. It's a long snake-like sliver of land, 12 kilometres long and between 10 and 400 metres wide, with the South Pacific Ocean on the east and the protected lagoon on the west. The airstrip runs from northeast to southwest on the widest part of the island with the village and administrative centre of Vaiaku on the lagoon side. It contains the Tengako peninsula. Fongafale is located at (-8.516667, 179.2). (.) There are four neighbourhoods (officially villages, which appear as one contiguous urban area): Vaiaku is the most important, most southern and most western neighbourhood. The official buildings are here. There are seven small ponds. On the island there are government offices, Vaiaku Lagi Hotel (the only hotel of the country, there are also a few guesthouses), telecommunication ce...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=1005919 ... Excerpt: Tuvalu consists of nine separate islands, six of which are atolls. The three remaining islands are actually atolls, too, but they have a completely closed rim of dry land, with a lagoon that has no connection to the open sea or that may be drying up. Since an atoll typically consists of several islets, there is a total of more than 124 islands and islets. The nine units correspond to the nine local government districts. The smallest island, Niulakita, was uninhabited until it was resettled by people from Niutao in 1949. Until recently, Niulakita was therefore not considered a separate local government district but administratively a part of Niutao. At least 11 islands are inhabited, expanded over the biggest isles of the nine atolls, plu...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=1012189 ... Read more

Product Description
Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "Tuvalu," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have Tuvalu in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with Tuvalu when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name Tuvalu, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain. ... Read more

Its nearest neighbours are Kiribati, Samoa and Fiji. It comprises four reef islands and five true atolls. In terms of physical land size, at just 26 square kilometres (10 sq mi) Tuvalu is the fourth smallest country in the world, larger only than the Vatican City at 0.44 km2 (0.17 sq mi), Monaco at 1.95 km2 (0.75 sq mi) and Nauru at 21 km2 (8.1 sq mi). ...
