Product Description

Is socialism dead since the fall of the Soviet Union? What is the way forward for the Left? Raby argues that Cuba and above all Venezuela provide inspiration for anti-globalisation and anti-capitalist movements across the world. Another World Is Possible, but only through an effective political strategy to win power on a popular and democratic basis. Raby argues passionately that the way forward for progressives is not the dogmatic formulae of the Old Left, nor in the spontaneous autonomism of John Holloway or Tony Negri. Instead, it is to be found in new, broad and flexible popular movements with bold and determined leadership. Examining the relationship of key leaders to their people, including Hugo Chávez and the Sandinistas in Nicaragua, Raby shows that it is more necessary than ever to take power, peacefully where possible, but in all cases with the strength that comes from popular unity backed by force where necessary. In this way it is possible to build democratic power, which may or may not be socialist depending on one’s definition, but which represent the real anti-capitalist alternative for the twenty-first century.

This is the poet and playwright Adrian Mitchell's version of Gogol's classic satire on human vanity with its story of a penniless nobody from Moscow who is mistaken for a government inspector by the corrupt and self-seeking officials of a small town in Tsarist Russia.

4-0 out of 5 stars A classic Satire
InGogol's time in Russia corruption was found in every arm of the government. Petty bureaucrats often pocketed money that was intended for public works. The play exposes backwater greed and corruption by showinghow thoroughly ingrained bribery and lobbying are in to the culture ofsmalltime government officials.

The plot of the play is quite ingenious.Khlestakov, a clerk of some sort, but on the whole an entirely unimportantperson in the government, is in town at the tavern. He's on the verge ofgetting kicked out since he's rung up a huge bill. Just when he's thinksall's lost the Lord provost shows up, pays his bill and start treating himlike he's the cat's pajamas. Slowly Khlestakov realizes that the townspeople think he's an all important Government Inspector and are desperateto bribe wine and dine him so he gives a good report to Petersburg.

Thisplay is a critical social statement about corruption told though thehumorous device of a farce. By making light of the faults of our leaders wemay be able to raise awareness of the problem of corruption and effectmeasures that will lead to change. ... Read more

Product Description

Delving into a world where the living dead really do walk the earth, this exploration turns the myth of zombies into a frightening—and hilarious—reality. Whether in an alternate universe or 100 years into the future, this entertaining examination predicts that the invasion of the undead will indeed happen, putting everyone at risk of either knowing a zombie or becoming one. Instead of creating an apartheid society of living and undead, this far-out study suggests that the future human race integrate themselves with zombies, simply accepting the inevitable loss of life in the long run. Revealing a unique take on zombie acculturation, this consideration introduces zombie magazines, zombie yoga poses, and even recipes for brain casserole—including the stealthiest ways to get to that elusive human cranial meat. Concluding with a Zombie IQ test to determine one’s future as a member of the undead and an extensive dictionary of words defined in a zombie context, this is an uproarious look at what life would be like in a zombie’s shoes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great little book
A quick run on the history along with pictures of each model.Great book for it's intention.

5-0 out of 5 stars the little book of Aston Martin
This book is great! And a pleasant surprise. As the author states in the beginning, it is a "potted history" of Aston Martin. And it does take you on a chronological tour of Aston's journey, with short articles on the important cars. But it really has some interesting facts and little known items about Aston Martin you might not find elsewhere.

It could have benefitted from a more detailed proofreading, as there are a few typos. And the photo on page 96 is of the later V12 DB7 Vantage, not the V8 Vantage described. But this really didn't detract from my enjoyment. Highly recommended. ... Read more

Individual financial institutions can differ in how they structure their retail and business areas. Some include sole traders, partnerships and even small to medium business enterprises in their retail operations, and restrict corporate operations to large companies above a certain size. Many financial institutions also segment their corporate customer base, with larger businesses being dealt with by specialist relationship managers, and these types of segmentation policies are addressed and discussed.
