The Internet can be used in creating more effective lesson plans in four basic ways. 1. Effective Lesson Plans Traditional lessons can be enhanced using the Internet. The chart that follows gives suggestions of some of the ways that traditional lessons can be enhanced by using the Internet. Aim [Your lesson aim would go here.] Objective [Your objective would go here.] Do Now At the beginning of a class period, one or more students can be assigned to a brief activity where they can "look up" information that will be used later during the period. Motivation The teacher might use interesting facts from the Internet to begin a discussion at the beginning of the period.

The standards provide a framework for infusing technology into social studies but the Internet has to be woven into curriculum, teaching strategies, and materials within teacher education. In the Social Studies in the Elementary School course, the students are required to submit weekly entries to an online reflective journal, http://www.coe.missouri.edu/~esse/reflective.html The purpose of the journal was for the students to reflect on social studies education or the activities of the course. Each week the student wrote a response to four open ended statements: (1) What I learned......, (2) What I would like to learn....., (3) Goals for the future ............, and (4) Comments/suggestions. The journals were analyzed to determine how preservice teacher education students used the Internet for reflection. To reflect on teaching, the students used technology to:
