The Literary and Linguistic Computing Centre was established in the University of Cambridge in 1964. The work of the Centre was concentrated on the production of word-indexed, concordances and lexico-graphical materials in several languages for scholars with literary and philological interests. The present volume contains a complete word-index, a ranking list of frequencies, a reverse index and a rhyming index to both Bespiegelingen van Godt and Godtsdienst and Lucifer by Joost van den Vondel (1587-1679), the Dutch poet and dramatist. Bespiegelingen, a long verse work (66531 words), contains a rationale of the doctrine underlying many of Vondel's best-known dramatic works. Because of this, and due to its length and the monumental development of its argument it has been comparatively little studied, Bespiegelingen presented ideal material for analysis by computer. A Jolly Good Read
It is not often that a book by an indexer about indexers and indexes can be described as fun. Hazel Bell's meticulously researched book is fun to read. Bell was editor of the British journal, The Indexer, for over 18 years. In this volume she has collected gems -- quotes about indexes, quotes from indexes, indexers that appear in fiction as characters, and much more. And, oh yes! The book includes an index.

Unique and appealing
No bibliophile will want to resist this instructive, entertaining and amusing anthology, which reveals indexes as whimsical (Lewis Carroll), enticing (Pepys), hilarious (Julian Barnes), or playful (Virginia Woolf). Indexers portrayed in fiction are noted to be everything from drunk (in Trollope) to meticulous (Sherlock Holmes) to romantic (in Barbara Pym). Useful Rhetoric Handbook and Grammar Review.
I have a copy of the 1950 edition of Perrin's Guide (it was my mom's college textbook) and find it very useful. It is well-organized and gives good advice on how to write effective sentences and coherent paragraphs. It also discusses how to do research and take notes and write term papers.
