STRATEGIC AND OPERATIONAL PLANNING IN FAMILY BUSINESSES formal internal control systems, particularly in the human resources area, compared ArthurAndersen Center for family Business, 711 lousiana, Suite 1300 http://www.sbaer.uca.edu/Research/1999/ICSB/99ics048.htm
Extractions: Abstract Family business researchers have seldom undertaken studies in which family firms are contrasted with non-family enterprises, nor does it appear that there have been attempts to determine whether these two categorisations of business differ in strategic and operational planning behavior. This study involved a national cross-sectional survey of family ( n =240) and non-family enterprises ( n Introduction Thus, taking an agency theory perspective based on assumptions that differences in ownership and control of firms have an effect on the way they are run, this study examines type and extent of strategic and operational planning undertaken by family and non-family businesses; and assesses extent to which firm specific characteristics (e.g., ownership structure, size, age of firm) are related to strategic and operational planning. Theoretical Rationale Reve (1990) argued that internal strategy is a neglected area of strategic management research. He argued that "what comes closest to a common theoretical understanding of strategy is the positioning model advanced by Michael Porter ... [This] model has much to say about how firms adopt competitive forces, but it has little to say about the firm and management of the firm" (p.133). The role of internal strategy is to ensure that an enterprise is organized, effective, and efficient. This view implies that internally fit enterprises are far more able to construct and implement both internal and external competitive strategies than those that are not.

Extractions: Introduction The State of Louisiana at the State-level has approximately $9.34 billion of the taxpayer's money it is not using, i. e. potential surpluses equal to for every man, women and child in Louisiana or for a family of 4. This does not include all the additional potential surpluses that exist in the school districts, cities, or counties in Louisiana. The Louisiana review is shown in Exhibit A below in this report. Simultaneous Budget Deficits/Shortfalls and Financial Surpluses This is the most deceiving topic that governments, politicians, and the news media have conveyed to the public about governmental financial matters. In realty, a government can simultaneously have a budget shortfall and a financial surplus of the taxpayers' money. The problem can be broken down into three areas: 1. The budget only covers a small portion of the State's financial condition. There are a group of funds not part of the budget process. The complete list of funds and budgetary requirements are found in the
Health Care Delivery: Rural Vs. Urban Communities MD (913) 5881902; lousiana State Univ of recent legislation, increasing need anddecreasing resources. system infrastructures by linking family-oriented primary http://www.amsa.org/programs/gpit/ruralurban.cfm
Extractions: Health Care Delivery: Rural vs. Urban Communities More than 20 million people in the United States live in areas that have a shortage of physicians to meet their basic health care needs. This lack of access to quality health care for many people, particularly those living in rural and urban underserved communities, is a serious health care problem. Health care delivery in rural and urban communities poses many unique challenges and students must be aware of these challenges when studying and practicing medicine. A common problem faced by both rural and urban communities is the lack of physicians practicing in these communities. In response to the physician shortage, medical schools have adopted a selective medical school admission policy to enhance a primary care choice in underserved communities. Although some students initially recruited do eventually practice in underserved communities, many do not. While medical schools recruit physicians in-training for underserved areas, they do not have a curriculum that supports this mission. In addition, medical students are discouraged in both subtle and overt ways from entering the primary care specialties that serve underserved areas.
