This program continues to build upon the more than 179,000 acres of wetlands and recharge areas already acquired by the District since it began its land acquisition efforts in 1984. At present, some 2.5 percent of the District's total land area of 7,168,000 acres is protected explicitly for water resource purposes by lands the District has acquired. If your property is included in any of our acquisition areas or maps and you do not wish to sell your land to the District, the Florida Statutes require us to remove your property from the acquisition plan at the earliest opportunity. The District will maintain a list of such requests and annually adjust its acquisition plan accordingly.

County Of SB : Energy Division development of beaches and coastal recreational areas along along a narrow shelf ofland between the Boating (sailing, kayaking, canoeing and paddle boating) u http://www.countyofsb.org/energy/policies/CEQAthresholds/physSettingRecreation.a
Extractions: You Are Here: County Home Energy Home CEQA Thresholds Advanced Search ... Website Page Links Coastal Recreation Santa Barbara County contains 110 miles of coastline. The beaches and recreational areas located along this coastline offer a variety of coastal outdoor activities to Santa Barbara County residents and tourists. Recreational activities include: Beach Combing Beach Volleyball Biking Bird- and Whale-watching Camping and Off-Road Vehicle Use Equestrian Activities General Beach Use (including various beach games) Hang-Gliding (from coastal bluff areas) Hiking Jogging Photography Picnicking Sightseeing Sunbathing Walking Some of these activities are limited to locations next to the ocean; meanwhile, others are enhanced when conducted in close proximity to the ocean, either on the beach or onshore near the beach, where the oceans influence or physical qualities contributes to ones experience. The mild coastal climate allows these activities to be enjoyed year-round. Beaches and recreational areas having beach access along the Countys coastline are identified in Appendix A. Northern Santa Barbara Countys development of coastal recreational sites is constrained because Vandenberg Air Force Base occupies much of the Countys northern coastline. Consequently, northern Santa Barbara County has developed more of an inland orientation with fewer beach access points and coastal recreational parks for residents and tourists to enjoy than the southern portion of the County. This land-use pattern heightens the importance of the few beach accesses that are available. Several beach segments have been closed recently to protect the Western snowy plover and its nesting habitat, a federally listed threatened species. Such closures place further constraints on public access to beaches along the Countys western coast.

Investigate the need for and feasibility of dredging to make possible these activities. Provide for the eventual development by a public agency in the future of piers along the alignment of Gilman Street extension for public viewing and fishing. A lot has changed since 1986, but the sense of this element of the plan - that non-motorized small craft activity and facilities to support them should be encouraged in the North Sailing Basin - has never been modified.
