In addition, the community's youth are involved in the commemoration of important holidays such as Memorial Day Veterans Day and Independence Day. Town officials are very active in the public schools. Surfside takes a leadership role in working for the best possible educational facilities, learning conditions, and academic opportunities for all of the area's children. Surfside initiated and organized the Surf-Bal-Bay After School Sports and Recreation Program, which has become a model for other schools and communities. The program is funded by the Town of Surfside, the Village of Bal Harbour, and the Town of Bay Harbor Islands. The benefits of sports, the arts, recreational activities, and character building are combined in this exceptional partnership between the municipalities and the school system.
