It measures how much your blood glucose increases over a period of two or three hours after a meal. The most complete listing is in a new book by Professor Jennie Brand-Miller, The G.I. Factor, which was published in Australia and subsequently in the U.K. and in the U.S. as The Glucose Revolution . With her authorization, I have condensed this information into listings for about 300 foods. This includes all of the different foods for which glycemic indexes have been published and listed in The G.I. Factor.

Frequently Asked Questions Also of interest: Tracing Family History-Suggestions for Beginners Native American Research Research FAQs African American Research Many African Americans living in the western hemisphere can trace their ancestors to the slaves who were transported to the Americas by the Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, French, British, and Americans. The majority of these slaves came from northwest Africas costal lowlands, Congo basin, and western plateau. These areas include the modern states of Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, Burkina Faso, the Congo, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. African Americans have a long association with Kentucky (Lucas and Wright's History of Blacks in Kentucky ). In 1751 a black servant in the company of Christopher Gist came into the territory along the Ohio River. A slave guided Daniel Boone across the Blue Ridge Mountains in 1760. In the earliest attempts at settlement, African Americans accompanied whites onto the Kentucky frontier. Both blacks and whites faced the dangers and hardships of settling a new land. Pompey, a slave who lived with the Indians, served as translator between the Shawnee chief, Blackfish, and Daniel Boone. Another African American of the Kentucky frontier was Monk Estill, a slave whose bravery during Indian attacks on Estill's Station earned him his freedom. He later aided the Kentucky settlers by manufacturing gunpowder for Fort Boonesborough and Estill's Station.
